Oh, goodness, Gina.  I just searched and found out what happened.  I'm SO sorry!  I didn't know.  Depression is a terrible illness, and I'm so sad that Dee's struggle overwhelmed her.  I will pray for everyone who knew and loved her...
Topic: RE: MajorMom, where are SusieWong and JuneCleaver?
Wait!  What happened to ValleyGirl!?!  She was doing great!  Oh my gosh!  What did I miss?  We were very close in our dates and PM'd each other until I dropped off to take care of family issues...Oh, I'm so sad!  What happened!?!
Topic: RE: MajorMom, where are SusieWong and JuneCleaver?
Did they disappear, or are they just lying low?
    Topic: RE: Lower BMI....any regrets?
I am two years post-op, 5'4" and 140 lbs.  I was 236, BMI 39.3 when I started.  I CAN tell you that there have been a few times I have doubted my decision, but 99% of the time, I am very glad I did it.  I have had to have other surgeries (not related), and the meds I could take were limited by my RNY.  Also, I dump, which has its good and bad sides.  It keeps me in check, but sometimes I miss being able to enjoy dessert with my family.  However, these are the only doubts/regrets I have, and I would not change a thing now.  The benefits of losing those 100 pounds have far outweighed (excuse the pun) the very few negatives.  I just want to be honest and realistic with you.  You will have moments when you will doubt your decision or wonder if what you did was the right thing, but my experience has been that 99% of the time, I am sure that I made the right choice.  I hope this helps you.

    Topic: RE: Constipation HELP!
Okay, I hope you're ready for this...it may be TMI...
(I just had a hysterectomy three weeks ago, and I'm 2 years out from RNY.) So, the pain meds (Darvocet/Tylenol) are causing me some constipation.
I'm taking 3 colace every day,and that helps some, but not enough every day.
So, sometimes I take a magnesium
oxide because that's what I use to balance my iron (which I'm not taking right now, because I'm already constipated enough...I'll survive a couple of weeks, and I have new lab work coming out Monday, anyway, so that will tell me where to go with the iron...) Anyway... So, I normally run a low blood pressure (110/70 is ideal for me, but typically, I'm around 100 or 90 over 60) This makes me a little dizzy sometimes, but it seems to be my normal. Here's my worry: I've heard that magnesium can lower blood pressure, and after taking it, I'm dizzy even when I lie down. Is there anything ELSE I can take for constipation that works as well? The second problem is that I regularly (like every few days or so) get an ache that feels like it is in my colon/rectum right behind where my cervix used to be. It feels like my plumbing is kinked and nothing can get past that spot. Do you think it is swelling from my surgery that's pushing on my intestines? Or, do any of the rest of you have this? I've had it before when I was extremely constipated and pooped rocks, which is what I'm doing now, even WITH the mag oxide and colace. Any advice? I'm getting desparate!
Topic: RE: Need Poop Help (thought that might get some attention!) LOL!
Well, we'll find out!  I'm tired of this!  LOL!
Topic: RE: Need Poop Help (thought that might get some attention!) LOL!
LOL!  Yep, that's what I meant!  That's so funny now that I read it!  All these pain meds are making me loopy!  So, yes, magnesium oxide.  Can I take that after having taken colace three times today already?  Will it work quickly?
Topic: RE: Need Poop Help (thought that might get some attention!) LOL!
Hi, all!  I'm still chugging along and maintaining my loss (2 years out on the 31st--HURRAY!)  Anyway, I have a different sort of problem that I'm thinking some of you may be able to help me with...I am three days out from a hysterectomy and bladder sling (Dr said everything looks good, so no worries there), BUT I'm so constipated I can't stand it.  I'm taking Colace 3 times/day, but it's not helping.  Can I take Magnesium Citrate WITH Colace?  Does anyone know?
Topic: RE: taking all my vitamins together
I will definitely check out the fusion vitamins!  Thanks!

Majormom, thanks for the research!  Numbers don't lie!  I will try your suggestion...

Topic: RE: taking all my vitamins together
Sorry, yes, I do take calcium in the morning, too.  I take it in the morning and at night.  I just have the worst time remembering to take anything from the time I leave the house until I crash in bed at night.  So, I'm actually getting 1200/day of calcium each day.  I'm good about eating LOTS of calcium-rich foods, although, I realize we don't absorb all of that, either...

I may try this iron you're talking about.  It sounds like it might work better for me.  It still can't be taken with calcium, though?  Or, is it okay with calcium, too?
Topic: RE: taking all my vitamins together
I'm having a complete hysterectomy (with a few other repairs) in March, so I'm trying to make sure I"m as healthy as possible (with nice iron levels) before I go in!
Topic: RE: taking all my vitamins together
Does it bother your tummy?  Are you saying you can take it with other vitamins without canceling out the iron?
Topic: RE: taking all my vitamins together
Yah, I'm having iron problems, and that's why I'm getting more info on this.  If it is only a small difference in absorption, I'm not worried, but if it is that we don't absorb ANY when taken with other vitamins, I will definitely MAKE myself spread it out, etc...  I absolutely own this and know it's up to me to decide how healthy I want to be, so I'm just trying to get all the info as I decide how to handle my vitamins.  :)  Thanks for the help!
Topic: RE: taking all my vitamins together
So, do you know how much less we get?  I mean, if we only get 70% of the iron or something like that?  I'm still trying other methods (like the alarm clock--got an app for my iphone called "vitaminder," but even with that, I don't always do it!)  So, I just want to know how big of a deal it is...
    Topic: RE: Saggy Baggy butt
Spanx, good jeans, and don't look.  That's what I do.  :)
    Topic: RE: Foamies?
That sound like dumping from fat.  I dump from sugar and from fat, but the experience is different.  When I dump from fat, I get very nauseas and want to throw up.  When I dump from sugar, I just knock out asleep after having diarrhea or sometimes not, but I always have to go to sleep.  Anyway, it may be that you got an overdose of fat...
Topic: RE: taking all my vitamins together
I know we're supposed to not take iron with certain other vitamins (can't remember which ones), but I've found the only way I actually remember to take it is if I take it WITH my breakfast and other vitamins in the morning.  So, I'm wondering if anyone has done the research on how much it affects absorption.

