Was wondering if anyone out there has BCBS Federal and did you barely make the BMI requirements because you are a lightweight? My BMI was 38 and I have co-morbidities Type II Diabetes, HBP, Sleep Apnea. I have to meet with the Nutritionist for 90 days. My last first appointment with the Nutritionist was July 13, the next will be August 14, September 14, October 16.

I hope that I don't go below my BMI 35 or I will not qualify. Has this happened to anyone out there?

My doctor said BCBS Federal looks at your BMI from your initial visit to the doctor only.

Thanks for sharing.

Which insurance do you have? My nutritionist gave me a daily log to write everything that I ate during each meal and 2 snacks. To stick with high protein, veggies and fruit, no carbs. Also to log my water/vitamin intake and exercise 3 times a week at least for 30 minutes. She told me that I must lose but don't go under the 35 BMI or I won't qualify.

Thanks for your input.

Best wishes to you!

Welcome and Thanks for posting on our LW Board!!!

We have BCBS but it isn't Federal. My Surgeons office used my very first weigh in to turn in to the insurance but I was required to get weighed every month for 6 months and I wasn't allowed to gain. I also had to have proof that I tried to loose weight but couldn't keep it off. I tried WW soooo many times so that was an easy thing to prove. I think most of us have the same problem. We can "diet" and loose weight but it's keeping it off that's the problem.

I lost 1 pound every month for a total of 6 of pounds lost. Ask your Surgeon (his office person might know more than him/her) if they use the first weigh-in and if you will still qualify if you loose to much.

Hi Roz, Thanks for the welcome!!!

I posted here several years ago. Then I just stopped coming on line for a while. You did so well losing 1 pound month for 6 months. I am really going to do my best to do the same for the 4 visits I have. It might be 90 days because this will be a revision. What state do you live in? I live in Oklahoma.

Thanks for your reply. I will keep you all posted on my journey.

My insurance used my first weigh-in. However I had a 35 BMI at my last official weight prior to submission, so my surgeon did an unofficial weight for anesthesia just to be sure there were no problems with getting the insurance to pay. My weight dropped to 185 during the pre-op restricted diet.

Hi Liz,

Yes that's what I was told by my surgeon, they use the first weigh-in. I guess I am just worried that I will be below the 35 and that might disqualify me. Do you have BCBS Federal?

Thanks for replying.

No, but hopefully your surgeons office has worked with them before and know what is needed.
