Topic: RE: Stalls and the newly post-op
I am 2 weeks post op and weigh myself 3-4 times a day. After reading your post I am putting my scale up and only weighing myself maybe once every 2 weeks. Hopefully it will help me not feel so discouraged. Thanks for sharing!

Topic: RE: ANY OTHER FOODS TO EAT THAN....PUDDING, YOGURT, PROTEIN SHAKES, APPLESAUCE, CREAM SOUPS..PLEASE????
I live on wonton soup broth and broth from a recipe called "Chicken and Dumplins". It is a thicker broth that is so very yummy and I could eat it everyday. I also really love the broth from black bean soup. I am not able to eat mushies until Thanksgiving so I am stuck right there with you in boring world.

Yesterday I blended up 2 strawberries, 4 blueberries and a dab of sugar free frozen yougurt with some ice. It was wonderful but could only eat a couple of bites due to restriction.

Topic: RE: What's with me?
Are you taking something like prevacid? I never had reflux or acid issues before surgery but after surgery was hungry so much but once I started prevacid it really really helped. I don't feel much restriction with clear liquids but if I eat applesauce or a creamy soup I can feel it after 2-3 ounces. I am not on mushies yet so I can't help you there.

Topic: RE: Need a New Bra...Help!!
I need a new bra and have bought them at Lane Bryant for the past 10 years. Anyone know of other good places to get bras? The ones I like they aren't carrying at LB any longer so I need to figure out another place that will have comparable bras that will keep the girls "UP"!!

Topic: RE: My Very First NSV.....I Think!!!
I don't belong to a support group but hope to attend the local one soon. I have 3 small kiddos so it is hard on my hubby to keep all 3 by himself. I wonder if we can manage one on here somehow. I guess the shipping costs would be hard!

Topic: RE: I just can't do it
You sound just like me. I hated all protein powders I tried. I drink the GNC Isolate drinks in the glass bottle. They are similar to propel and I only drink the grape. I mix it with Ice and add the raspberry crystal light with a half a splenda and mix it. It is actually really good and I can get down my needed protein usually. If I am still lacking I will drink a half of the choc. Atkins shake but it is really sweet and I don't like it much. I don't drink any of the powders or shakes blended in the blender. No matter what I tried I could still taste it..yuck!

Awww, thank you! Yes it is a huge motivator and I can't wait for more to come off. It just isn't happening fast enough but I guess I didn't gain it overnight either!! I started a tub of too big clothes and will maybe join a clothing swap!!

Topic: RE: finally sleeved
Congrats on your sleeve. You are doing much better than I did. I didn't much feel like getting on the laptop until I was home from the hospital. I also had a hard time with fluids. They made me feel very uncomfortable with pressure pains that I couldn't really describe. I am 2 weeks post op and it is much much better. Also, for me taking prevacid, gasx and walking as much as possible helped so very very much. It does get better with time just hang in there!!

Topic: RE: Pain in Back
I also had bad back pain for the first week post op. Mine ended up being gas pains and after taking the chewable gas x a couple times a day and taking my prevacid it disappeared instantly. I hope this helps.

Topic: RE: My Very First NSV.....I Think!!!
You are so right. I think in my head that nothing will fit because I am so used to having to try 20 things on because everything was always too small. I need to go thru and see what all fits and pack up everything that doesn't.  Since  I am 2 weeks post op it still hurts to wear jeans and such so I guess I will start with my comfy clothes. Did you keep the bigger sizes for the future? I am such a pack rat that it will be hard to get rid of them.

Am I considered a slow loser or is this par for the course? I realize everyone is different but I have only lost 15 pounds since surgery on Oct. 20th. I think I am heading into my 3 week stall..ughh. HOw did everyone else look 2 weeks out?

Topic: RE: 2 weeks out and always Hungry
I was the same way and did some research on OH. I started taking prevacid solutab (ask dr for rx) and it fixed it. I feel full now for hours after I have 2oz liquid. It helped so much for me. I didn't know it was acid reflux either but was just uncomfortable. It was a miracle worker.

