Apparently, eating less still makes me lose weight. Whenever I think that doesn't work anymore, but I knuckle down, I'm shocked, shocked!

It occurs to me this morning, after nearly four years of taking responsibility for my weight and health, that it's time I stopped imagining that being successful at all of this is a precarious enterprise for me. What if I just relaxed and accepted that I've gotten really GOOD at it? Would the world stop spinning? There's an exercise to consider: What beliefs and assumptions am I working really, really hard to hold in place? Hmm ...?

Yesterday's 7 V/Fs came from spring lettuces, cherry tomatoes, lots of red and yellow peppers, and a whole lot of blueberries and strawberries. This week I've been into lunchtime chicken salads with different veggies, sauces, and dressings instead of my usual sandwich and carrots.

So this morning's big news is that yesterday I went to a sweet day spa here in our little town to find an alternative source for pedicures. For years I've been going to a local nail joint, but was increasingly unhappy with results. Yesterday's spa pedicure was fabulous (and only $5 more), so that's a good thing. But the big news is that I found out the spa has a *membership* plan that works like this: For $99 a month spa members receive an hour-long pedicure, a manicure, an hour-long facial, a micro-derm treatment, an hour-long massage, a paraffin treatment for hands and feet, a spray tan, hair cut, hair color (up to $75), and eyebrow waxing. That's $350+ of services monthly for $99!

I probably won't ever use the hair cut, hair color or eyebrow waxing services, but I'll definitely use and enjoy all the others. The obvious question is how can they make money? I assume that some members don't always use all those services every month, that hanging out in the spa encourages customers to spend more on products and additional services, and that the program generates word of mouth advertising and more customers. Works for me!

And I just realized that yesterday I discovered new ways to restore my body and mind with monthly massages, facials and at a great, great price!

Today will be busy with yoga class, errands, a doctor visit, and physical therapy this afternoon.

I'm sticking with the theme that's working: I invite restoration and peace for my body and mind.

Hello,

We are just outside of San Francisco for a couple of days. DD finally went into passive aggressive Redwood pushback yesterday. Nothing more than being a teen and I think a lot of people would get tired of hiking/walking thru trees or along the coast.

But, I don't get tired of it so I was disappointed that I had to curtail what I wanted to do.

Today is a new day. Plans are shifting with the weather. My gym franchise has a location near the hotel so I can work out there without an extra charge this morning.

Lots of three pics below. I love them all. Like Cecily said about smells, I wish there was a way to share the feeling of peace and wellness.

Ann, what a killer spa deal! Great find.

Peace and wellness,

Shel

People in the picture give scale to the trees. I so want to be there with you!

It is amazing, right? I agree about people giving scale. Without them, my brain assumes normal sized trees.

"What if I just relaxed and accepted that I've gotten really GOOD at it?" Inviting successful maintenance of balanced health... a powerful focus which encompasses most of the little pieces I, too, consciously address ! At some point, I think we do reach the tipping point between working to institutionalize new behaviors and feeling confident that the new habits have begun to truly habituate. Good for you for realizing that the day spa experience is aligned with balanced health. The people who see it as pampering/ self indulgent will experience that time that way, at a superficial level. Individuals who invite the time as a multi-dimensional opportunity to learn, grow, and promote balanced health will see those results.... every time. Cool stuff !

Results of heart monitor study were within normal ranges. There were a couple of extra heart beats here any there, but no lasting abnormal rhythms. Yea ! Atlas gets his rabies shot and a current weight for dosing heartworm and tick/flea medication. It's been month to month until now, as he has such dramatic weight changes... hopefully we're ready for a few month supply ! Sadie has another session with the trainer at noon and hopefully will return to therapy work next week. Orkin is after that.

So, building upon inviting successful maintenance of balanced health, I plan to be walking 18,000 + steps a day in California, so I need to kick things up a notch now. There are also four flights of beach access stairs down the cliffs outside our condo, so I'd love to overcome my single step preference ascending and descending. (Former compound fracture of ankle falling down stairs 30+ years ago... limited range of motion and fear).
