Topic: RE: Please HELP!!
I have the same doc as you.  I had revision  from lapband to the sleeve with Dr Morales 2 yrs ago. He is an awesome doc.   You are only a week out from surgery,  I wasnt even getting in as much protein and liquid in as you are now, and wasjust told to do as much as I could.  It took my a while to work up to the  60gms protein and 64 ox fluidsm because I had a lot of swelling,    I think as long as you are getting enough proteiin and fluids in to keep you from getting dehydrated, i doubt if they put you back in the hospital. I may be wrong, but for your sake, I  hope not.
Topic: RE: Less than 24 hours and I will be sleeved!
Amy, best of luck to you.   Glad youi finally got approved for your revision.
Topic: RE: HELP!! SLEEVE or band?
After having had 2 failed bands(both slipped) and being revised to the sleeve a year ago. I wouldnt recommend the band to anyone.  I love the sleeve.  With the band you never know what you will be albel to eat from day to daywithout throwing up.  And you have the hassle of fillls and unfiills.  The sleeve is awesome.
Topic: RE: Lapband removed and get VSG at same time - ANYONE?
I had 2 lapbands and was able to have my revision to vsg at the same time the second band was removed, even though I did have a lot of scarring.  I think it depends on your doctor, whether or not they will do in one surgery or 2.  Some doctors prefer to remove the band and let you heal for a while before doing the vsg.
Topic: RE: Revision Appt with SSM Depaul STL/Dr. Morales

You're welcome.  Glad everything went so well for you.   Thought you would like Dr. Morales  He definitely doesnt have a surgeon attitude like a lot of them do.   Dr. Scott never spent much time with me and always seems rushed,  even thought he did 2 of the 4 surgeries I had and assisted Dr. Morales on my revision.  I dont know who the new surgeon is that is helping Dr Morales, but I'm sure hes good, because it toook them a long time to get Dr Morales in there, they were extermely picky about who they brought in.   Dr. Scott has been around longer and has a great reputation as a surgeon, but after having dealt with Dr. Morales I would have total confidence in him , with another surgeon helping him,  He really knows his stuff.   Everything he told me was right on. I think if you really wanted Dr Morales and Dr Scott together, if you tallk to Theresa, she would try and work something out.  It might just take longer to get a surgery date, iif they have to work it out with both their schedules.

I dont know what the Back on Track program is .  Must be sometthing new.  The last time I was there was in February for my 6 month appt.  They want you to come in yearly at least for 5 years.  It probably isnt necessary, but I will do it.  I asked Christin, the nurse practitioner, who yoiu will see fo your follow up visits, after your 1 week post op if I really needed to come once a year, and she said they like you to, to see how you are doing and since they are a Center of Excellence

Hi Amy,

Am so glad you got in to see Dr. Morales. He is great about explaining things and taking time with you to answer all your questions. Never seems rushed. As you know, I am one of his band to sleeve revisions, and I did not have any problems, He was actually the main surgeon on my revision and Dr. Scott assisted, since they do all their revisions together I just never changed my surgeons name on here. The office staff is very friendly and helpful and they have a great overall program. I go in next Tues for my 1 year followup appt, a few weeks late, My anniversary date was 8/18,  Hard to believe its been a year already.

Hope you get your approval  soon,  As soon as you get your approval, they will set you up for an all day pre surgery class, and you will get all your preop testting done the same day.  They allso give you your surgery date that day.  Good Luck!!!!

Sherry

I have UHC and didnt have to do the 6 month diet.  I think every plan is different, even though it is with the same  insurance company.  Depends on your employer.
Topic: RE: why remove band and vsg placed on different dates
i also had my band removed and sleeve done in one surgery.  I was told by my surgeon ahead of time they might not be able to do both depending on what they found when they got in there.  I did have a lot of scar tissue, since I had had 2 bands, but luckily was able to get sleeve at the same time.  I think it just depends on the doctors preference.
Topic: RE: Dr. De La Torre in Columbia: band to sleeve revisions?
I think he probably does do the band to sleeve revisions.  He used to be at Depaul Hospital in St Louis 1 day a week and did my first band in Sept 2006..  Hes in Columbia full time now.  I had my 2nd band and my revision to  VSG done by Dr. Scott, who used to work with Dr. De la torre in Columbia and is now at Depaul and St Clare hospital in Fenton.  Dr De la torre is a really good and experienced surgeon, so I'm thinking he probably does do band to sleeve revisions.   If not, I dont know if you would want to come to St Louis for surgery, but they definitely do the revisions at Depaul Hospital in St Louis.  Dr. Scott is there and also Dr. Morales, who took over for Dr. De la torre.  Dr. Scott and Dr. Morales do all their revisions together and they did mine.   Both of them are great  surgeons.  The staff there is very helpful and friendly.  The number there is 314-344-6800.  If I can answer any other questions just let me know.

Just wanted to say hi from a native St Louisan.  You look great.   Go Cards!!!
Topic: RE: had 3 bands and lots of scaring worried
I had 2 bands and was revised to the sleeve last August.  Like the previous poster said the surgeon wont know until he gets in there and sees  how much  scar tissue there is, whether or not he will be able to to the revision.   I did have a lot of scar tissue from the 2 bands and my  surgery took 3 hrs, but they were able to do my revision to sleeve all in one surgery.  I would just make sure your surgeon is experienced at doing revisions.
Topic: RE: Joining you all former crap-band patient
Congrats to you on getting rid of the crapband!!! I had 2 bands both of which slipped and I went thru 4 yrs of problems with them, ending up in the hospital several times, because of dehydration.  The only reason I got the second one was because at that time my insurance was not covering the sleeve, and I didnt want RNY.  I thought what were my chances of the same thing happening with 2 bands.   Was revised to the sleeve last August, after my insurance started covering and am down 110 lbs from when I started with the band, and couldnt be happier.  If you decide to go with the sleeve, you will love it.    There are a lot of band to sleeve revsions on here and also on the revision board, so you will get  lots of support.
Topic: RE: Old-Timer Has a LONG Story
Welcome back,  I remember you from when you you used to post on the band board.  I had 2 bands, both of which slipped and was revised to the sleeve in Aug 2010.  Got my first band not too long after you in Sept 06.  Good to see you posting again and that you are getting back on track with the sleeve.
Topic: RE: Revision from band to VSG complications?

