CARBON! Come out, come out! 10/16

Good morning!

No one has been here, yet, this morning! Let me tromp around and lay some tracks.

I see Willie the plastics/lymphedema guy this afternoon. Will be interesting.

Watched a Canadian sugar-is-bad documentary last night with DD. It was an assignment from her chemistry class. Nothing new in it for me but never hurts to hear (again) what processed foods are made of (snips and snails.....) And, I was THRILLED that DD was interested beyond taking notes.

Almost skipped my morning work out today because I wanted to stay in my warm bed in my dark bedroom. The weather has officially turned. No more sun.

Hug your skinny!

Shel

Shel, thanks for the early post today. I'll be interested to hear what you learn today from your plastics/lymphedema dude.

Last night I had the best sleep I've had in a week.

Yesterday's V/Fs totaled 9 (!) and came from carrots, tomatoes, chiles, beans, chard/spinach, butter lettuce, avocado, strawberries, and blueberries. Chocolate truffles were not on the menu. ?

Today is my monthly pilgrimage to the Big City. I'll see my therapist (timely!) and make the errand rounds. Best part is I get to pick up a new (old) moto-jacket at my favorite clothing consignment boutique, which I bought online a few weeks ago and they're holding for me.

It's a beautiful morning here -- 44 degrees, blue skies, and a big bright sun to keep ruminations at bay.

By the way, one of my favorite Bible verses goes like this: "This is the day the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Great mantra, eh?

Breathing deeply.

Ann--I do love that verse

Shel-I wish I could have a gray drizzly day AND stay in bed. Sounds positively yummy

165.6. Based on MFP I was 162.8 on the date of my last ob appt. My next one is Friday. I'm pretty sure that was home scale (I don't think I ever include Dr. scale on MFP). So my goal is to limit weight gain to 4lb./appt. So hopefully I'll meet that. I officially feel a baby bump, albeit small. It's so weird and different from fat. For now I don't mind it.

I need CARBON. Where are you, Carbon? I think my fitbit is just making me feel bad. I NEVER reach 10,000 steps unless I'm walking practically all day. Maybe I should change my goal to 5,000. Or stop wearing it (it is kind of ugly). But I do think ultimately it could be so useful to just walk more. But I live in a place where no one walks anywhere, I have an office job, and I wear heels to work...what to do! I know these are excuses but also honest questions.

DSS is being difficult again. I just hate his attitude towards us. Not only is he not appreciative for all that we do, we constantly hear about all the gripes he has about us to his mom (that his sister, the mole, reports back). I wish my husband could do the tough love thing. I honestly think his son needs it. And, yeah, there is a little bit of me that thinks "you think we're so bad??!! Well, don't let the front door hit you on your way out." I never would've thought it, but DSD living with her mom was THE BEST thing that could've happened. She found out really fast the motives of her parents. I wish DSS would go live with his mom. But that's the funny thing, right? We're horrible, but tell him he can live with his mom instead and it's a stern "no." Must learn how to not let this get to me.

Shel, hope all goes well at your appointment today. DS#1 has full size poodles. One is very shy. I was doing some odds and ends on some cabinet work yesterday and he snapped at me. I could feel the wind of his teeth on my arm. They said he does not like hats. I was wearing a head light. I took it off and he was like "whats up? where did you come from?"

Ann, great verse here is a link to a song to go with it. It was written to sing to other people but I sing it toward my self at the beginning of a work day. Also, I learned to play chess with my brother while living in Africa in my early teens. He beat me every day for months until I finally beat him. Then I beat him regularly. I don't play now but with technology and all I should still play him.

BB, sounds like DSS needs some tough love but it is hard to do sometimes. I left home at 16, married at 17 and have worked hard most of my work life until I got into nursing. (different kind of hard work) It is so easy for me to dish out the tough love because It was never easy the first couple of decades. People follow the easiest path and if it is easy to live off of mom and dad they will do it until it becomes more difficult to maintain. Like confront him about griping about you. Kids hate confrontation more than adults. Start keeping a tab of money you have loaned him. Charge rent. He won't pay it but it will be a burden on him and not you. It is all about raising discomfort for him to maintain his easy way of life. It is different if you are giving him a leg up. You should not have to give in to give. I think I am talking to myself on a lot of this.

Carbon, where are you? Check in to let us know a bear has not eaten you.

More later, David

Good grief! So that's what your green smoothies are made of. Respect!

Also ... good essay on tough love. Testify! And yes, most of our "sermons" are most audible to ourselves.

Keep talking out loud to yourself about tough love. I'm trying to imprint your learnings on my brain. I hate confrontation but you are right; now that I think about it, DD hates it even more than I do. I would leverage that if I were smart.

I also like the point about charging rent knowing that he won't pay it but it is a burden on him. Brilliant!

I think Ann had the sleep I didn't get last night...

I hope Your appointment goes well Shel!

BB, the right thing to do with stepchildren is often a mystery. I generally found it best to bite my tongue. Now that DSD is 44, she is like a true daughter to me (after many years of hardly seeing DH and I).

Carbon, where the heck are you?
