Topic: RE: left upper side pain

i haven't had surgery yet but i was just in the hospital the other day for the same thing, sharp pains in my upper left side.  the doctor said it can be gas trapped in the colon where it bends (transverse to descending yadayada).

or sometimes even you can get constipation there and it causes pain.

it's better now but wow, i thought i had serious issues.  amazing how gas can be SO EVIL

Topic: RE: question about right after surgery.

good to hear i'm not the only one who thought it might feel that way.  it's so hard to imagine something you haven't done yet, even with hearing stories after stories.  i always wonder about the weird stuff no one talks about lol.

Topic: RE: question about right after surgery.

oh thank you so much you guys!  totally not what i expected, and i'm so glad to hear this.  i can definitely understand the cramping and that doesn't bug me at all.  thank you again i appreciate your info.

Topic: RE: question about right after surgery.

i know people have to sip their water.  i am asking people to explain to me how it feels.  i have a real phobia of choking/suffocating and i'm imagining that you can't drink too much water or you will choke and that freaks me out.  can you tell me why you have to take small sips and bites?  is it because it gets stuck?  does it come back up?  does it hurt in your throat or your stomach?  can you not swallow well because your esophagus is swollen or something?

i have no problem with taking small sips and bites.  i can do it now and it's okay, i just want to know if you ever feel like you are choking so i can prepare myself and not get a big suprise when it happens.

Topic: RE: sleeve or not to sleeve
i have a saying.  if i get a blood clot or a leak or die even from surgery at least i died trying.

my life being overweight is full of fear of heart attacks, strokes, getting diabetes, having high cholesterol and high blood pressure.  it's a ****ty quality of life i'm living.  plus i'm single, lonely and too scared to go out in the world and be who i want to be.

so i have two choices. continue to live this way with risk after risk leading to premature death...

or taking a chance of maybe getting a clot, maybe getting a leak... and these are like less than 1% chances of these things are happening...

what choice would i make?

what choice would you make?

and if you really want to get ridiculous, you could have the surgery, get through it with flying colors and then get hit by a bus lol.  you know what i mean?

taking chances is what life is all about.  when people get old, really old, they don't regret the things they did in their lives, they regret the things they didn't do.

(((HUGS)))

Topic: RE: Unexpected consequence
biggest thing that i noticed is that vsg people look a lot healthier and younger post op than people who lose weight the old fashioned way.  i think that has so much to do with our protein obsessions lol.  i've never met someone on a diet who was so concerned with protein and i think that really screws up their skin and muscles (so their faces just look gaunt and old, where as ours are glowing and round still, which as we know that apple cheek thing makes you look so young)
Topic: RE: Bulimia...
it's awesome that you even wrote this!  the first step to recognizing the problem and getting help.

i was a bulimic for 20 years (age 16 - 36) i'm 42 now and still have off days when i still need to feel that 'control'.

you wrote this...

Strangly, it feels like the only thing I have control of in my life and I'm starting to binge and purge on a regular basis.

this is the basis of where you start.  gaining control back in your life and not needing to throw up after binging to feel it.  once you get some counselling and get back on track you won't even feel like binging anymore.  its like dominoes falling, you get things sorted out, you don't feel that emptiness inside that needs to be filled with food, and then you dont throw it up because you lost it and on it goes.

good luck.  if i can do it.  SO CAN YOU!
Topic: RE: 8 days post op - have reflux - can't take Pepcid or PPI's - now what?
peppermint tea
licorice tea
tummy tamer tea and pretty much any tea for indigestion should be okay?

not sure about how this would totally effect your kidneys but i take a tiny bit of baking soda with water to neutralize acid.

Topic: RE: McDonalds
i swear they put heroin in mcdonalds food!  i got a salad thinking it was a safe alternative after cutting myself of mcdonald's crap for the longest time, and as soon as i ate the salad i was craving a cheeseburger and fries.  WTF!!!!
Topic: RE: Gaining weight
can't you gain weight more from eating too many starchy carby foods and sugar etc.  rather than too much to stretch your sleeve?  i mean slider foods etc.

so your stomach would still be the same size but you have to change what you are eating, more dense protein and low carby stuff and less potatoes etc.
Topic: RE: Calcium Citrate 600mg with Vitamin D Question
why don't you get the 600mg and just get a seperate bottle of vitamin d?  like a liquid form, which is awesome.

or you could take 630mg, im pretty sure 60mg extra isn't a big deal (if you want to have them combined in one pill)
Topic: RE: Reflux/Heartburn and the sleeve
just curious for those who have gerd.  do you use ibuprofen or naproxen?  i get gastric erosion and ulcers from those meds.  when i don't take them i feel pretty good.  so just wondering if those types of meds irritate gerd too.
Topic: RE: weakness and always fainting
have they checked you for hypoglycemia?

