    OT Insurance Costs XPost

Because of my greedy asshole neighbor neighbors reporting a small fender bender on their $200 20 year old car that I hit last Nov. my insurance has tripled.  That said car BTW has since been junked due to the transmission breaking down.  I guess it wasn't worth fixing if it wasn't on my dime.  Anyway, before that my record was perfect and I had preferred rates.  Now my rates have tripled like I said.  Part of the problem was an accident my daughter got in while under my insurance that was reported as being by me.  I got that straightened out hoping that would drive the cost down but it is still very high.  So basically I have a clean record except that fender bender and a claim on my insurance's towing for $30,  and they canceled me because of those things.  I am guessing the fact that my credit isn't perfect contributes to the high cost.  I am never late on a payment but I did file for bankruptcy several years ago.
Anyway, I am shopping around for insurance.  Does anyone have any insurance company they can recommend?  Some place that won't take your first born child for a payment?  I checked with places like GEICO and they want something like $200 a month for basic state limits.  I am honestly thinking of giving up my license between gas prices and insurance costs.  I was only paying about $60 a month before my neighbors decided that Christmas came early for them.
And please, don't lecture me about how I damaged their car and they  have a right to get paid, blah, blah, blah.  They really only paid $200 for it because he is a tow truck driver.  If he had a right to be compensated they should have gotten their money back for  that piece of **** car that they went and fixed because it was a "classic".  Yeah, it was such a classic that they didn't want to put the money into fixing it when the trannie went out when it wasn't coming out of someone else's pocket.
ps If you live in Portland, Oregon and can recommend an ethical insurance agent that would be great.

Tazz, i don't have any suggestions because all that is state related.  but I did spend hours and hours last week and the week before dealing with insurance and I know how frustrating it can be.  They were going to cancel my homeowners, because of other issues in NC not related to my home at all. I've been with this company for 30+ years.  Then they would keep it if I added my cars, which I ended up doing, then there was the whole thing about the business using the house and the cars, but I have have other insurance for that.  Anyway.  It was horrible and frustrating and expensive.  I feel your pain.

Doesn't it seem like it was so much simpler back in the "olden days" - when insurance wasn't pushed down your throat for every little thing?

I have Geico - but it depends on the state.  Here in Va its relatively cheap - in Michigan its ridiculous (no fault (MI) vs at fault (VA))  They outprice themselves in Michigan because they don't want to deal with it.

Try to find an insurance agent that handles a bunch of companies - it's tough!  I just went through that for house insurance - it can get overwhelming trying to find the perfect one.

Tazz, good luck...we've stayed with USAA since I qualified in the early 80's. It's not an easy task to find a policy.

Tazz, hope you can find a decent rate with a good company.  We have State Farm and I'm pretty sure it is probably too high, but we have had them forever and just don't want to change.  The service we always get has been great through our rep.

We did have to deal with GEICO at my work because someone hit something outside our building and they had GEICO insurance - I was very surprised that it was extremely easy to file the claim and get the payment.  Everything was done with 2 weeks!!

    Good luck.
