I just read this article and it just makes me wonder with the malabsorption how the heck we are supposed to get our calcium without taking the "risky" supplement. Part of my reasoning for getting WLS is to better my chances of NOT ending up with a heart disease and early demise from a heart attack. Ugh.

Before getting all upset...

1) the article did not say WHICH calcium spplement was tested.
2) we see articles all the time about how something is bad for you and then later, it comes to light it actually is good for you.

There are two types of calcium...
Calcium (as Calcium Carbonate) is what MOST people use.
Calcium as Calcium Citrate is what Bariatrics with malabsorption issues need to take.

This is a crap-science "study" and I use the term, "study", lightly. It's all about headlines, babee.

I found a second article after that which was far more reassuring, basically they are talking about calcification of the arteries in older women and in the study the average age was like 74.

Lucky I posted about it though because I went to get stockpiled on vits last night and obviously had a brain lapse and ended up with Calcium Carbonate instead of citrate. I guess once I get past the first couple months I'll try using them up and do 1 of the Calcium Carbonate and the rest Calcium Citrate until I use them up.

Try and return them - you will not absorb enough of the calcium carbonate to make it worth keeping them and even using them occasionally.

Sorry.
