I tried pof, looser city so far.  I've hidden my profile.

I tried eharmony years ago but I was never impressed by the matches.  Even their so called analysis of me was well off the mark.  I never paid, it was just a  free trial experiment.

After six plus years I decided to try this experiment again.  Online dating looks just as bad as it did back then.

I hate to say it but I have tried a lot of on line dating sites. Plentyoffish.com is a free dating site. Right now I am Eharmony no luck so far it has been 2 months. And it runs about $44 a month. I would be better off taking the money and going out. There is Cheaters.com it is a run off from the show Cheaters. I met a lot of nuts on the site. I would not try that one again. There are so many sites out there. Not sure that one site is better then another one. It is like playing the lottery. Sometimes you pull and winning ticket but most times you buy a loser. Wish I could of been more help. If you find a site that works please let me know. Good luck.

What sites are good for the over forty set?  I'm looking for young active forties & fifties.  Not over the hill forties or spritely young at heart seniors.  (Unless they are rich of course .)

From a bar fly, I just say relax and be you.  The freedom I find in my forties is I no longer feel the need to impress.  I don't mean bad manners or scratching myself, lol.  Just no primping and posing for the fellas.  You'll have a better time just going with your own mood.  If you meet someone there'll be no worrying if he'd like the real you should you decide to see him again.  Have fun.

Tonight I am going to a local club with a friend. Her cousin's band is playing. I am only having one drink and the rest of the night is water. But I plan on making that drink last a long time. Here is the dilemma: I have not been out in a really long time. And even the times I did go I didn't get any attention because I was always the fat girl (237lbs). Well that's not the case anymore(152lbs). I am nervous that I am not going to know what to do if I do get any attention. Sounds dumb I know. Any words of advice?

I have always looked quite young for my age.  My face is still looking OK after nearly 100 lbs, but my neck is U-G-L-Y.   This could just be me..... other people tell me it's not as bad as I think.  But...... my double chin is now a big loose skin wrinkle!!!

I guess this is just something I am going to have to accept and live with.  It still beats the double (and tripe chins) I used to have.

That is what I hear about all plastic surgery after weight loss, at least one year out before they will consult. They want to give the skin time to bounce back and settle,

Ironically I spoke to one informally about procedures to fix mid face issues.  He evaluated me on the spot and insists I will not need a facelift.

He does has an associate that specializes th the area I'm concerned about but he would not touch me without waiting a year after goal for my face to fix itself.  Bottom line, come back in 2011.  I hope he is right.

    Hi Babygirlinokc,

This too was a second wls surgery.  I got my band in 05 and the first year I had it I lost 50lbs, then it slipped.  I had it fixed and thats when all the trouble began I could not get my band working again.  In 08 they moved my band up and still no luck.  July 13, 2009 I had my band removed and my sleeve done.  I am very happy to have had the second wls.  I am 5'5", 46yrs old, so far I have lost 41 lbs.  I am hoping to have another 9 lbs off by the end of the year.  Starting in January I will work on losing another 30lbs.  My goal is to get to 140 - 145.  Sounds like you are doing well.  Keep up the good work!  I have gone from 220 to 179..so far it has been great!

    Take care,

Hi and welcome to the site.  I noticed that no one had replied to your questions and was just wondering if you'd found the lap band posters yet?  If not, if you look under Forums, Surgical Forums, there is a Lap-Band System Forum.  You might be able to get lots more help and info there.  Good luck in your journey!

Got rid of 10 lbs before surgery
    I was 204 after surgery
    Now I'm 169 lbs.

Got rid of 10 lbs before surgery
Got rid of 25 lbs so far.
    Total 35 lbs gone.

Yes, I think so.  Since May I have lost a total of 66 pounds and there are more wrinkles around my eyes and on my forehead.  I have been thinking this is due to fat loss in the face.

