Topic: What plan are you following to get back on track?
Just curious as to what plan you are following to get back on track. Are you going back to the basic instructions given by your surgeon? Counting calories? Carbs? Not counting?

My post op instructions were to only count protein for the first 2-4 months, then eat around 1000 calories a day with a minimum 65 grams of protein a day.

I tried the 1000 calories. I had a really hard time getting in my protein with that little amount of calories AND I was still struggling to get the weight off. Visited with the nut and she recommended upping my calories to 1200-1400. That didnt really seem to work either. I tried upping my exercise. Seems Im having a hard time in general. Keep in mind that Im a revision...if that means anything. I kinda gave up tracking, cause I felt like I was beating my head against the wall. Between the holidays and a small surgery, I managed to gain about 5 lbs.

The past 19 days Ive been really tracking and going to Zumba 3 days a week. Im keeping my calories between 1200-1400 a day, minus 4 slip up days according to my calendar. These days I have recorded my calories and were under 1900.

According to various calculators, to maintain my weight, I would be eating 2600-2800 calories a day!! Im 5'9, 236lbs. Im just under a year and a half post op.

How is it that I have managed not to lose a single pound? and Im actually feeling bloated? I sweat my butt off in Zumba. I literally have sweat dripping off me at the end of class. WTF?
This is so depressing and unmotivational. Im going to check out a new gym on Saturday to see if I can supplement my Zumba with strength training. I just dont know what else to do.

Good Job!  I love all my little yellow X's on my calendar.  What helps me when I go out to eat, is to keep it lean and green.  Hopefully, I can't go wrong with that.  Last time I had a girls night out with three other friends, we asked for 1 dessert and four forks.  That worked too.  Have a great day!

Good Morning!

Had a good day yesterday. Stayed in my calorie range (the low end), and went to Zumba so I get a yellow stripe and a pink stripe on my calendar for yesterday!!

Supposed to be taking a coworker out for a farewell lunch today. We are both foodies, so there will be alot of temptation, but Im going to try to keep myself from going crazy. We travel together and can get ourselves into a bit of trouble! LOL Im going to miss him :(

Eats for today:

Coffee w/ cream
Weight control oatmeal
banana before lunch to help keep the food monster away
Not sure...
Grilled chicken breast and baked sweet potatoes for dinner (Im cooking tonight!)
Hot green tea if Im getting that late night craving

Trying to make sure Im getting in extra fluids...water. something is bloating me and not sure what it is, but my feet are looking like loaves of bread!

I don't mine the shakes at all.  I still have one a day at almost six years out.  I do what ever I can to make sure that I meet my protein intake.  If I just ate food, I doubt that I could get all my protein in.  If you can tolerate protein bars, you might want to add or substitute one for the Special K crisp bars.  That would probably help with your count.  You are doing good but running after the grandkids will burn a lot of energy and the protein will keep you going strong.

I too went back to Weigh****chers to support a friend who is on the RNY path.  I am giving it up.  The new program doesn't work for me at all, so like you, I am back to basics!!

Not too bad considering........Day 1 down, a lifetime to go!!  I do need to watch my carbs since I had a lot of milk today.  Exercise consisted of walking the dog.  My Core Body Reformer came today (a new infomercial gadget I bought)  so I will try doing that.

I hope that everyone had a good day today!!

My plans for the day changed at the last minute and I ended up watching 3 of my lil' grandbabies all day. 20 mo, 8 mo. & 6 mo. old.  Whew!  I'm exhausted to say the least.  I watched them at my son's home, so my food choices were not what they would have been had I been home or had some advance notice.  But the day is done and tomorrow is a page waiting to be written.

Exercise....Babies

Thanks for checking up on me Tess.  I always appreciate your insight and words of wisdom.
I've been doing 2 scoops of protein in my shakes for a total of 52g of protein.  I am finding it hard to meet my protein requirements without drinking the shakes.  Hopefully someday I'll be able to meet the requirements without having to drink them, but it's not today.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes.      :)

Sorry to hear you can't digest soy.. I am also a RNY, but guess that me and my friend our expections, thank goodness..  I really believe sometimes, it's the way the surgeron does things that causes us to be like we are.  We both had the same dr.

Hang in there, you are doing great!!!  The surgery really has changed my life.  Hopefully soon, I can figure out how to get my pics small enough to load up.

I have tried the Body By Vi and it does taste great however I am not able to use it though as it is Soy protein, which my surgeon & nutritionist said a RNYer wouldn't digest/absorb properly.  I was always instructed to only use Whey proteins.....

Can be either, or both..
When we start low cal - low carb diet - we loose the sugar storage in our muscles and liver... every gram of stored "sugar" needs app 8 gr of water.  So when we go on the low carb diet - the first 5-8 lbs ... maybe jus****er.... then the body starts burning fat... then the body realizes that it is not going to get more sugar ...so converts the proteins into sugar... and will need to retain water to make sure it is stored properly.  That's why many people see an initial rapid weight loss,  then stall...(when the body is not sure what to do) then maybe even some gain... (water retention).
On top of that there is the hormonal water retention (cyclical for some woman) and, as I call it, Chinese food water retention... (lots of salt).  and so on...
I know my body can lose and gain 5 lbs overnight.

Now that's why coming off low carb diet - we may gain back 5-8 lbs in very short time... duet to body restocking its sugar storage and the water that it needs to do that...

so... really   only time will tell...

Walking or dancing is a great exercise... And you are right... the weight most likely will come off slowly - but it is not the paste - but the final results that count..

10 lbs is not much so I do understand the low motivation... I wanted to lose 5- 10 lbs... not too much that my extra weight is a huge problem... but it is enough for me to want to get it off...
