Weight 115.5, calories 775. I'm settling back toward the bottom of my range which I prefer. I had a more normal schedule of sleeping, eating and exercise yesterday which I think is helping.

We are going to Aldi to check out the V/F today as we are making a salad to bring to our friends tonight.

Paula, best of luck at Mayo and I hope you are feeling better.

Devon, I was surprised at your detox as I thought you considered such things fad diets? The CAMAW challenge I do here on OH is similar and I do it primarily to detox from simple carbs without feeling hungry or ill.

Have a well-adjusted Wednesday!

Weight: 132.0
Macros: Cals - 1,983, Carbs - 259, Fats - 60, Protein - 108, Fiber - 37
Veggies/Fruits (goal 8): 8
Sleep (goal 8 hours): 6 hours
Exercise: Yoga class and 30" walk

Last night I got the late-night munchies, which wouldn't have been so bad, but for the fact that I recently bought some high-calorie 15-whole grain bread for hubby's sandwiches to bulk up his calories. I "tested" two slices last night, and that bread is incredibly good! So I'm going to move the package to a much higher cabinet.

Yesterday, I got back to my daily 8 V/Fs, which were baby carrots, a medium tomato on-the-vine, romaine lettuce, half an avocado, sweet potatoes, black beans, chard/spinach/kale, and blueberries. I'm glad my separate V/F post yesterday was useful to some of you. I enjoyed finding out how much I'm spending and found out I really don't need to buy any more out-of-season tomatoes right now. :)

I enjoyed so many activities yesterday, including a half-hour walk with friends after yoga class. It's only 100 extra calories of exercise, but in the sunshine and the company of others it felt like it was worth so much more than calories.

BTW, on a blog I follow I saw a reference to a Washington Post article about the value of social connections to seniors. One takeaway for me was this, "... having a big social network was more important than having high-quality relationships for people during both adolescence and old age -- opposite ends of the life spectrum. But during mid-adulthood, from about the mid-30s to 50s, the quality of relationships mattered more."

Yesterday was full of friend connections. Right after my post-yoga walk with friends, while I was at Aldi's, ran into a friend I haven't seen in 4 years who is a Hindu nun who helped me care for my mom when she lived with us. We blocked the admittedly narrow aisles in Aldi's while we chatted and did not care! Then mid-afternoon a dear friend in Belgium called, which was lovely.

Today's theme is near-repat of yesterday's: Seek and value pleasures.

Hi guys!

I am hoping for peace today. Peace and space in my head to retain the peace.

About "diets". Such a loaded word for some. To me, just a word for what peeps are eating.

Personally, I sometimes find it useful to temporarily adjust for a specific goal like Liz's CAMAW or Devon's detox.

Most recently, I started drinking a protein shake as my work entree. Do I like protein shakes? No, I prefer Whole Foods and protein shakes are don't fit my definition. (I like the way auto correct made Whole Foods into the grocery store, by the way).

But, do I like saving up a few calories for stray holiday bites with no weight gain? Yes! I have done the same in the past with Costco frozen shrimp (yea for whole food!)but then someone stole my shrimp from the work freezer so now I am doing shakes. No one steals my Premier Protein.

For myself, it is more problematic if I am changing my diet to chase a mirage. Those diets tended to be too vague or too strict and you know the ending of that story.

Hug your skinny tight,

Shel

Weight: 176.2. Yikes. But I definitely feel puffy and dehydrated. Must pump water. My calves are hurting so that's how I know.

I guess I'm just gonna share all my other problems on here since I can't do anything about weight gain, currently!

1) I'm trying to be a better person when it comes to dealing with my grandma. But I keep failing :( Today I let her get to me and I know she already feels bad asking for help, and Im sure it's a very vulnerable and humbling experience. I should treat her kindly. And normally I do. Ugh. Why can't I sometimes remember that in a moment of frustration?!

2) Shel-diet is still a loaded word for me. And I doubt I'll ever be able to drink protein shakes again (PSMF caused me to develop a gag reflex to them) but I do agree with you. Reset/detox/what have you can be really good. And I think lots of "normal" people do it. I just think it's good to do so with an eye on the whole picture. I'm never saying never to food again! That is a TRAP for me. But I did hear someone say once "not right now doesn't mean never." And I did have to get a healthier view of "moderation." I cannot eat a sweet every time someone brings it. I do have to be choosy. And if I want to go to a big dinner, the smart idea is to eat less for lunch, or even for days in advance. I think my normally thin friends do this kind of naturally. it's not about deprivation, at all. And, at least for me, that's the KEY! None of this can be about deprivation. If I want to make myself feel better by detoxing from carbs/sugar for a week or two, I can do that so long as I'm able to frame it in a spa-like-gift mindset for myself. Aha! Lightbulb moment.

I haven't slept very well since my husband has been out of town. I decorated the smaller tree last night and that only added to my achiness. But at least we're getting things accomplished!

Yes! to getting a new view of "moderation." Surely one of my most abused words of all time.

Moderation: Difficult to apply in many situations...

Weight 164.8. I have not seen this weight since I zoomed past it as a very young teenager! Calories 1349. I think I need to bump this up a bit again as I'm down 3.2 pounds since Thanksgiving.

More taking it easy today coupled with copious nose blowing. I'm actually sitting here on the couch in a puffy coat since my dog enjoys laying outside in the cold morning air (ie refuses to come inside), but gets mad (barks) if I shut the door. My dog rules the roost! The fresh air has to be good for a cold, right?

The word diet isn't loaded for me, but restrictive diets make me feel punished. Like CAMAW - who knew the carbs I eat were so important to me feeling content?? I quit after a day and a half because it was depressing for me. But eating things I enjoy, just in reasonable amounts that help me lose weight doesn't feel bad at all.

Sounds like you DO need to bump up the calories. We are all different but to give you another point of reference, I am almost 5'4" and maintain at 1600-1700 kcal per day. My work is sedentary but try to get some physical activity most days.

I had almost no carbs during my year of weight loss. (If I remember right, pretty much always

Hey, I got cut off! It has been a long time since that happened. You'll just have to imagine what the rest was :)

The important part is that I hope you feel lots better soon and that dogs rule our den, too.

Ha! I figured something like that happened!

So glad I'm not alone on the dog front. Now he's staring at me from across the room which says he wants to go on a walk. A little sun might feel good (my mom was a big proponent of baking a cold out of you by sitting in the sun - I'm sure it does nothing of the sort, but it feels good).