No constructive suggestions to help here, I think the only thing that will help is a Plastic Surgeon!

no i think crying is good as i'm not interested in films that treat this (highly charged) emotional issue in any way that i can't identify with.  i hope it will arouse an empathic response in viewers without a history of obesity as well.  frankly i think that's one of the only ways you can bridge the understanding gap.

I wish I could say I'm sorry the film made you cry, but I'm also glad it's affected you like it did.  We're striving to produce a film that will move folks and also inform people about what really happens once folks have weight loss surgery.  Some of us have been less successful than others, some of us have been more successful than others and some of us have been successful, but still feel it's not "good enough".  I think most of us who have had weight issues for a very long time have the biggest mental challenge....the body may change, but, unless you work at it, the mind may not change....

It's all a process -- we showed the film at a recent NYC Independent film festival to distributors and funders and the response was extremely favorable.  We're excited about finishing up the project and getting it out to the airwaves!  I'll keep you posted on when the project is finished and when you can expect to see it. You can also keep track of it by signing up on the film's website (www.allofmethemovie.com) for updates and more info. Thanks again for viewing the clip and leaving your thoughts!

Topic: RE: Hey 40somethings, has weight loss aged your face?
i can't tell yet, but it doesn't appear so.  i'm convinced being overweight made me look much older than i do now.  but, i can see where i'm going to have some sagging jowels.  my eyes looked very sunken and bruised when i was fatter, i think they are going to improve.

however i'm obsessed with finding effective skin care products.  right now my favors is developing to be the Jason line from Whole Foods (i also am obsessed with finding paraben-free and where possible all-natural skin care).  i have wicked sensitive skin.

ann bellina (http://store.annabellina.com/) has extremely high-quality skin care products at extremely good prices, mostly organic, all paraben-free last i checked, i really liked them but right now even at their relatively low prices i can't afford them.  i still have some of their eye serum which i use regularly, when i run out i'll probably go to Jason's ester-c if i am still a fan.

microdermabrasion and skin peels are supposed to be excellent rejuvenators, but you want to get them at a salon IMO, by an experienced professional.

Exfoliating twice a week can go a long way to improving skin tone.  I use a papaya-gylcolic "gentle skin peel" (not really a peel but seems to be a pretty effective exfoliant) by earthscience.  i have been using twice a week for a few weeks and it hasn't irritated my face, which surprised me.

I just ordered some jason ester-c face serum which i plan to start using daily.  i use jason's "nourish" line of face moisturizer which i love, and then the anna bellina eye serum (because it's handy) and then some vickery & clark eye cream - when that runs out, i will probably try the Jason line again.

i use vickery & clark cleanser & toner also (and used to use their moisturizer) just because it was the only paraben-free line available over the counter in my area, outside of whole foods.  so it was convenient, but they aren't stocking them anymore, hence my move to jasons.

i've also been using Jason's vitamin E body lotion and really love it so far.

Mine's aged a lot, too.  I'm going to be trying the Olay Pro series stuff here in a week or so.  I'll be home recovering from my TT and figure once I'm off the pain pills and not always sleeping, I'll use the time off work to see if using that stuff faithfully can help!  I don't know why, but the thought of having a face lift scares the heck out of me - more than any other plastic surgery does!  I guess because if it doesn't look wonderful when it's done, you can put clothes over the body parts, but not the face!

Hi there - the documentary is still in progress -- as a matter of fact, she'll be in Austin to shoot in a few weeks.  Her plans are to do one more shoot after that and then will be getting it out for the film festivals.  I do think there will be a new trailer put on the website for the film (www.allofmethemovie.com) within the next month or so.  I'll keep you posted on the progress and am glad you enjoyed it!  Thanks for taking a look.

I'm scared and excited.  I'm more excited than scared....LOL  I'm going this weekend to stock up on all the things I need to have in my cupboard and so I will be ready when I get home from the hospital to hit the ground running.  My house will be spotless and I can concentrate on just me and what I need to do for my well being.

My surgery date is November the 2ND.

Does anyone have any other advice I need to have ready for when I get home from the hospital.  Am I forgetting anything?

