2 weeks after surgery

Well I survived! Surgery was a lot worse then I thought it was going to be. I never had surgery before. First the IV in my right hand wasn't working so while I was under they put a new IV in my left hand. My surgery took 45 minutes. I was in a lot of pain when I woke up and I don't remember much at all from the first day. I was supposed to get D/C on Wednesday but they held me another night because my pain was so bad and I couldn't drink liquids fast enough.

Last week I found out I have a blood clot in my left arm and it has been very painful!

I'm having a hard time drinking the premier proteins every day because the taste and texture bothers me so much. Any tips? I tried drinking milk and that didn't sit well either.

Also is it normal to be light headed when walking too much?

How much fluid are you getting in?

Try other protein powders/shakes. I like optimum nutrition's double rich chocolate which I mix in unsweetened almond milk. I also like a number of syntrax protein powders. There are tons of options out there, so keep experimenting until you find something you like.

I'm trying to get as close as I can to 70 ounces of fluid but if I drink too fast then I get bad stomach pain.

Ive tried some other protein powders but they are too chalky for me and I have a big texture issue with foods and liquid mixes.

What does "as close to 70 ounces" actually mean for your fluid intake?

You might want to try adding more liquid to your protein shakes to thin them out more. Preparing them differently might help too - I find a difference between shakes made in a blender and shakes made in a blender cup. Adding in ice if you're making them in a blender might help too with the texture change.

Experiment :)

My husband had that problem after his sleeve (mine is schedule on 10/24 rv. from lapband) and what he did was drink room temp water. I know it sounds awful (at least to me) but that was the only way he could tolerate it for about 2-3 weeks. Now, he's fine with cold water (he's just about 6 months). He also put lemon and lime juice in it so at least the warm water tasted better.

I used syntrax nectar a lot close to surgery. I'd mix 50-75g of protein in a 48-64 ounce bottle and just sip sip sip all day. I'd then just do water the rest of the day. It is going to feel weird-ish for a while.

Hydration is vital because dehydration will kill you just as quickly as a blood clot. You also will clot easier if dehydrated long enough, since your blood becomes more concentrated. You will also get light-headed from dehydration, as well as blood loss and pain. You also just had surgery, too, so your body may want to rest. I'd call the surgeon and ask.

Hang in there, and keep sipping :) I constantly sipped like every minute...just a lot of teeny sips.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

The lightheadedness may be the anesthesia fog and it is also likely dehydration, too. Your daily goal is 64oz of fluids, and everything wet counts. You don't work up to this one like protein. Your body needed it starting the moment that IV was removed from your hand.

If you're not digging the Premier protein, try another brand or flavor. Some have to go through many before they find something that doesn't suck.
