How long did you guys wear your stage one garments, and did you buy stage two, how long did you wear those for?

Dr. Sauceda told me to wear the garments he provided for six weeks, 24/7.   I asked him why so many people seem to wear them longer.  He said it doesn't make any difference medically to wear them longer, some people just like to do it.

At six weeks I shed those garments.  I am living in Flexee (spanx knockoffs so cheaper but just as good) leggings and camisole.  At night I wear a tshirt to bed on top of the camisole to keep my arm incisions from rubbing on things.

I do not notice any more swelling with the flexee leggings than I did with the other garments.

The science behind the compression (in my thinking and from what I've read)  is that when the fat layer is removed, the skin has to adhere to the layer underneath to compress and keep an air pocket (or seroma) from forming.  Without the compression, our healing can be lumpy (for loss of a better word).

I am trusting Dr. S when he says that there is no medical reason to continue after six weeks.  I am wearing the spanx type thang because it keeps my swelling to a minimum.  I will be very curious to see what size changes happen as any residual swelling leaves my legs.  Maybe I'm not swollen at all, but who the heck knows at this point.  My left ankle (two seromas in my left leg that developed at almost six weeks) is a tad bigger than my right ankle.  But truth be told, I had major reconstructive surgery on that ankle 7/2008 so it just might be more apt to swell than the other one.

I hope this helps.  It will be great to read what others are doing.

Like Lee, I dropped those compression garments exactly at six weeks.  I couldnt stand them!..I too have purchased shapewear as a more comfortable alternative.  I do plan on wearing something called slimming sleeves on my arms for as long as I can.  It will help keep the silicon sheets in place and provide a layer of protection for me since my incisions on my arms are sensitive to touch.  Dont bother with stage 2 garments, from what I understand they are even tighter than stage 1 and Dr. S. said it's just a way for these companies to make extra money.

Where did you get the sleeves?  I put on the silicone strips at night and wear a tshirt to keep them in place.

At seven weeks I can really rub lotion into my arms without pain.  The last week showed huge improvement.

How are you feeling Carolina?

Hi Lee!  I am doing well ty.  I get the slimming sleeves from legluxe, or amazon .com.  They are quite expensive though at almost $120 dollars.  But they appear to be everything that I want without the compression material or snaps, fasteners or whatever else.  I will see, they are on their way.   I will update soon. I have just been very busy with work, then I got sick with a sinus infection.  The weather here is crazy. Today it was 69 degrees! and its Feb. 1st!   My body just doesnt know what to do. Its hot here obe day then cold the next.  Hope all is well with you too.

Thanks Carolina.  Having just lost my job, I'll forego the expensive sleeves.  But please let me know how they work in case I need to go that route later.

I stayed in my compression garment for 3+ months as it felt good.  I weaned myself to every other day and then went without, but about 5-6mo out I started wearing it at night due to swelling.  I'm still wearing it at night with a sports bra.  I did get out of the bra/sleeve compression garment about 3mo as it was annoying.

Rubbing lotion into your scars will help desensitize the scars so that you'll be able to touch them and not have them react to clothes or touch.  I try to put lotion on 2x/day.

It will be interesting to see if I get swelling further out.  For now I'm doing ok.

I rub in lotion 2-3x a day.  In some areas I put silicone strips at night.

 Hi Lee,

I haven't had plastics yet, but I use these when I workout to keep my arms from flapping around.    (After losing 205 lbs, I've got some serious flapping issues.....)  Anyway, check them out; they're inexpensive and work great!

Hi Lauren,

First CONGRATULATIONS on sheding 205 pounds.  That is seriously amazing!!!

Thanks for this link.  I didn't even think to google flexee arms.  I googled arms and came up with the Spanx but can't spend the money right now.

Have you found anywhere that carries these in Black.  I'll order the nude but would prefer the black.

Thanks so much for posting this.

Are you thinking about using Dr. Sauceda?  You would be thrilled!!

Thanks Lee.  It's been a lot of hard work, but SO worth it!  I've got about 15 more pounds to go, but I'm determined to get there!  I actually HAVE these sleeves in black; I got them at Kohl's a few months back for 7 bucks!  Super great clearance sale!  I checked and they don't currently have them, but you never know, they might get them again.  I'm TOTALLY going to have Dr. Sauceda do my plastics.  I'll be in Vegas to meet you all and have a consultation, and most likely will have the surgeries done in December (that's the best time for me to be off work).  I will need exactly the same procedures you had...that's why I've been following your journey and taking notes.  :)
If I come across the sleeves in black, I'll be sure to let you know....

Take Care!

Lauren

Counting the minutes until I do not have to wear mine anymore. I bought a few cute shaper items Flexee items, but I am hoping that since I have had no swelling issues since the second week, that I will be clear of compression garments forever!

I have been researching scars nd compression.  One thing that my flexee leggings do is keep me very warm. Supposedly, the warmth is really good for scar healing, so I will keep wearing them.

I do flexee during the day and silicone at night.

At least that's what I'm trying to do.  :)
