There is a LOT of variety in coverage out there. Your best bet is to call the customer service number for each company, then ask about their specific coverage and requirements for WLS in the specific plans you're looking at.

Why were you turned down from your current company?

you can't be turned down from getting insurance coverage.

Your insurance plan from your employer can exclude was coverage if they don't buy the rider for it.

Is that what you mean?

My secondary insuraceis United Health Care. The doctors office put the surgery through them and they approved it. I ended up calling my primary insurance carrier, Empire ( doctor didn't contact them) they also approved the surgery. I would call up the various carriers to see what they do cover. Hope this helped.
