Topic: Xpost from Preggo Board: Hernia Repair during C-Section?
I have a large lower hernia that developed after having my daughter, but the OB/GYN told me it was "nothing" (I don't go to her anymore).  I found out during my lap RNY that it was indeed a large hernia, but was too close to the bowels for them to feel comfortable repairing at the time.

I had thought of holding out and having a tummy tuck at the same time - around 18 mos post-op.  But now that I'm PG and that softball lump is protruding more, I'm wondering if it's possible to have it repaired during the c-section?

Anyone have any experience with pre delivery hernias and what did you/will you do?

Thanks!

Jo

Topic: RE: breast feeding after weight loss surgery
My son was a little over 12 months old when I had my VSG. He is still breast feeding at two. I'm hoping I can wean him in January while I'm away getting my plastic surgery. I enjoy breast feeding, but he wants to nurse anytime I sit down. Any tips on weaning. I weaned my older child at 3 by getting pregnant. I think some women produce a lot more milk. Anytime I try to stop with the nursing I get so engorged and it is so painful.

Topic: RE: having children after surgery
I had my surgery Feb. 2005 and my first baby Nov. 5 2007. He is 7 months old now and I am the exact weight that I was before I got pregnant. I gained 40 pounds during pregnancy but it really came off easily - despite the fact that I did eat a lot of junk while pregnant. Shame on me! It was a bit nerve wracking watching the scale go up and up but you just have to remind yourself that it is for the baby and it is temporary. Best of luck to you! Bekki

Topic: RE: Anti-depressants after gastric by-pass
Star- My suggestion to you is to SPEAK WITH YOUR PHARMACIST, the pharmacy that gave you the medicine. They go to school for a LONG time & know what works in your body & how it all breaks down!! Seriously, I worked in a pharmacy, and they have more knowledge than your doctor. Please call them!! -Jamie

Topic: Anti-depressants after gastric by-pass
AHHHHH!!! I'm so angry. Ok I'm almost 3yrs post op and I understand that some people still don't understand about the gastric by-pass and how even this far out we aren't allow to take certain things. BUT A DOCTOR??? There's no excuse for that. Ok here's my issue. I went to my psychiatrist today and tried for the third time to get on a good anti-depressant. First they had me on Effexor XR (Yep extended release which if you don't know.. we aren't allowed to take)... they changed me to the regular Effexor and after about a year it stopped working so well. Then they decided, hey.. lets try her on a bi-polar med, maybe she's bi-polar. HA! That only made things worse. I was more depressed than I've been in a long while. So, I go back in today and was all excited when he prescribed me Cymbalta. I get home and start looking at the bottle.. guess what?? Its delayed release. Can't take it either. GRRR!! So I tried to call them.. and do they answer?? Nope! Left a message.. ya know what though.. if I was to guess I won't be able to get anything til my next appointment in 6 weeks. Those of you suffering from depression know how wonderful that's going to be... -grumbles- Anyhow, I just needed a place to rant where people could understand. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Well, if you are and you like music from the 80's with a funny and educational spin, then did I find a DVD/CD combo for you! It isn't annoying and is kinda funny even if they couldn't find a country that starts with the letter X. Read my review and watch the videos and you will understand what I mean! http://luvsexytrstno1.blogspot.com/2008/04/here-comes-a-b-c-s-by-they-might-be.html

Topic: breast feeding after weight loss surgery
I am curious, how many other women have done this besides myself? To be fair, Lilith (my daughter) had already started on solids before my surgery (she was 8 months old). I would never recommend giving a baby only breast milk right after the mother has had weight loss surgery unless it is suplemented with food and/ or formula. I remember my milk was so thin right after surgery that I knew it was almost devoid of the necessary fats a baby needs but it became thicker and I got my volume back at about 3 months post op. I took Reglan right after my surgery and pumped in the hospital to maintain my milk supply. I was fortunate that on my physicians team of experts, he had a nutritionist who was also a nurse midwife! She was only too willing to help me in my choice to keep breastfeeding. She was the one who prescribed the reglan. I was the only patient my physician had ever known that was able to keep their milk. I want to know if there are others out there that have done this and what their experience was like.

