Almost done Prevacid

I finish my postoperative prescription of Prevacid in about a week. Wondering if I can expect any kind of rebound when I stop, with a lot of stomach acid. Or is this - I hope - a seamless transition.

When was your sleeve?

I'm taking omeprazole (Prisolec) for 3 months post-op.

It's preemptive since I don't have reflux or GERD.

Talk to your prescribing doctor about this, but dropping PPIs such as Prevacid and Prilosec can result in some rebound reflux, and a weaning off period is often suggested. Cutting the dose in half for the last week or two, and'/or substituting an H2 inhibitor such as Zantac or Pepcid are common approaches.

From what I've read here, it's different for everyone. I didn't have any issues when I stopped taking it, some people have to taper.

I don't know about those questions, My Doc did not prescribe a PPI @ surgery. If i was very concerned I would call and ask to talk to the nurse that works with the surgeon... to get an "official response". I am guessing it is a matter of each individuals respnse -and may vary greatly.

I would avoid any foods that increase stomach acids, for sure. .. and have some OTC,on hand for transition...Just in case... It is likely if you have issue it will be after medical office is closed or in very early am. Be very diligent about remaining on your diet and following all diet rules.

If I do not get enough protein late in evening, acid and low blood sugars awaken me at 3:30 in morning.

I have used Prevacid with NSAIDS when I must take them( either oral or rectal suppository) for severe pain...as part of prescribed pain protocol.( 1-2x a month)

I keep OTC packages( 15mg) of 28 day supply on hand for gastritis... and take them @ Rx's strength(30mg, BID).. for 3 days, then daily for 5. (Usually it is a weekend/my PCP not in weekends) If I have intestinal edema and small diameter stools( one of my first symptoms of acute gastritis) my body responds very quickly(2 hrs) to prevacid as opposed to prilosec.

My advise to everyone... is to always keep some of "what works best for you" on hand.