I had 2 bands before I had my revision to VSG.  The only problem I had was that I did have a lot of scar tissue and the surgeons had some trouble removing my port.  They were able to do the band removal and sleeve at the same time, but the surgery did take 3 hrs.   But other than that, I had no complications.

Topic: RE: Questions about the sleeve (particularly, revision from band)
I had 2 bands ( had slips with both) before I was revised to the sleeve last August.  The sleeve is so much different than the band.  I do not slime or have GERD/heartburn with the sleeve, both of which I did have with the band.  I love the sleeve, you are able to eat normally, just not as much.   I had nothing but problems with the band.  I think if you revise to the sleeve, you wil be very happy with it.
Topic: RE: help or advise going from lapband to vsg and ins.
I had 2 lapbands, had slippage with both.  I had my revision to VSG at the same time as my second band was removed.   I think its more what your doctor wants to do as far as one surgery or two than the insurance.  I would think the insurance company would rather pay for one surgery.  Some doctors will do the revision at the same time as the lapband removal, others prefer to wait and give the stomach a chance to heal.  It also depends on when they get in there what condition your stomach is in after the band, if they are able to go ahead and do the revision.   Good luck to you, and you will love the sleeve compared to the band.
Topic: RE: Changing my mind
Get the sleeve.  I had 2 lapbands, both of which slipped and I had nothing but problems for 4 yrs.  I was lucky enough that my insurance paid for my revision to tthe sleeve last August and I couldnt be happier.  The difference between the 2 is unbelievable.
Topic: RE: Dr Oz and the lapband show today, anyone see it?
To the people who say we are band bashing, this is the VSG forum.  I did not post anything on the band board.  If you  are so happy with your band thats great, but why are you on the VSG forum?  I just stated my experience with having 2 bands and having slips with both of them.  My slips were not do to me not following the rules or surgeon error.  Slips are very common in a high percentage of band patients and the Dr. Oz show was very one sided, and didnt explain the risks and serious complications you can have from the band.   I wish you many years of success with your band and hope you never have to go thru what I went thru with mine.  I'm just glad I was one of the lucky ones who's insurance paid for revision to VSG, which is a surgery that actually works.
Topic: RE: Dr Oz and the lapband show today, anyone see it?
I just posted a long comment  on the Dr Oz website about how one sided the show was, and telling of my experiece with the band.  Be interesting to see if I get a reply back.
Topic: RE: Dr Oz and the lapband show today, anyone see it?
I agree he was probably paid big bucks by the band manufacturers to do that show.  The know in a few years when the sleeve starts being covered by insurance companies, they are out of business, so they need to make all the money selling the crapband now.   I cant believe there hasnt been a class action lawsuit yet from all the band complications.
Topic: RE: Dr Oz and the lapband show today, anyone see it?
I had 2 bands before I  got my revision to VSG.  I spent 4 years going thru major issues with the band.  I dvr'd the show and jus****ched it and it seemed like Dr. Oz was just doing an infomercial for the band.   It was like they were just trying to ignore the woman who talked about the compiications.  Everythng she  said was true.  I dont even know why they had her on there, no one was listening to her anyway.  The one doctor said he had done 2000 bands and had never had one erosion and I thought he said only 1% of people have slips and they were easy to fix which  is a total lie.  He said its an easy surgery to remove the band if it doesnt work for you.  He didnt bother to mention the damage and scar tissue the band can leave.  The amounts of food the 2 women were showing they eat in a day, was so unreal.   I guess thats all they could eat or they would be throwing up constantly.   Unfortunately, Im sure there will be a lot of people who watched that show, who will be convinced the band is right for them.
Topic: RE: Tomorrow is my revision from Band to Sleeve!
Good luck tomorrow!!! I had 2 bands before I got my revision to the sleeve, and even though I had a lot of scar tissue was able to get revised to the sleeve at the same time I had my second band removed.   I know how you feel about wanting  to get rid of the band.
Topic: RE: I Have My Surgery Date!!!!
Yeah, on getting your surgery date!!! I'm from St Peters, MO, so not too far from you. .  I had my revison from the band to VSG last August.  Which doctor and hospital are you having your surgery done at?  Mine was at DePaul and they are great there.
Topic: RE: 2 months closer and there is a little setback...
I dont know if it varies by UHC plans, but I had a revision from the band to the sleeve and my BMI was under 40, and they approved with no problem.  Unless its something new, I havent heard of UHC only approving the sleeve for over 50 BMI.  You might want to call UHC and ask them yourself.
Topic: RE: Got a Date! & Insurance/Payment Question
I slso have United Healthcare.  I dont know if yours works the same way but this is how mine was billed.  I have a $350 deductible, then I pay 90% of everything up to $1000.  So, the most I can pay in a year is $1350.  I didnt have to pay anything upfront.  I had already met my $350 deductible.   I was just billed for the 10% my insurance didnt pay.  I recieved seperate bills for my 10% for the doctor, the hospital and anesthesiogist.  Also, the 10% I paid was on the negotiated amount that insurance pays, not the actual amount that is charged.  So, the actual amount you pay, shouldnt be that bad.  Insurance companies pay a lot less than self pay.
