Topic: RE: Tailbone/butt pain
Tail bone pain is quite a common complaint with our weight loss.  Mine started at about 6mos out and although it has gotten much better, it still causes me discomfort from time to time.  My chiropractor said its simply because its the first time in such a long time that our tail bones are not padded that its much more sensitive.  I'd say sit on something soft, but I never found that to help.  Switching positions often is the best medicine.  (The tail bone pain is still way better then being obese!)

Topic: RE: VSG doctor in Mexico Recomendations
Hi there!  I'm from Calgary too!!  I went to Dr Alvarez and couldn't have been happier with him.  I had to fly there via Denver to SanAntonio and the plane was small (if you are tall, don't choose the window seat), but I was comfortable enough.  Rosie picks you up and takes you to EaglePass, she was super nice and the drive was pleasant.  I felt completely safe the entire time and I travelled alone.  Dr A. called my husband as soon as I was out of surgery to report on my condition and to re-assure him that I was fine.  The hospital had phones for us to call home anytime (for free) and for our family to call us as well.  We had PC's and internet in our rooms as well.  The hospital was clean and quiet and although I didn't really understand the night nurses, they could understand me enough to take good care of me.  Once home, my family doc was impressed with everything and pleased with the report sent home from Dr A.

PM me if you want to chat!

Topic: RE: 28th cant come fast enough, just got sick again

Ok, first of all, you can't go all day without taking in anything.  You need to be taking in small amounts all day long, especially if you are still on liquids.  Protein shakes were not even an option for me, I hated them post-op.  Try adding clear protein powder to soups to up the protein, even when you are on mushies it will help.  The ice may have been too cold for your new tummy, so experiment with temperatures.  For me, warm and room temp were the only options for the fist month and a half and then one day cold became the way to go.  You just have to follow your stomach's whims right now and you will be much happier.  The best advice I got was to think of myself as a newborn baby and to think about all the various trials and tribulations of feeding a baby....right temp, right taste, right consistency...its all trial and error.

Don't worry, this phase only seems slow right now, but it really passes much faster then you can imagine!

I just realized that you haven't had the surgery yet!  My first statement stands though, you really can't go all day without something, its not surprising that your stomach is upset.  On the liquid pre-op you can have so much more, add soups in there, what about yogurt or s/f pudding, Popsicles and fudgesicles?

Topic: RE: I've postponed my surgery......
I'm sorry to hear that you've decided to postpone.  I am wondering about your motivation, because this isn't about your husband's relationship with food, it is about yours.  Why would you think that you would have to choose between VSG/healthy life and your husband?  Does life change?  Yes, but not in a bad way, you just get healthy and as a result get more active.  You will be able to eat anything you want in time, just in smaller quantities.  This is not something you can exactly do with your spouse unless they also have the VSG. Expecting him to change how he relates to food simply isn't realistic, that is somehthing he'll have to do on his own.  My husband relates everything to food, but if I waited for him to get on the same page as me, I'd never have gone through with the surgery.  This is a gift you give to yourself first and foremost and by doing that, you will be giving him the gift of a healthy and happy you.

Good luck, I wish you well.

You are going to LOVE Dr A., he's so amazing and gentle!  Best of luck and I hope you have a very speedy recovery.  Don't forget to grab a cup of chicken soup at the airport in SanAntonio if you are flying home, it's in a little restaurant just past security on the right (ask for broth only).  It was the best soup I've ever tasted!  I sipped my way to Denver.

Thanks!  You are doing pretty awesome yourself!!!
I don't actually have to meet with my surgeon or Nut.  I'm in Canada, so I'm doing all follow up with my family doctor.  I have detailed info from Dr Alvarez to follow for my guidelines, but for the most part, I have chosen to eat as normally as I can, just in small amounts.  I do try to keep my proteins to 65+ grams.

