Topic: RE: Going back to work Monday and need ideas
Hi...I have to go back to work Monday 4/2/12 and not sure what to bring to keep me going all day.  I work 9:30 - 6:00.  I know I'll do a protein shake on the way to work but after that I'm not sure.  I'm still not able to eat but 1/4 cup portions of food.  I guess cheese stick for another...and somehow another protein shake before I leave for the day?  Any other suggestions would really help.
I'm also looking for a Protein Bar that tastes good (but I need Gluten Free) and I've been using Unjury Chocolate Splendor Protein powder, but need something a *****eaper (that still tastes good.)
Thank you in advance for all replies.  Everyone has always been really great to support each other on this site~
Topic: RE: Why on earth did I have surgery???
Hi, you really have been through a lot.  No wonder you are wishing you hadn't had the surgery.  I was told prior to surgery "for the first few weeks you might wish you had never had the surgery, but later you'll wish you had done it sooner."  I kept reminding myself of this and still do.  Can you talk to the nurse/office manager and tell her about what has happened and maybe you can arrange a meeting with the doctor and the office manager (bring someone with you for support) and see what he has to say and how he responds.  This way you'll know if your relationship with him can be salvaged.  If not make an appointment with the other doctor who others recommended and explain what happened in person...I think another doctor would be more open and understanding when you talk to them in person.  This will all pass and then you can concentrate on the sleeve working for you!  Good luck to you, Mary
Topic: RE: Will I ever be able to eat again?
Thank you for taking the time to respond.  I thought I was supposed to jump in and be able to eat a couple ounces right from the start.  Now, I have learned from reading others stories to relax and take it slow.  Thanks again, Mary
Topic: RE: Will I ever be able to eat again?

Thank you for your reply.  I am just going to take it slow.  As long as I get my protein in then I'll let the rest fall into place when the time is right.  Have a great day,  Mary

Thank you so much for your response.  It gives me encouragement to hear from others who had the same problems.  Take care~ Mary

Thank you for your kind words...just having someone call me sweetie right now means a lot!  They weren't kidding when they said emotions can go a bit crazy after surgery.  Take care and thank you, Mary
Topic: RE: Will I ever be able to eat again?
Hi, thank you for your reply.  I am able to keep the protein shakes/water down.  And the cottage cheese type foods didn't get stuck...I just couldn't eat more than a few bites.
What you said about being swollen makes sense.  I am just getting over the left sided pain and I went to the Dr today for an infected incision.  The Dr said he is okay with me still being on the protein drinks for now.  It helps to know you couldn't eat much in the beginning also.  Thank you soooooo much, Mary
Topic: RE: It's sleeve eve!!
Sorry...hit the button my mistake.  I'm 3 1/2 weeks post and 30 lbs down...you'll be losing before you leave the hospital. Again, good luck!

Congratulations and good luck tomorrow!  You'll be dropping weight b
Topic: RE: Will I ever be able to eat again?
I am almost at the end of week 4 post-op and I am scared to death right now...I have not had success with the pureed foods.  Every time I have tried to eat something I can't get more than a few bites in, and I am full.  I never can count the protein grams in the food because I don't get enough food in to count.   The past two nights I have experienced my first "dumping" and tonight I didn't get sick, but I spent 45 minutes with the horrible "stuck" feeling and thought I was going to have an anxiety attack before it was all over.  Now that it seems to have subsided I'm just so emotional.  I'm afraid I won't be able to eat again.
Is this normal?  Does it take some people longer to get to food?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you all.
Topic: RE: 3 weeks out.....

Hi Michelle~  I had my surgery Feb. 23rd and am trying to add pureed foods in also.  I  don't see how I will get my required protein grams in each day by going to real food.  I am drinking a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and then trying to eat the pureed food for the last 10-20 or so protein grams.  But I  just can't get more than a few bites in, so then I end up short on my protein grams for the day.  I am also having left sided pain (burning and pulling) that has gotten worse instead of better.
How have you been doing with your post op?  Do you have to puree the scrambled eggs?  I have lost 23 pounds but it is slowing down...how are you doing with this?  I hope we can offer each other information as we go through this process.  Thank you, Mary

Topic: RE: 2 Weeks Post Op- Burning Type Pain??
Thank you.  I just got a call back from my doctor's office and was told pain on the left side is very common.  Maybe I just over did it a little.  I can't wait until I can sleep without being afraid to move.  I'm sure it will be any day now.

I did hear somewhere this was the incision that most of the work is done through, so that does make sense.  Thank you!
Topic: RE: 2 Weeks Post Op- Burning Type Pain??

Thank you soooo much.  This does sound like the same thing.  Every time I feel it I think I am pulling sutures in there and it freaks me out.  I'll hope for less/no pain in about a week.  Have a great day!

Topic: RE: 2 Weeks Post Op- Burning Type Pain??
Hi,  just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.  I have had a burning pain on the left side of my abdomen since surgery.  At first I mostly felt it when I tried to lay on my side to sleep.  I thought it would be better by now but instead it feels worse.  It isn't at an incision site but close to it.  It's coming from inside, not on the top of my skin.  I keep worrying about getting a hernia.  I have also heard it could come from the muscle that was cut and stitched back.  I have been putting an ice pack there and it does help somewhat.  Any suggestions or related stories would help.  Thank you!
Topic: RE: Post-Op- confused about how to get the required protein
Thank you for your suggestions.  I'm using Tums right now but I'll look into the Gaviscon.
Topic: RE: Post-Op- confused about how to get the required protein

My surgery was February 23rd.   I will try taking my PPI as you suggested.  I am using milk diluted with some water for now.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Topic: RE: Post-Op- confused about how to get the required protein
Thank you soooo much.  That is exactly what I needed to know.

Have a great evening!!!!
Topic: RE: Post-Op- confused about how to get the required protein

Okay, I hope I can explain this right...I mix my protein drink and after a few sips I feel full.   Do I stop drinking then, or give myself the full 30 minutes to finish the drink?
If I stop drinking as soon as I feel full then I am only getting a fraction of the protein that made up my drink, but if I continue to sip my drink over 30 minutes I will get the full grams of protein but,  am I over filling my stomach by not stopping after I first felt full?

Also, where is the heartburn coming from?  I'm taking my PPI but today I can't seem to get rid of it.  I didn't have this problem prior to the surgery.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Topic: RE: how can i get comfy to sleep after vsg 2/23/12
Thank you for all your help.  I know I will feel better once the drain comes out.  I am not able to sit for any length of time without feeling restless.  I used to have some anxiety in the past and I think feeling confined just brings this back a little.  All the comments saying things like, "day 5 felt alot better" are great to look forward to.  Any other suggestions, please share.  I hope I will be able to add something that will help somone else along the way, as well.  Everyone have a great day!

Topic: RE: OMG-Surgery Feb 23rd...What do I buy?
Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure I get the sugar free popsicles..is it for getting in your h2o?  If that is the case, how many would you have to eat to equal ? much water?  Thank you
Topic: RE: OMG-Surgery Feb 23rd...What do I buy?

Topic: RE: OMG-Surgery Feb 23rd...What do I buy?
I didn't know my surgery would come so quickly.  I thought I was prepared but now I'm freaking out.  I'm ready to go buy every item mentioned in the print-outs given at the classes.  I know I probably would not use half of it.  Could those of you who have gone through this please give me some direction.  Should I buy the protein powder from Costco (I'm told it is a lot cheaper), or I hear Trader Joe's has single serve cans of Chocolate Protein drink.  Can I use any multivitamin or does it have to be from Bariatric Advantage?  Thank you for any advise...Yeah!
