I'm only 4 months post op and have lost 40 lbs only! I'm on my second stall! I exercise 4-5 times a week, take 60-90 g of Protein, I struggle with getting all my water in, I eat 5 small meals a day, low fat, low carb, and low calorie! and small amounts. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The only thing I know of is my anti-depressant Celexa, that causes weight gain, and my surgeon said it may slow down you weight loss :-( I really would rather be sane than thin! so I didn't stop taking it. Now I'm thinking I should stop it under a Doctor's supervision.

Any ideas as how to get out of this rut?

My surgeon's office told me that they expect us to lose 4-8 lbs a month, that is all, so you are doing fine! I just saw my neurologist yesterday who told me that if we lose faster, it can be really hard on our bodies neurologically. That we forget that all of our systems have to make changes, and some systems change a little slower than others.

STAY ON YOUR CELEXA!! Or, move to another agent, but don't stop the antidepressant just so you lose weight. It may hold you back a bit, but you are doing well.

Keep up the good work with the die****ch your hydration level and the weight will continue to come off. You didn't gain the weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight, either.

Thank you for your reassurance. You are right about the body needing adjustments. My hair hasn't been falling off, so I think it's because of my slow weight loss! I see so many people who lose a lot of weigh in a short period of time and wonder why can't I do that? lol

You could still lose hair. It's a reaction to the surgery and anesthesia -- telogen effluvium -- not the weight loss. And it doesn't start for most people until the 3 to six month marks.

If you do, it will come back, so don't worry.

Not to rain on your parade ... but my hair loss didn't start until around the 4 month mark and it lasted until about the 9 month mark. It wasn't all that bad because I had thick hair to start with. It WAS annoying to have all that hair falling out all over the place more than anything.

If you fall down you just have to get back up.

It's hard to say. What's your height and weight? 40 pounds in 4 months might be great, or poor.

Do you weigh and log your food? Every bite? Or are you estimating.

Could you have lost 40lb in 4 months (and kept it off) before surgery?

What do you eat in a day? If you share a sample menu we can help troubleshoot.

I have been on antidepressants, including Celexa and its cousin Lexapro, through my entire surgery journey. Per my surgeon and psychiatrist, it may affect hunger, but it won't muck with your metabolism enough to sabotage any progress earned from following your post-op instructions.

You are fine. I lost weight pretty slowly; sometimes only 4 pounds per month at about your phase. But I kept at it and got to goal and even below. Just keep doing what you are doing. And don't quit anti depressant. You will get there. Diane S

If you share what your daily meal plan looks like, we can try to troubleshoot for you. Are you measuring and tracking everything you eat and using something like MyFitnessPal? Not getting all your fluids in can definitely be a problem.

I'm on the generic version of Celexa as well, and it did not seem to impact my weight loss. If your doctor feels there would be another anti-depressant that wouldn't effect weight gain, then I suppose you could try it. My only concern there is that not all anti-depressants work the same. If Celexa is doing its job for you, I recommend staying on it. I had to try a couple before I found one that work the best for me.

Sounds like your doing everything right. Ten pounds a month is great.

Keep up the great work, and I think your doing wonderful!
