I had a gastric sleeve almost five years ago......my weight has been pretty stable until I got an IUD inserted for birth control.  Now my weight is ballooning.  I need help with basics and coming up with a new plan to help with these hormones......any suggestions?

If you think the weight gain is due to the IUD, I would seriously think about another form of birth control...but that is just me. You obviously know maintenance pretty well if you lost all your weight and were able to keep it off for 5 years. Good for you!

Hi! I think I saw this posted on another page so hopefully you have received more dietary help by now.  I don't know of a way to "help with these hormones" from a food standpoint.  I am a maintenance newbie.

But, as a pharmacist, I did want to comment that weight gain is not common with Mirena.  It can be confusing to search out this information on your own unless you have your own access to professional medical resources.

The hormone in Mirena has relatives that are very well known to cause massive weight gain when they are injected as a different form of birth control.  Many non-professional drug resources will lump entire drug families together when they list possible drug side effects so it is sometimes difficult to tease out more nuanced information.

That doesn't mean that YOU aren't having an atypical reaction.  That is always possible and I want to be respectful of your experience.  Like Paula, if I really thought it was from the Mirena I would probably have it pulled if adjustment of your calories/diet simply doesn't work anymore.  Although, it IS an excellent birth control method!

I am sorry you are going thru this and I wish you well as you puzzle it out!
