You are my twin. 5'3'' 201lbs at my initial surgeons consult. I am having VSG on Monday June 26th. We can be battle buddies. I know it is the right thing for me to do. I have to get the band out of my body but know I will eat out of control with no restriction. We can do this and will be much healthier a year from now.

Thanks guys. I have been told I carry my weight well. No one ever believes me when I tell them I am 200 lbs. 200 at 5'3'' is not good for me. It's nice to know I have somewhere to turn if I need the support.

Hello LWs. I went to a nutrition meeting this morning at my clinic ad kind of felt guilty or something for being there. I was the smallest person in the room besides the RDN giving the class. It was almost like I shouldn't be here. I can do this with out revision. Just get the band out and move forward. But I have gained most of my weight back even with the band due to not being able to hold down dense protein. I have gone back to carbs and soft foods that I know will not come right back up. Anyway I felt like everyone was staring like I didn't need to be there. maybe its all in my head and the witch in my head just wants me to feel like I'm fine and I do not need to lose any weight and am good the way I am. UUGGG Am I the only LW that has felt this way?

Topic: RE: 4'10"/ 205 lbs/ 42.6 BMI / tricare prime...what to expect?
I have tricare as well and was told I had to be 100#s over weight or they would deny. I was about 15 pounds shy of that and tried to gain a little before my consult appt. well I didn't ain but like 2 #s it the 6 weeks before that appt but I added a few things to help me add lbs. like D batteries in my bra. I also held on to my purse while weighing and passed the 100 by 1lb 6 oz..  ~~Amy

Hey everyone! I have ben trouble with my internet and unable to post. Thanks so much for the info. I called and talked to moondancer this am and that was soooooo helpfull. I have been trying to decide between LB and RNY. I know I can cheat either one if I do not change my mindset. I think I am just going to go to the seminar and see what he has to say! I called his office today to see for sure and they confirmed that he is only doing the band now but we very nice about referring me to another surgeon if that is what I wanted! I will keep you all posted!!! Thanks again for everything!!~~ Amy

OK so I have been waiting to go to the surgeons seminar for 6 weeks!! I just found out this weekend he only does Lap band! I have been planning on RNY. Do do I plan on still going to the seminar or call my insurance and get a ref to a different surg? I'm so frustrated because it feels like I have been waiting forever just to geta consult appt! I am really scared that the lapband will not work. Ad I know banders have to see the doc more often. I am a military spouse and may move around every3-4 years or so and would have to find a new doc everywhere I went!!!!

ok i'm feeling a bit better. I considered myself a medium frame but i did the elbow measurement and i am a small frame. woohoo. that means i am only 5 pounds from the 100#. Who would have ever thought I want to be 100#s overweight.  I have tried losing it on my own and I know I will not keep it off unless I have the help!! Thans everyone.

I have to attend a seminar on Oct 31. I'm not sure if they do weights and so on that day. Maybe I can gain another 5 lbs byt then. I guess I will just have to weight and see.

So I looked at the tricare site. It does not mention BMI at all. This is what it says.

Gastric Bypass

TRICARE covers gastric bypass, gastric stapling and gastroplasty to include vertical banded gastroplasty and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (Lap-Band surgery) is covered only when the beneficiary meets one of the following conditions:

  • Is 100 pounds over ideal weight for height and bone structure and has one of these associated conditions: diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cholecystitis, narcolepsy, Pickwickian syndrome, hypothalamic disorders or severe arthritis of the weight-bearing joints
the other condition is to be 200%or more over ideal body weight. Which I'm not.  I have high BP and cholesterol. chronic back pain, hypothyrodism, some depression and possible sleep apnea! But I am not 100 pounds over weight so I am scared they will say no!

I have tricare and I keep hearing that I have to be atleast 100#S over my ideal weight. Someone posted that Tricare does not go by BMI but by the met life table. According to that I am 17 #s away from being at the 100 mark. My BMI is 36.5 and I have comorbidities. I just wonder if I should try to gain that 17 pounds. But then what if the still do not approve me I'm stuck with another 20 pounds that I will most likely not be able to lose!!!!!
