So do you have to follow the diet and maintain the weight for a year or can you get approved as soon as you've lost the ten percent of your body weight?

No I haven't gotten my approval yet for surgery.  I have finished up my 12 months of contacts with my pcp, and she has submitted the paperwork.  But I have not heard from Dr. Shin's office yet.  I have called and left messages, but no one has gotten back with me.  It is extremely frustrating to not know what is going on.  I hope you are having better luck.

I was just curious what your status was...if you had the surgery etc.  I'm in my 9th month follow through with my pcp.  Having a hard time losing the 10% also.

Hello,
I just wanted to let people know   there is a forum for the community and anyone who is friendly and want to stop by. I was very active 3 years ago and would like to see it become active again.   It is listed under  "weight loss related"

I am not attempting to offend anyone. I understand that some might not agree with me posting. I am doing it to help LGBT people. Everyone has the right to not agree. I respect that.

I've been reading your post and excited for you. When is your surgery scheduled for?  I'm starting the process.  What kind of insurance did you have?

Topic: Support Group for Spouses

Hi, my name is Sissy.  I am new to the OH group.  My husband had surgery approximately three weeks ago.  I am wondering if there are any support groups in the Charleston area for individuals whose spouses have had sugery?  I feel a little lost and still am going through a wide range of emotions currently.  Thanks in advance.

Trying to help my husband post-surgery and lose weight myself

Topic: RE: From initial consult to surgery w/ Dr. Nease?
I went to my first semainar in October and had  surgery in April. My insurance did not have a wait period but I wanted to wait until the holidays were over (I have a now-8 year old). Then I had problems scheduling the time off of work and had to wait till after March to schedule the surgery. I still have no regrets...only that I didnt do it sooner!

Topic: RE: Medicaid and the Health Plan
Just in case anyone comes here, interested in this, I wanted to post that I fwas told by Dr. Akkary's office that the Health Plan doesn't cover bariatric surgery. I have changed to UniCare, which I am told does. I go to see Dr. Akkary next month, after the change in HMOs takes place. Wish me luck!

Thank you. I've done everything. My insurance has sent them the approval. Now I'm just waiting for the call that will tell me my surgery date. When they called to set up your surgery date, how many weeks was it from the day of the call?

first you have to go to a seminar and then they will schedule you an appointment and then your psych eval. and then you have to take a nutritional class and then after that they will schedule your surgery. before surgery you will have a class w the nurse and then an appointment with him... now there making me do a 2 day liquid diet before surgery my surgery is oct.3 Best of luck

I called for Jackie about two weeks ago and was told she was out of the office. Vicky called me and let me know she would be out for a couple of weeks. Usually a call gets returned immediately. From the time I took the nutrition class, I had surgery about 3 weeks later. Hope that helps.

Topic: Medicaid and the Health Plan
Anyone here have any experience with Medicaid / the Health Plan? That's what I have, and when I went to Dr. Akkary's seminar, I was told that they might require two six month diets before approving surgery. Will I really have to diet for a year before I can have my VSG??? The thought of such a long wait is pretty depressing.

Topic: Anyone here?
Hi! I'm Melody, and I'm just starting out on my journey with WLS. I attended Dr. Akkary's seminar last week, and am waiting to hear from Preston Memorial about my consultation. I don't know how long I'll have to wait for the appointment. I'm nervous and excited. I'm hoping to have the VSG.

I don't drive, so I am hoping to find someone attending Preston Memorial's support group willing to take me, as well. Morgantown is not a great place to live when you don't drive, but I can't imagine living anywhere else.
