    Topic: RE: be honest...who's drinking???
I find my self on the opposite end of this spectrum.  I wasn't much of a drinker preop and I haven't touched the stuff since surgery 8/29/06.  I'm too scared of how my body will react!  I never drank except on special occasions and when out with friends (which doesn't happen often due to where I live and where they live).  And, my favorite drink is/was a strawberry daquiri which would be TOO sweet and make me dump for sure.  Other than that, the only drink I ever drank was rum/coke and with not drinking carbonated stuff...  You get the picture!  LOL  What on earth would I drink?  How would I know how much was too much?  I'm clueless as to what I may like drinkwise.  I have only ever found one wine I found fruity and not terribly sour and it was a white zinfandel at Olive Garden.  I suppose I could try to find some sort of wine tasting somewhere, but I'd have to go with someone I trusted as I would be afraid to drive home and hubby is prone to excess with wine and he isn't pleasant to be around after he's had too much wine (so he doesn't drink it!).  Sort of limits my options!  LOL I guess this will remain an area where I have no trouble as though I really missed feeling comfy ordering  a drink when with friends last month when I went to conference, I can't say that I truly missed the drink itself, just made me feel a bit "different" since I felt like I COULDN'T as opposed to shouldn't...  Know what I mean? Topic: RE: Problem not absorbing synthroid - need ideas
Annette, I've had my synthroid decreased twice since surgery.  My doc explained that it wasn't that my thryroid was functioning better, just that there was SO much less of me body fat wise for it to metabolize through...  Medicating a 212 pound person instead of a 410 pound person...  I've gone from 150 mcgs to 112.  It almost had to be raised this last set of labs though as my numbers went the opposite direction (longer period of malabsorption?) and while I'm still within the normal range, I'm closer to needing an increase...  Maybe I'll consider the chewing of the pills, though I've not chewed or crushed ANY med since surgery... It DOES stink to be hypothyroid though...  You got that right baby! Lea

    Topic: RE: Basics
Tooter has a lovely page on her site that helps break down carbs into good, better, best, etc.  I pass that on when I see someone ask carb questions...  The link is http://bariatricbytes.com/carbs_by_degree.html and she calls it "carbs by degree."  Very easy to help understand what is best... You are also ALL welcome to join us in the newest round of the mini-challenge (Halloween ending).  It has been a good means of accountability on a week to week basis for a lot of folks...  You can find out more about the challenges by clicking the link in my sig box.  You can go directly to the current roll call post and join by posting your highest/preop weight, your current weight, and your goal you'd like to reach by Halloween...  That link is http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/health/postdetail/1226.htm l?vc=0 I admit to eating a bit too many carbs from refined sources...  I could probably lose better (still about 50 pounds from my goal) if I really cut back on those sort of carbs! Hugs, Lea

    Topic: RE: Carb Question
When I count anything, I count net carbs as in carbs minus fiber as I know the benefit my body gets from the fiber....  A lot of people will tell you to count total carbs, not net carbs.  I guess it is a matter of opinion! Lea
