My Plans for the Day were just shot to HELL

Well, yesterday was a "feeling pretty good day" and I must have been jacked up on my liquid Roxicet when I decided that Sunday would be the day I make my first trip out of the house ...(I got home from the hospital Wednesday night and haven't left it since).

Here was my plan:
7:00am- Wake up, start my breakfast and liquids
9:45 am- Go to church...I teach the 4 year Sunday School class and it only lasts from 10:00 to 10:45

11:00 am- home, lunch, rest a bit

1:00pm -go to the local mall for about an hour and help my daughter pick out a back to school outfit

2:00 - home and rest for the remainder of the day...

I didn't think that sounded too bad.....an hour at church then an hour at the mall with rest in between???

WELL, I was wrong.  I did great at Sunday School (got a little hot and clammy) but by the time we got home I was absolutely pooped!!!  I ate 2 oz of yogurt and 4 oz of water and fell dead asleep in my chair.  There's just NO WAY I can make the mall....of course it doesn't help that it's 110 degrees here in Georgia.    Is this normal???   I'm supposed to start my teacher preplanning days on Tuesday...these are really low-key days with no kids but I'm wondering if I'll be able to do it!!!  I have absolutely no energy!  I feel like a slug!

I know I'm not getting many calories right now, I'm hoping that starting "pureed", real foods on Wednesday will help my energy!!!

Peyton, your body has been abused...give it time to rest.

It will get better but don't pu****

You're just trying to do too much too fast. Take the rest of the week to rest, hydrate, get used to the food stages you're moving into. Have you started vitamins yet? What are you taking so far?

Gina, I just started on the vitamins two days ago but here's what I'm doing

Daily:
2  Bariatric Advantage Multis  (one in the am and one at  lunch)
1  B12 (AM)
1  Iron  (at bedtime)

The only thing I haven't started is the calcium....I bought the Bariatric Advantage Lozenges and I just can't quite do the chalky taste of them....plus they take forever to dissolve.  I think I'm going to have to order the "chews" instead (at least for the time being)

ok...so one of the things that we COMPULSIVE people are TERRIBLE at is taking care of ourselves and putting ourselves first...this surgery teaches us this sometimes for the first time in our lives. Because our bodies WILL NOT function after this surgery unless we let them rest when they need to...girlfriend it was a month before I was not napping in the afternoon and walking more than 15 minutes a day if that...don't beat yourself up and let your body heal...you may feel good but your body is completely traumatized and needs to recover...good luck...you'll be fine...SEAVIEW

I'm a teacher, too, so I understand how school districts work, but you may not be ready to hit the grjound running.  You just got your insides rearranged and your body is still trying to deal with that.  I originally took three weeks off thinking I would be fine to go back to work - I am the gifted specialist in a middle school and have job that is 80% paperwork and 20% kids [565 identified kids in my building out of 1100].  Boy, was I wrong.  I could barely get out of bed to use the bathroom at 4:45 am let alone start my day - I had to be on hall duty by 7:00 am and usually do not walk out before 4:00.  My PCP put his foot down and said that I needed to take at least two more weeks off and get stronger and he would not release me despite being released by the surgeon.  I listened, for a chang,e and took the time off and was amazed at how much better and stronger I felt at that 5 week mark.  I was able to go back full time and close out the year.

Listen to your body - you just had a wake up call that you are not quite ready to start life on full throttle quite yet.  Give it another week and you may be able to return to work and not be utterly exhausted at the end of the day.

Wow! Really seems like you are rushing things. I don't know your situation, but try not to pu**** too hard. You need time to recover. T

Peyton -- Girlfriend we need to talk! I totally understand.  My husband is a pastor so I debated whether I would go to church this am.  My mom was here and getting ready to go home, so I wanted her to get started on her 8 hour drive.  So... we went to our early service at 8:15.  I did OK getting ready and to church and thur the service. But I was wiped out.  I did not even do anything.  I took my water with me and got a few hugs from the limited friends that I have shared my surgery with.  Went home to wait for the rest of the family to get home for lunch. Then laid down and ended up taking a 3+ hour nap. Wow -- I gues I was really tired.

Hang in there.  Now I guess I am starting to understand why I keep reading the REST over and over again.  I guess none of us are use to resting to take time for ourselves.  But as the others have said... it is OK.

Hugs Lori
