Topic: RE: 7 years out and developing an eating disorder?

    Hi,

I have worked in an eating disorder residential home.  The fact that you are acknowleding that you may have ED means you are one step ahead of most.  I hope you do get some professional help.  There are tons of support systems out there to help.  Even if you need to go to a center, many are very pleasant as far as location and you will make long lasting friends when living with others with similar issues.  Let us know how things go.

Topic: PA Folks in Potter, Tioga Counties etc.

    Hi,

Just wanted to remind you of our special speakers for our next meeting.  This will be great for any of you who suffer from food addictions.  There will be four folks sharing their stories and about recovery.  We will also have water and a small snack.  If you wish to bring some to share, you are welcome to do so.  The meeting will be from 7pm-8:15pm.

Also, this may be a little premature for some of you but I have ordered the Zumba DVDs.  These are set up for different levels of exercise/dance to Latin tunes.  I eventually want to have a time we all can dance and workout.

    See you soon!

    Hi,

I guess I got to feeling so "normal", I forgot I wasn't.  I feel great!  So my forgetfullness came into play.  I have been reminded over and over that I am not.

I enjoy red wine in the evenings.  I have to use control and it isn't easy.

    Thanks for sharing.

Topic: RE: New here, 10 yrs out (x-post)

    Hi Lynn,

I am 9 years out.  I had the MGB in May 2000.  I have to say I haven't been very responsible myself.  I have only myself to blame.  I went down to  a size 2 and up to a size 10.  You see, the more I lose, the saggier I get.  Now that's a pretty lame excuse, don't you agree?

I know better.  Now that the weather has improved, I want to get outside more, walking, biking and such.  I am going to encourage my support group to walk with me on Saturdays when the weather is nice.  The hospital, where we meet, has a great walking trail.  I am also going to check into the Wellness Center to see if we can, as a group, use the facility once and awhile.  I have my dance classes which helps a little.

Have you had any issues with alcohol?  This is something that is popping up alot more now.  So easy to get hooked.

    Anyway, welcome!

    Topic: RE: help,help,help

It's weird but I rarely crave sweets.  I do get in my bored eating habit but tend to choose salty stuff.  No, I don't have the best eating habits but I am trying to eat healthy.  I'd like to get back into smoothies this summer.  As far as old habits, you may want to journal those times and see if you find a pattern.  Sometimes there are triggers that cause us to make wrong choices.  You may want to see a nutritionist and he/she can give you some guidelines for healthy eating.

    Topic: Potter County Support Group

    Hi all,

We have decided to have our support group meetings on the 2nd Friday of the month at 5:30pm and the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:30am in Coudersport.  These meetings, initially, will be similar. They will be meeting in the multipurpose room in the Wellness Center which is the farthest building in from highway 6 on the left side of Charles Cole Memorial Hospital as if you were facing it.  Plenty of parking there.  Also we are looking into possible discounts for the Wellness Center for all post-op patients.  More on that later.

Topic: RE: Motivation and "Mindful Eating"

I learned about mindful eating when  I worked at an eating disorder home.  They had mindful lunches once a month and it was a good way to connect with food and feelings.  Journaling during the lunch was also encouraged.  I think it is a great tool for us as well!

Yes.  That would be a great idea!  Let me know how it goes.  I know what it's like not having support so, do you know what I did?  I got certified as a Leader and starting my own support group.  That way I can, "practice what I preach"! so to speak.  That has been the best thing I have done!

    Hi,

Yea, those parties are wicked.  I think you can do it.  Yes, it will take pulling up your boot straps so to speak, but you can.  It sounds like all those snacks were your triggers and they are firing up a storm.  I understand the snow ball affect.  A good support system is going to help you.  Do you see a nutritionist or a counselor?  Is there someone at your hospital who deals with addictions and/or disorders.  I'm not saying you have these but there are some awesome tools that are interchangeable that work very well.  I think you need to find a tool that will reset your thinking and get you going the right direction.  Huuugzzz

Topic: RE: How to get back on track

    Hi,

There are alot of factors that can contribute to not losing weight.  I am eight plus year out and I have changed alot on how I eat and exercise since my journey started.  I know the tool still works because when I put the effort in to limit fats and be more active, I lose.  Anyway, our bodies make periodic adjustments throughout our journey to balance our weight loss.  That is why we hit plateaus and such.  What I suggest is that you look back and see what changes happened to you, what bad habits have crept in and how adjustments can be made.  Sugar, I have a little.  Not anything like I used to, but I have learned that depriving myself makes me mad and angry and go overboard when it hits peak.  I try to think food as fuel for my body and not my body for food.  It is an on going process and at times, ooops, I didn't think that one through as I munch on a donut. teehee.  Sometimes, we have to deal with the brain issues, like emotions, addictions, and things that trigger our bad choices.  It is alot of layers to get through and sometimes, we need help in dealing with those.  I know I am being very vague but I don't have alot of details.  I can tell you that don't think you are a failure.  You have done great so far.  You just may have to dig a little deeper into yourself and make some changes.

    Topic: RE: Keeping Graduates Motived!

    Good morning!

    Congrats on your marriage!

No, not motivated.  I am pretty much by myself up here in the boonies.  We are planning on getting a support group going in February up at the hospital so I am hoping this will motivate me to be a good example to the others who come.  So, right now, I am in a bunk and feel really not motivated for much.  Don't have money for the gym at the moment or my dance classes.  I am hoping to pick that up once finances get better, but that shouldn't keep me from practicing!!  Anyway, I am hopeful I will pull out of this bunk soon!

    Topic: RE: I need help

    Hi,

You really should not be dieting.  That is what the surgery is designed to do.  You need to learn how to eat healthy.  Maybe seeing a nutritionist would help.  Also, you may want to consider giving your scale a break and use your clothes as a guide to success.  Weight fluxuates, even with people of normal weight.  Also, if you don't have a counseler, it may be wise to consider it.  Your fears appear to be very strong and he/she can help you confront your fears and give you tools to use to help you with that.  Remember, the surgery is a tool but we still have to battle our "demons" that put us in an unhealthy state to begin with.  Keep in touch ok?