Topic: RE: Vent - Non Supportive Husband
Yes, we have three adorable sweet precious kiddos! I work way too many hours and can't do it alone.  I pray for confidence, that is actually one of my goals and hope to gain some in the short term. I am thinking some counseling would be great for me and the kids also. They do watch him and our oldest is in 1st grade so he is seeing his dad's behavior. That is so hard for me! Do you have any kiddos? They are so much fun! I can't wait to be a more healthy mom!

Topic: RE: Vent - Non Supportive Husband
I was terrified about talking to him about the surgery and we still don't talk about it much besides the obvious like dr appts and such. He is really upset with me for spending our money on it as I am self pay and so I am sure that is where some of the issues are stemming from.

I am going to ask him about therapy this week and see what he thinks. Our insurance pays for it.

Thanks for everyone's help. I am so gald to have you guys as my support system.

Thanks, I will take your advice and try to have another heart to heart with him about this. He isn't a serious guy and thinks he is being funny. I don't think he even realizes how hard his comments are on me. I did get "cranky" with him tonight at dinner about a comment he made and he told me I was being a "BIT**". I am such a shy person and hate to fight. It does sound like couples therapy is in the works for us. I don't think I realized how hard this surgery was going to be on our marriage. I think I might be getting somewhat emotional with the restrictions of just liquids and no solids and add my husbands comments and we are a hot mess!! Thanks for letting me vent ladies.

Topic: RE: Vent - Non Supportive Husband

I am going to apologize ahead of time ladies, I am having a very hard day. I don't think I realized how hard this was going to be post op with no support system at home. My husband is constantly asking me if I want a burger or a bite of his junk food and then smirks at me in an evil way. I am having such a hard time with this surgery post op.

I am trying so hard but hubby brought home Mexican Food take out yesterday which was so hard to watch him eat chips and salsa in front of me. I just love mexican food. I can't wait until 4 more weeks until I can have solid foods.

I love you guys and am so thankful for you. Any ideas on full liquids would be great. I am tired of the same ole', same ole'  soup broth, protein drinks and water...ugh! I don't like any milky things of cream of wheat type things.

I have to go grocery shopping tomorrow, I can do this, I can do this, I can do this!!

Topic: RE: Sleeve Shopping List!
A safety Pin - you will have a drain and it is easier to pin it to your shorts/pants. It hurts less and is out of the way when walking etc

Favorite Pillow

Chapstick

Comfy Clothes - this was a biggie for me. I was able to change about 2 hours after surgery and stayed in comfy shorts and tshirts the whole time

Slippers - I called them my high heals!

Face Wipes - if you use them

Ear Plugs

Also, this is something you can't buy before the hospital but they have them there and they saved my life from dry mouth. They are mouth swaps that start with a "G" but can't remember the name. They taste kinda like sprite and I used them every 10 minutes until I was allowed liquids. I had to beg for them but I swear I couldn't have made it without them.

Also, a heating pad for your back right after surgery is also wonderful. You feel a bunch of the pain in your back for some reason. If they won't give you a heating pad than ask for a hot blanket behind your back (lay on your side). It relieved the pain that the meds couldn't help.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Topic: RE: Dehydration
I had surgery on 10/20 so very close to your date. I went the entire day today from 8am to 4pm without taking one sip of water because I was sleeping (rough night with pain from surgery). After 4pm I tried to drink every minute but all of the pressure, gas, burps, foamies etc. keeps me from getting in my liquids because it is so uncomfortable. I don't have any advice for you but wanted to let you know I am in the same boat as you and am going to follow your post since I have similar concerns about getting dehydrated. I noticed today my knees tried to buckle when I went down the stairs and that scared me. It also takes all of my energy to walk to the mail box. I hope you feel better sister!
