Trouble with meat, chicken and fish.

when I first went to soft food I did really well with puréed tuna and chicken. I tried some hamburger meat that sat ok as well. About 5-6 days ago I've had a issue with eating more than an oz of meat without feeling like i'm Going to throw up. I've actually done that twice.

In the beginning I hadn't had an issue. I never felt full. I still watched what ozs and all but now I feel full after very little food but I'm having issues with getting enough protein. I'm going back to protein shakes for a meal rather than spacing it out for my snack.

I'm seeing a lot of eggs in my future lol.

Oh, I didn't realize you were that early out. This just sounds like normal "I'm progressing my diet too quickly."

Sounds like you should talk to your surgeon. I had an issue about 3 months post-op, if I recall correctly, where I have lots of restriction going on. My surgeon put me on an anti-spasmodic for a week and I did a "quick" progression back through the diet stages - 3 days liquids, 3 days purees, 3 days soft solids. I haven't had a problem since then.

I know every surgeon is different, but I am grateful my doctor is on the conservative side of diet progression. It was a good 8 weeks before I was eating what you are. They do that because they have had fewer complications with healing. I'd call the office and see if they want you to back off to the soft stage between purée and denser protein. I couldn't eat chicken or fish in it's "normal" state until about 9-10 weeks. The smell was disgusting to me. Everything is good now. I still use protein shakes to meet the 80gr per day.

My doctor also had a very slow progression through foods. Go back to softer foods for a while, then slowly try small amounts of more dense proteins.

You've had a wonderful loss so far! I have the it's okay one day, not the next sort of pattern at 6.5 months out. I've found if the first bite feels "iffy" in any way, refrigerate and regroup.

A friend in another group gave me a great tip on the protein shakes; I use the Premier shakes in my decaf coffee; I get liquids & protein, and the 11 oz bottle is 30 grams right there. So that covers a good bit of my day.

I find cottage cheese is good; I have gotten adventerous with No Fat Chobani Greek yogurt, which is higher in protein than other yogurts.

You've gotten lots of wonderful tips from other folks! And I agree, let your doctor know. Oh, I do soft fat-free refried beans with no fat Kraft shredded cheddar....as long as I eat slowly it's good.

When you do not eat meats, you have to protein combine -- that is, beans with brown rice or cheese, or a corn tortilla.....when you're at a solid point.

There is a recipe on the internet for refried bean soup which I found good. (I oddly like the Taco Bell fat free the best)

I have days where meat doesn't seem to sit well at all. Then it'll be ok for a while. I use it as a reminder to mix up my diet and my protein sources. I was raised vegetarian (mother's religion reasons) and so I like many of the meat substitutes, and they seem to always sit well on my sleeve.

Also, even this far out (21 months) I find some days I feel a lot of restriction, and other days I don't feel much at all. I have my portions that I don't exceed in a sitting, but if I get uncomfortable before I finish I go ahead and stop. If my protein is too low for the day, I leave the calories in my plan to have a protein shake before bed (keeps my sleeve from growling too loud and waking up hubby as well).

This process has really taught me to listen to my body and adapt my diet to what my body wants/needs.

As early out as you are, check with your surgeon in case there's a problem. Maybe take new foods a little slower, and in smaller amounts than you have been. Everyone is different in their tolerances for advancing their diet post-op.