Topic: New here
Hopefully we can start this board up and running. Let me start by introducing myself. I am Denise. We, me and dh, ttc for over 10 years and finally got our miracle baby girl oct 27th 2007. we were thrilled. I always swore I would NOT be 40 having a baby and GOD showed me different. lol lol I was 39 when I had her and turned 40 in Dec. I would LOVE to start trying for number 2 but I am scared as I am just enjoying her so much. Although I dont have much time to put off waiting to decide. Need to make my mind up and fast. lol lol I have or will have TONS of question possible every day. regarding feeding, sleep habits ect and so on. So lets try and get this board up and running. Right now we are having acid tummy problems. We are currently on .4 well just got upped to .8 axid twice a day. the .4 was working perfectly for about 3 weeks and then the problems started back. Hopefully since we started the.8 last night we will see a change. We are on enfamil lipil and I am always willing to take any and all coupons you may get that you dont need. lol lol Take care, Denise

Ditto what Lena said!!! I only gained 17 (and believe me, I was EATING ALOT!!!!) and I lost about 25 with the breastfeeding. Your hormoes help you eat during pregnancy --I think-- and then your pouch will restrict you after you have you new baby. Have a GREAT pregnancy!!!! -Jamie

Hi Elizabeth!! First of all...breathe!! 12 pounds is great at 5mos. I think you have been on the preggo board too...you will notice that the weight gain varies. Lots of folks have gained way more than you. You WILL notice that you can eat more!!! It is strange but definitely normal! I will tell you, by the time my daughter was born it had been well over 24 hours since I had eaten a thing and I was RAVENOUS!!! When they brought me food I just knew I was going to demoli****!! You know what I ended up eating? About 1 1/2 chicken fingers and maybe 6 fries and I was done!! Your pouch 'snaps' back to what it was before. I noticed increased restriction right away. I was 'lucky' as far as my pregnancy weight gain...I gained about 15 pounds, and lost 24 after she came. So for some reason I got a 'bonus' 10 pounds off!! YAY She will be 2 in June and I am still keeping it off. It can be done! If you make good eating choices (for the most part) you should be fine!!!

Weighed 365 pounds, went down to 205 after wls, now I weigh 217. Going on my fifth month of pregnancy, have gained 12 pounds and i know i have more to go. I am horrified that when I have my baby in august I wont be able to lose the weight I've gained during pregnancy. I have been eating a lot more than before, and that's another reason why i'm freaking out, that the appetite i have now will stay the same after the birth. I had a miscarriage before and my husband thought it was because I wasnt eating enough due to the surgery. How did you deal with all the weight gain during pregnancy and after pregnancy? This is my very first pregnancy and I need help! appreciate it!

Topic: Over 3 weeks so far!!!!!
Hunter was in his big-boy bed 3 weeks on friday!!!! We took down his crib & now there is just his bed & dresser in his room. Now, the next big step is getting his bed up on a frame, and finding a stool for him to use. Once his bed is up on a frame, it will be TOO TALL for him to get up & down on easily, so he will definately need a stool. But he is doing SO WELL!!!! Just had to update!! -Jamie

Topic: RE: WOW!!!!!! Out of his crib!!!
Hunter had a BALL on Christmas, he is now a "professional" at unwrapping gifts!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!! Ya, how about that????!!!! Someone who LOVES & CHERISHES their in-laws!!! I wish they lived here in Alaska, or us nearer to them. Mark's mom & dad JUST LOVE their grandkids to pieces!!!! My mom, was a GREAT mom, always tried to be there when we were growing up (she was a single mom) But, now, she ""falls short"" on being the grandmother roll. (She lives here in Alaska, 15 minutes from my sister & 30-45 from my house) I understand.............. to a point. She doesn't work at a job, she has rentals, and will do flips & remodels, but, she has the ability to be flexible & chooses often to IGNORE my sister, me & all 4 of her grandboys. Sorry, I shouldn't rag about my mom, but, having Mark's mom & dad here, I tend to compare. Sure would be nice if some of the post-op pregnancy gals would post over here too!!! I know it is the old format, but there is NOTHING I can do about that!!!! I have never posted on the Alaska board. I just want to brag on my boy, that's all, plain & simple!!!! Ya, hard to believe, I am going to be starting to talk second birthday's with you, being as Nate & Hunter are SO DARN close!!!! I knew when Hunter was 6 months what theme I wanted for his very first birthday!!!!!! Think I'll get a catlog from Birthday express & another from Oriental Trading Company to look. I think he is too young yet for the "military-hunting" theme this year, anyways. -Jamie
