Beyond frustrated with protein drinks

I know you said you can't stand the protein powders, but have you given unflavored isopure a shot? I mix it in 98% fat free cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken, vegan protein broth (sams choice), and anything else that is warm and liquid. (I also add unsweetened almond milk to my soups.)

I can't tolerate the sweet drinks either.

I've also mixed it with yogurt and in cottage cheese and sprinkled it on other food. You don't necessarily have to "drink" it and you can spread it out over the course of 5 small meals rather than take it all in one sitting.

How about non-whey protein? You can get protein powder made from egg, pea, or hemp protein. Those might work if it's the whey giving you problems.

At this point, you shouldn't need a shake though. So maybe stop trying to find one and just stick to solid foods?

This. Are you still on shakes via doctor's plan or just convenience factor. I hated HATED every shake I tried and as soon as I was able to get enough protein from food alone, I dropped them completely. That was about a month post-op and I haven't had one protein shake since.

I'd much rather use the calories on eggs, or cold cuts, or high-protein yogurt (

I feel like I'm getting the same way. So I started looking for something smaller that I could maybe get down quickly.

GNC has IDS Liquid Whey Protein Shots that come in Grape and Fruit Punch with 42g protein. On the bottle it says "New Whey."

Unjury chicken broth protein is pretty good, too.

Hi,

I like ISOPURE. http://www.theisopurecompany.com

No sugar alcohol, no carbs, no lactose. Very clean medical grade protein. It tastes like banana water and sometimes I will add a little 30 calorie almond milk and ice cubes. No chalky taste at all.

I use a scoop and an extra quarter to get 30 grams of protein in the morning. Also you may want to take lactase enzyme. You can buy them through vitacost for 10 or 12 dollars for a whole bottle. I remove the powder from teh gel caps and mix it into any of my dairy. It is like lactaid except much cheaper just in case you are lactose intolerant. I was when I was sleeved .

Hi Again,

Sorry, for ISOPURE, I use a half a scoop as it has 50 grams of protein per scoop and then I add another quarter scoop. And it has no carbs.

My mom has had an RNY, and she gets very creative with hers. She uses a blender with ice. She usually starts with a vanilla base and uses add ins. She was telling me about adding a couple spoon fulls of canned pumpkin with pumpkin pie spice. Another one she does is vanilla with decaf instant coffee to make a Frappuccino like protein shake. She has also used chocolate, then added a spoon full of peanut butter. They make sugar free Hershey syrups, you can buy vanilla extract, or almond extract to add flavor. Get creative. She is like you and cannot tolerate the protein drinks plain, so this is what she came up with.

Whey protein aftertaste was something I couldn't tolerate either. On top of that, I also got bloated and gassy, so like you I was desperate to find something else. Egg protein was my answer. JayRobb was my brand of choice. Bone Broth protein is another to try that is available these days. I've tried it and it doesn't suck either.

All that being said, if you eat strategically, you can kick protein drinks to the curb altogether. I keep a tub of egg protein in the pantry just in case, but I've not opened it in years.