I can't believe its been a year already!  Where has the time gone?  This has been an amazing year and it wouldn't have happened with out my VSG!  Being able to get a grip and lose weight has been fantastic and liberating.  For the first time in years I feel like I'm living again and truely enjoying it.

I've lost 116lbs so far and even though I didn't make it to gaol in the first year, I'm not down on myself at all.  I'm happy with slow and steady so long as its a nice downward trend.  I love that I can eat whatever I want and that I get physical cues to tell me when I need to stop.  I'm not afraid of eating anymore and that's the best part!  I still start my days with a protein bar and G2 (I like simplicity on the go).  I make healthy meals for myself AND my family and have been working hard on making sure that my kids grow up with a good view on food.

If you are sitting of the fence, jump off and do it!  You won't regret your decision to make yourself healthy.

Dr Alvarez  - You made this all possible for me and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Me too!!!!  I see a chiropractor weekly for neck pain, but it certainly hasn't helped my butt!  I do find that sitting up straight helps, but who wants to do that all the time?!?!   Oh well, a sore bottom is a small price to pay I guess.

I'm avoiding the gym in favor of the sun, but walks are nice!  How do you feel about dogs?

Thanks!  I am happy with my success, but I really do want to reach goal.  Its pretty cool to be able to shop in all shops...although I'm pretty sure that the number on the clothes and the actually measurements have changed ratically since I was last able to wear a 16 regular....come to think of it, I think the biggest was a size 15???  Odd sizes have disappeared!

It seems that I'm not one of the people who can't see my weightloss...I can see it, I like it!  BUT I think my eyes see me looking better then I really do look.  Its been so long since I've fit into regular sizes that I'm happy and I'm good right where I'm at....at least that's what I tell myself.  This is confusing. .......I'm maintaining nicely though.
How do I get myself back on track so I can lose the rest?  I had planned to be at goal a couple of months ago, but obviously that didn't happen.  Now I'm a days away from my one-year and stuck.

Topic: RE: Any success with Dr. Alvarez in Mexico?
I loved him!  I had the best experience with him and would highly recommend Dr. A to anyone and everyone!  I travelled from Canada by myself and never once felt concerned for my safety.  The hospital was clean and comfortable, with renovated patient rooms.  We had TV, PC's with internet and a phone which we could use at anytime to call home for free.  Dr Alvarez called my husband right after surgery to report how I was doing and he found him to be very reassuring!

You won't regret choosing Dr Alvarez!

For me, its snacking out of boredom!  I'm in a huge stall because of it.  I have found that the further out I get, the more I can eat, the worse its getting.  I need to get a grip and go back to basics!

Me too!!!!!!  I have such horrible bruises on my legs that I won't even wear black nylons with a skirt!  I have always bruised fairly easily, but this is ridiculous.  I've been wondering about vitamins too as I haven't always been so diligent about taking them.

Topic: RE: I can't get enough protein bars lately!
I'm with you, I love those bars!!!  I also have found that if I replace a meal or two with bars that I lose faster (Pure Protein was hard to find for a little bit, but its back!).  I figure the biggest downside is that they are not balanced as a meal replacement so I definately need to be deligent about multi-vits but otherwise it works for me.  My husband has concluded that I live on G2 and chocolate .  I like it and he likes the results!

Topic: RE: Anyone know of GOOD work from home jobs or good ideas for own company?
Well, I'm not sure about how things work in the US, but my husband is a mortgage broker and has been hugely successful.  He works from home, doesn't need to meet clients and can be flexible with his schedule. The first year can be a bit tough as its a fully commissioned job and you don't get paid until the person closes on the house/mortgage, but once you have built up some business it all flows nicely.
I also know people who sell Arbonne.  Its similar to Avon, but the commissions are quite a bit better. I know a number of people who have built their business up and were able to earn more then $5000/mo by their 5th month with Arbonne.  I use the product here in Canada and really like it, I considered selling it, but I'm not a sales person at all!
I hope you find something you will truly enjoy.  Best of luck!
