November 7th, 2017 is my big day!!! Anyone have to do a two week CLEAR LIQUID PRE-OP DIET?!?!?!. Surgical office says I can't even mix my protein with milk. Any recommendations for protein that can be dissolved in juice or water or broth?

Most protein powders -can- be mixed in water, but that wouldn't make them a clear liquid. The only clear protein shake I know of is Isopure. And I think Premier Protein has a clear variety now? Hopefully your surgeon's office has recommendations - considering they're the ones requiring the diet!

I have another pre-op with them. I will certainly ask. I don't think it ever sunk in that the pre-op liquid diet would be clears... wow. I think I've heard about isopure. I'll look into that one. Thank you!

Congrats to you as well! Right?!?! My surgeon is known to be very strict, but two weeks clear liquid will be torture. Really going to have to get my mind right.

I had a 2 week clear liquid pre-op diet, and another 1 week post-op, so 21 days total. HOWEVER, I was allowed to have either premade protein shakes or make my own with skim milk. Weird that they won't even allow that...that's a new one on me! Other than the shakes, I was only allowed water, black coffee or tea, SF non-carbonated drinks, SF jello, SF popsicles, and broth.

I was wondering about the pre-mixed because the list doesn't actually exclude them. I have a pre-op on 10-20. I will confirm.

That's a long time on liquid. How did you do with that?

I won't lie, it was hard, especially the first few days. But if you really want this surgery to work, then you buckle down and you just do it. Beef broth was the one thing that really kept me going and helped with everything else being so sweet. I stirred unflavored protein powder into it many times instead of having a sweet shake.

All of the premixed shakes are made with milk or milk products, so I would have to guess if they said you couldn't make your own with milk, then you can't have the premixed ones with milk either.

Half the battle and over half the success of any WLS is changing your mindset and battling old habits and head hunger. Just remind yourself it's 3 weeks out a lifetime...nothing in the great scheme of things.

Exactly. They referred to it as a liver shrinking diet. They said it helps the surgeon navigate around better in the abdomen while performing surgery. That's enough rationale for me.

I did 75 days on no/low carbs, no fat, high protein, but only have to do one day on full clear liquids before my surgery. But I also hated those protein shake flavors. I finally settled on Isopure unflavored and add them either to chicken broth (not over 140 degrees or they get really clumpy) or add them to the 5 cal drink mixes that you can get at Walmart (Raspberry Tea, Tangerine Grapefruit and Strawberry Watermelon are my favorites. I also add mine to V8 (low sodium) and tomato soup but that would violate your clear liquids diet, but help after?
