Stalled at 2 weeks and now 5 weeks out still stalled. Feeling absolutely hopeless :(

My surgery date was 09/06/2018

Starting at 327lbs, preop diet I lost 28lbs. Morning of surgery I was 299lbs. First 2 weeks post op I lost 11lbs, which put me at 288lbs. It's now 5 weeks out and I haven't lost a single pound!! I've read about stalls and I know they are common but so early on I am getting extremely nervous. From what I've read, don't most people lose the most weight in the first month? I feel as if something is not right here.

I have been using My Fitness Pal to track as much as I can, I occasionally fall short. My nutritionist advanced my diet at 2 weeks to include things like: veggie burgers, low sodium lunch meat, canned tuna and canned chicken, beans, etc. Ever since then I have stalled out completely for the last 3 weeks. I am not over eating, if anything perhaps undereating, which may be why my body stopped losing weight?

Overall I am just SO discouraged and really disappointed in myself. I can't figure out what the problem is.

Stay the course. The 3-week stall is common...mine lasted 5.5 weeks!! But I just kept to the program and then the weight started falling off. You have to remember that your body is in shock...it's hanging on for dear life because it doesn't understand why you're not feeding it like you used to.

Many of us go through the same thing. Search 3-week stall in here and you'll see hundreds of panicky posts just like yours. Hang in there, this too shall pass!!

Glad you chined in. I recall you talking about your 5-wk stall before and it's kept me sane the past couple of weeks :)

Glad I could help! There will be many stalls during the course of your weight loss and that is perfectly normal. As long as you keep to your plan and remain diligent, it always drops! Keep on keepin' on!!

Under-eating does not slow or stall weight gain, that's just a myth.

Can you post a sample menu of what you eat in a day so we can help troubleshoot?

In general, people who lose a lot of weight on their pre-op diet tend to lose more slowly at first, so I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Sure thing, a sample menu looks like this:

Breakfast: Premier protein vanilla shake

Lunch: Starkist creations packet

Dinner: 2 oz Tyson grilled chicken

Snack (if I get it in): Oikos triple zero yogurt

I think an added issue would be hydration, I'm probably only averaging around 50 oz a day

if you aren't tracking consistently, you don't teally know that you aren't "eating too much."

how many calories are you eating a day? Many of us can't lose on more than 600-800 cals a day.

May guess is you are eating more calories than you think you are and that is do many calories it has put you into maintenance.

I do track regularly, it's on occasion that I forget. I have my goal at 600 calories and usually am at or below that.

I'm in the same boat that you are... I hit my 3 week stall and now 5 weeks out I'm still stuck but I'm just getting my energy back so I'm exercising more hopefully that will help move things in the right direction.

"I have been using My Fitness Pal to track as much as I can,"

To me this sounds like you are just "guessing" how much you are eating. You probably need to weigh/measure every bite. As heavyweights, we have to be super-stringent if we want to lose it all AND keep it off (I had RNY and started at 339- 10 years out I am maintaining around 150).
