136.2 - down the gained pound even without a big trip to the bathroom. Didn't log the last half of day yesterday, so no macros.

Will only work 1/2 a day today. DH has been having a problem with hiccups while eating and it has progressively gotten worse over the last month. He had an esophogram on Wednesday which showed "a problem" with his lower esophagus and we are scheduled to meet with his PCP later this morning and then he is scheduled to have an EGD this afternoon. I'm pretty worried about what the findings were/will be. Prayers appreciated.

Prayers for your DH Paula. Hoping it turns out to be nothing bad.

No weight today (DS in bedroom with scale), calories 1385. Met friends for dinner last night and had one too many glasses of wine because they came late - doesn't take much alcohol these days to feel impaired. SIL drove my car back home afterwards.

Saw a Medicare attorney on Wednesday. She recommended DH giving me power of attorney now while he is capable. Also a few other minor things right now, but no need to do anything with joint assets at this point. I don't know what DH reaction is going to be.  He did a POA with his mother before her dementia got bad but she was in her late eighties at that point. With the paranoia he has had off and on I don't know if he will be okay with this.

Still mulling options on continuing to work. This won't be a quick decision. I'm going to discuss it with our financial guy on Monday.

Liz, this is not advice, just sharing what we've done thus far.

Hubby and I each have a "general POA" for each other and a separate "medical POA" for each other.  It's what our lawyer advised and what I had in place for my mom, who lived with us for 8.5 years with Alzheimer's.

Needless to say hubby's and my wills are up to date, and we've named both primary and contingent beneficiaries (if the primary beneficiary dies) for all our retirement funds and bank accounts; that was a little more complicated than we had imagined it would be.

Thanks Ann.  We have wills and medical, but the POA is the important thing now while DH can still agree to it.

Paula, lots of prayers.  Very long day yesterday including a site visit from a downtown manager.  My site (that would mean me and the other pharmacist)  is always on the edge of being in trouble for "going rouge."  But never fully in trouble because we are not wrong.

Liz, such difficult conversations.  I know you will find the words.

Linda, I was so impressed with your adherence to the protein shakes.  I would have done it home (and in front of DD) but wouldn't have stuck to it otherwise.   Did DD find benefit?

Momsie, just glad to see you here.

I need a self-care weekend.  Let's all find that.

Shel

* * *

Last night hubby and I went out to dinner with my sister and our niece.  Hubby and I were persuaded by a look at the salad bar to wolf down on veggies (I chose spinach leaves, edamame, grilled corn, red peppers, grilled broccoli).  I added some blue cheese, bacon bits and chili lime dressing.  I also ordered a small slice of grilled salmon to go on top of the salad.  It was great!

And after a glorious, warm few weeks, a cold front is moving in today.  Everything's budding out here, and now we'll have two nights in the low 20s.  Naturally.

Tomorrow night (Saturday) hubby and I are going to Mardi Gras party being thrown by friends who grew up in Louisiana.

We're also in close contact with other good friends who live in NOLA and are loving Mardi Gras especially this year - the floats, parties, and their kids who've brought their friends home to let the good times roll.  They learned yesterday that the father/husband's long-time cancer has spread rapidly, and there are no more treatment options left.  Their response?  Go to ALL the parades.

Pre-Lent meditation for today:  Life is short.  Lick the bowl!

Hey peeps, I've only been lurking here, didn't want to interupt your lovely caring supportive vibe but come on...that is just too good. "Life is short - lick the bowl". That my friends is going to get carved into my headboard.

Roxytrim -- isn't that fabulous!

Hubby has non-Hodgkins lymphoma and has been through brutal chemo/radiation treatments twice.  He's currently in remission.  In our daily lives we are SO licking the bowl!  And making extra icing.  :)

BTW, I didn't mention that another dear NOLA friend's 100-year-old father died two nights ago.  My friend threw a blow-out 100th birthday party for his dad last fall, and they licked the bowl clean!  However, they won't be going to the parades this weekend, but are sitting shiva.