I mean, do we absorb on 70% of X if we take it with Y, etc...

    Does anyone know?

I DO take my Calcium ALONE before bed at night, but the iron, multi, B-complex, B-12, B-1, A, D3, E, and iron all get taken together in the morning.

Topic: RE: Iron isn't the problem...hmmmm...

That's a great list!  Thank you so much!  I just realized, yes, it was the hemoglobin number.  I thought hemoglobin WAS iron.  You would think after two years, I'd have this down!  UGH!  Thanks for the help!
Topic: RE: Iron isn't the problem...hmmmm...
So, I went in to the obgyn and found out that my uterus is prolapsed.  UGH!  So, we have a few more tests to see if my bladder is also and to make sure everything else looks okay, but at this point, I'm probably looking at a uterine sling or hysterectomy and bladder sling.  BUT THAT'S NOT the problem.  I have been thinking all this time that I was so tired because my iron is low, but when I went to the doctor, she said my iron is 12.5.  That's normal, right?  So, go figure!?!

I still need to get ALL of my labs run, but it is hard to find a doctor who gets it with GB.  They all roll their eyes when you ask for all those blood tests!
Topic: RE: Not sure who to ask, so I'm coming back "home"...
Thanks, everyone!  I went to the obgyn today, and the doctor ordered an ultrasound and a voiding cystourethrogram.  She did the normal exam, and she said her "blind" opinion (without the test results) is that my uterus has prolapsed forward and is lying on top of my bladder.  This is what it feels like, so I'm thinking this is probably the case.  The ultrasound is Thursday (to make sure there's nothing else going on and to see if my bladder may be prolapsed as well), and the cystourethrogram is in two weeks (to make sure everything is working correctly in my bladder).  My next appt with the doctor is Feb 3rd, and at that time, we'll go over all of the test results and makes some decisions.  I may go to another doctor to get another opinion, as well.  If it is a prolapsed uterus, she said they can do surgery to suspend it back in place.  I've done some reading and understand that typically it will need to be redone in ten years AND I may have to limit activity that could put additional strain on it (like heavy lifting and running).  So, I may just tell them to take it out.  It's not like I need it anymore, anyway.  LOL!  We'll see though.  That decision is a ways off.  :)  Thanks for the help, everyone!  :)Michelle
Topic: RE: Not sure who to ask, so I'm coming back "home"...
I will.  I am waiting for a friend to call back tomorrow and give me the name of a good GYN.  I just hope it is simpler than that!  I'm leaning toward a prolapsed bladder or uterus, but we'll see...
Topic: RE: Not sure who to ask, so I'm coming back "home"...
This is encouraging.  I don't like urologists either, because they are all male and ...whatever... (as you said!  LOL!)  I'm getting a referral for a gynecologist from a friend.  I just wonder how difficult it would be to find one who is also familiar with wls???
Topic: RE: Not sure who to ask, so I'm coming back "home"...
Yes, I agree that I need to see an OBGYN and/or a Urologist.  I'm divided on whether it is a bladder issue or a uterus issue.  So, I'm not sure whether to start with a GYN or Urologist.  I'd rather see a GYN because I can find a female one, but if it's a Urology issue, I don't want to go through a lot of trial and error on GYN issues, kwim?  It seems that there should be a specialty that deals with the entire lower pelvis of women...LOL!  So much is inter-related, anyway!
Topic: RE: Not sure who to ask, so I'm coming back "home"...
Thanks, Gina! I know it isn't a bladder infection, because I've had those before.  I'm just looking for ideas, and usually a gathering of (mostly) women is a good place to get ideas.  LOL!
Topic: RE: Not sure who to ask, so I'm coming back "home"...
Hi, everyone!  I'm not on as much as I used to be, but this is the place I've always found answers, so I thought I'd see if any of you have any ideas for what might be going on with me...

Background:  I'm almost 2 years out from RNY, no problems except low iron, which is coming up now that I"m following Vitalady's advice...

The problem:  I'm having pain and pressure, almost like a heaviness in my bladder/uterus area.  I'm not sure where exactly the pain is centered, but it feels very much like heavy menstrual cramps.  It is pretty constant and is relieved somewhat when I pee, so I'm peeing every hour or two.  This has been going on and getting worse for a few months.  I'm 37 and have had three kids.  The paid is starting to interfere with my daily life.

Yes, I know I need to go to the doctor, but I'd like to get an idea of what it could be. Any ideas??