Unfortunately, I 've had a setback.  I was standing up and sneezed at the same time......at day 12, I felt like my innards were coming undone!  Since then, I have put on a backbrace backwards to help support, since I can't seem to be able to get a abdominal binder anywhere.  All pharmacies around my area want to have a MD order 1st.  As a nurse myself, I've never heard of this....anyone have any ideas?

Congratulations on a great first month.  You will fall into a slower wl pattern after the initial quick drop.  Perhaps stall a little until your body adjusts, then start loosing again.  There are several versions of normal so just be patient.   Some of us never got that initial jump start even following the rules to the letter.

I hope you'll post here often.  This board needs some regiular activity.

There is not much activity on this board, but  I'd like to share the experiences of my own age group.

How has your face fared after weight loss?  What products do you use to tighten the skin on your face and neck?  Anyone use products designed for sensative skin?

I haven't wrinkled but I now have a far thinner face with puffy frown lines.  They are more like loose skin falling to the center than creases.  I look ten years older than I did post op.

Suggestions please?  What is your experience?

hi, i'm 44 and was recently dx as mildly hypothyroid, started on 50mcg levothyroxine.  the levothyroxine does seem to help with my weight loss, although i was started on metformin for suspected PCOS at the same time and that might be what's turning the trick.  i have been a very slow loser, even starting with a pretty low BMI (36.5) which would lead one to expect a slower than average loss.  However, I am losing steadily especially now with the new medications.

i've heard testosterone cream can help with this.  women do need it, just in smaller amounts than men.  i don't know much about replens.  i am also perimenopausal and this is becoming an issue, but not yet a big enough one to pursue a fix... but enough that i'm semi-aware of some of the options.

the dryness is caused by a drop in either estrogen or progesterone, i forget which.  maybe you want to get your hormone levels tested and consider hrt, unless you don't want to go that route or feel it's too early.

I had WLS in April and my hair is beginning to thin around the edges.  I didn't notice  it at first, because keep it short in a wave style.  I hair is relaxed and I will continue to keep it relaxed.  I'm meeting with the nutritionist to find ways to increase by protein intake. I stopped with the protein drinks because I was sick of them, but I have to go back.
    Hi Randall,
I wanted to check to see if you can see Stewie.  How's your day going?  Fine I hope.  Take care .

    Hey Karen,
I hope that your stomach troubles are resolved soon! I can't imagine having that much trouble for two years! I hope you're losing weight, at least, if you have to suffer tummy troubles. Best wishes!

    Hi,

I'm from Ottawa, I'm also with Dr, Graber; I'm still waiting for OHIP approval! I got the feeling they wont accept me.

They also asked my Doctor who would be the Doctor in Ottawa to take care of me after the surgery.

I had my surgery 3 months ago (RNY).  I have lost 53 pounds since and had lost 42 right before it.  I am down 96 pounds from this time last year.  The one thing I wished I had know was that the cravings did not go away and I still fight them everday.  One surgery doesn't change 49 years of bad habits.  If you have strong food cravings before surgery there is a good chance you will still have them afterwards.  Of course the good thing is that after the surgery you can't binge or you will get sick and if you eat to much, to fast, you will get sick.  Those are the safety tools that help keep you on track.  Good Luck with your research.  I can honestly say I'd do it again in a heart beat no matter what I've run into since my surgery.

    Katrina,

I am a patient of Dr. Lavine's also.  Have you met him yet?  Does waiting for the return calls drive you crazy?

I saw Chris and bought all of the PrescripFit.  I cannot use due to the artificial sweeteners.  She did not recommend a set amount to lose, just said lose.  Maybe I'll understand more after I see the nutrionist.

Do you have a surgery date yet?

    Dana

    Hi Jilly,

I have a friend with the same problem and the doctor had told her it's becase she could not tak hormone pills because she had cacer years ago. So the doctor had prescribed her a pill that took care of it. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about it. Hope this helps you.
