Surgery date and question

Hi. I have finally got my surgery date and it is October 5th. Started my preop diet last Thursday. I was wondering what clothes you were able to wear after surgery. I know I will of course have multiple incisions. I heard of people using a sports bra instead of a regular bra. Could I wear jeans? I am not worried about tops because most of mine are loose fitting. What did you all wear the first week or so after surgery?

I haven't had surgery yet, but I had abdominal surgery last year and I wore Old Navy yoga pants with roll top waist band. It's a large soft band that doesn't dig in but you can flip up if you feel you want tummy support (kind of like maternity pants).

No way I could wear jeans, but everyone is different.

I have a long torso, so my highest incision was about 5-6 inches below my bra band. So no need for a special one. I wore lose sweat pants with a drawstring as the other 4 incisions were in a line right along where my waistband was and I could pull my pants a bit lower to not sit right on them.

I wore knit capris with an elastic band for about a week. I might have been able to wear something more constrictive than that, but the idea wasn't appealing. The nurse practitioner told me to find something without underwire, and that having it close in the front might not be a bad idea (less stretching). I ordered a front close sports bra about a week before my surgery but it didn't fit. I did find a front close bra without underwire that I wore home from the hospital. It wasn't very comfortable so I went braless at home for a few days until I felt comfortable in my normal underwire bras.

For the first few days I just hung around the house in a night gown. After that I wore stretchy knit pants or sweat pants. But I don't have a real job so I don't need to worry much about work. And a sports bra would do well. Thats all I wear any more even after 100+ lb loss. GL. Diane S

I had no problems with any of my clothes immediately post-op. My incisions weren't near my bra band or the band of my jeans.

My surgery was at the end of August 2016, so I wore a loose fitting t-shirt type dress to and from the hospital with my standard bra and undies. I was able to wear all my regular clothes after surgery - but the first day or two at home stuck with leggings or other things with elastic waist. By the time I went back to the office 6 days later, I had on my chinos and a polo shirt - which was my standard office attire.

Keep on losing!

I don't think a sports bra is necessary. You will likely have one incision that is up high, but if your bra doesn't have an extra wide band, you should be fine. I was really bloated after surgery, so I was glad I had sweatpants with an adjustable cord to wear home. Since then, I have been mostly wearing dresses or stuff without a form-fitting waistband, but at a week out, I think I will probably be fine to start wearing jeans again. I would advise you to play it by ear as you might not know how comfortable you'll be until you see how much swelling/bloating you have and where your incisions are.

I had a belly binder (that helped me ALLOT) so I mostly wore sweat pants. I also wore a sports bra or no bra at all. The highest incision came to close to the bottom edge of my more structured bras so I avoided them until I was healed.

If you fall down you just have to get back up.
