Is it too late for me?

It's been almost 7 months since my surgery. I've lost 96 lbs and feel great EXCEPT for one thing. I have not been diligent about exercise. Most of it's done on the weekend in the form of walking here, there, horse chores etc. But I really need to start toning. I even have this really great "shape up" book that goes over so many tone up exercises and I have my own treadmill and had a TV put in the room with it. So I have to start walking (I hate walking in my city BORING).

I know it's never too late to start walking but what about toning? Can I start it now and it actually work. I have bat wings and I think I would have them them even with toning but I have no muscle definition and at least that migh help even the tiniest bit.

Have I already screwd myself....or can I start now and see results?

And I always heard you can not tone everyday (weights etc) but every other day and how many reps should be done or how long to tone?

Thanks!!!

Babeeeeee, as far as I know, you can tone and build muscles at any time, any age, any phase of your life.

I used to think that only people who worked out in their teens would have a toned body. Nah! It's possible at any time.

Granted, there is not much we can do about the trouble skin areas, but as we fill it a bit with tone, it looks less flabby.

My batwings got much better when I started lifting weighs.

96lbs in 7 months that is AWESOME!

It's never ever too late! I bought cheap hand weights at Wal-Mart (the rubber coated ones). I started out with 2 pounds, moved up to 3, and now I use 5. I have 8's, but I'm not quite there yet. I deal with an exercise specialist with my program, not sure of her official title, but she has a bachelor's degree in exercise. She says 3 sets of 15 for each different exercise. Look online for a beginner at home program and it will give you examples of what to do. Definitely only do arm weights every other day.

Also, I LOVE my treadmill. I get up at 5 every morning to work out before the kids are up. I'm a stay at home mom, but I'm too tired to work out later in the day. The first two weeks were really hard, but now I wake up a few minutes before the alarm clock, turn on the coffee pot, start laundry and hop on the treadmill. I jog most of the time, but when I started I could only walk on zero incline on speed 2. I built up really fast.

I am right behind you and have been doing the same thing....not working out!!  LOL

I need to get my butt going and yes you can start working out anytime and you WILL see results.  It might take a little longer with our higher nutritional needs.

I will live each day in the mindful present

Its never too late Melissa...I guess that means I should start too. lol.

As far as the bat wings; I read something in Self magazine about crazy things you see on tv.  One of those things was the "Shake Weight" and they said it really does work for toning your arms.  I picked one up at Walmart a few days ago but I haven'****ched the dvd yet.  I hope its helpful.

You're weight loss has been phenomonal!!!  Congrats!!

Sure thing Linda.  I was kind of skeptical about paying $20.00 but since it had gottena  good endorsement in Self I thought I'd give it a try.

Melissa,
I don't hink it is ever too late to tone up and get more fit. I also HATED walking. I felt like I was investing so much time and burning so few calories. That is when I discovered the Couch to 5 K program. It mixes just walking with jogging. I found out I really liked that. (after a while when I could breathe again). Walking and running burn the same amount of calories per mile, about 100 for each for normal weight people. The difference is running burns those calories faster and I am very impatient.
Not pushing you to run at all, just wanted to say I love running and I hated walking.
If you are interested you can google couch to 5 K. I downloaded the podcasts and use those to tell me when to walk and when to run. I had to spend about a m  onth on the first "week" cuz i was in so bad of shape.

Thanks Cheryl.....you know, I;ve heard of that program. I will google it. You sound a lot like me. I want it done the fastest most calorie buning way possible. And I am impatient so that may be an option because I like the challenge. And I possibly will like the endorphin dump! lol. I really want to get toned and fit.