like you drink this mega sweet drink then they check your blood sugar to see if it crashes?

i only say this because you mentioned you need to eat sugar or you will faint.
Topic: RE: Hard to believe this!
did anyone ever see that episode of flight of the conchords where murray answered the email for the nigerian scam and got his money back plus interest?  and the guy came down to visit him?  it was funny as hell.
Topic: RE: What are you thoughts on using protein shakes at 6, 9, 12 months out and more?
as someone who doesnt eat alot of meat and finds legumes too carby i would drink most of my protein as a shake (using water to get the low cal/low carb benefit) and eat low carb healthy vegetables in between (steamed spinach & kale, avacados for good fats, etc), then blueberries and other low carb antioxidant foods.

i also like 'superfoods' like maca, chia seeds, etc as supplementation.

and unprocessed teas (ginger, circumen and green tea is my fave).
Topic: RE: sleeved this morning feeling like death...dr aceves
i've had many many surgeries too, and i always get like an alley cat after.  swearing at the nurses, making inappropriate jokes, crying, thinking i'm dying, barfing, you name it.

it will pass.
Topic: RE: Surgery Saturday, starting to get cold feet...and anxiety
i'll tell you something...

i actually look forward to the moments right before surgery.  you will feel euphoric and love everyone while you are lying there.  it's awesome.. lol.

my only regret is that it only lasts 1 number from the countdown.

i'd probably really make a good drug addict now that i think about it..

Topic: RE: C-reactive protein Test - blood fat
oh you bet!  i found out about that test by accident, i had all my blood test results here at home and looked up what all the ones i didn't understand meant.  i was suprised it wasn't marked as H for high.  the values were
Topic: RE: C-reactive protein Test - blood fat
if yours was real real real high it could be inflammation from arthritis or infections.
Topic: RE: C-reactive protein Test - blood fat
mine is over 3 and i have high cholesterol (not super high but just over the border of high).  scares the hell out of me.  been drinking anti inflammatory teas and stuff.  wrote about it in another post.  i smoke and weigh 210lbs.  (haven't had surgery yet).  i think both are contributing factors.
Topic: RE: Seriously???? Come on now...
unjury must be the default ad, as i've never searched protein powders online and that is the one i see right now.  pizza ads is just cruelty!
Topic: RE: Tummy Tuck
i've had a tummy tuck after i had my daughter, i'm very happy to have had it and don't regret it.  even though i was 200lbs when i did get it, my stomach is flat as a board (still) and clothes fit so much better.  the scar is something i am proud of.  i call it my battle scar lol.  it's easily hidden with bikini bottoms and you get used to it.

i just hope when i get my vsg and lose weight i still have my taut hard stomach lol.
Topic: RE: set point weight.
this is probably a silly question but i'm kind of paranoid.

i had my daughter in 1997. the date of her birth i weighed 209 lbs. when i got pregnant i was 160lbs. exactly what i weighed when i had my son in 1993 (when i got pregnant with him i was 120lbs). so you could say my weight gains have happened through pregnancies (hormonal? metobolically?) this runs in my family too. the ladies have babies and get big. the more they have the bigger they get. lol

soooo... for the last 15 and a half years i've fluctuated from 190 - 210. i gained 24lbs over the last year after trying to quit smoking and other weird reasons so i went from 204 to 228 from nov 2011 to a couple months ago. i started taking protein drinks and cutting carbs and am down to 213.

there are some financial issues since i'm self pay, and i would have loved to have had the surgery in february, but issues keep coming up and i am not sure when i will be able to have it. you see my mom is going to get the medical loan for me cuz my credit is borked, but she's laid off right now for the season, and they haven't called her back yet. so until she gets called back we don't qualify for the loan. could get a call back tomorrow, might have to wait till sept or oct. this is actually a blessing in disguise as i have been going to counselling and have really worked on my eating habits and why i have stayed overweight. i realize i'm addicted to starchy carbs and have cut them out completely.

but with that out of the way, i was thinking of losing weight to get down to my bottom weight of 190. when i try naturally to lose weight i just can't seem to get below the 190. it's soooo weird! like my body wants to stay there. i figure if i get to that 'point' where my body seems to like to be set at and i get the surgery then i might be able to break that point and lose more. is this a reasonable assumption?

Topic: RE: Hair Loss Shouldn't Be A Deal Breaker
i have super thick curly wiry hair.   i could lose some of it, i look like a blonde carrot top.
