Six month surgiversary
on January 14, 2013 10:38 am

Well today is my six month surgiversary .  I was hoping to have 100 lbs gone by this date, I didn't make that but I sure came close.  I am 97 lbs  down as of today.  Just short 3 pounds.   I am happy with that and also glad I am still loosing although it is slower now.  I have had to add more fat to my diet and really need to keep up with the water intake.  I am also starting an aquasize class tonight each class is 1 hour and I am going 3 times a week, so that should speed up my weight loss.  My next goal is to get under 200 pounds by end of summer.  I will update then.

Hello My name is Barb.

I started my weight loss journey by asking my doctor to refer me to a weight loss surgery place, of course she had no idea where to send me and if there was anywhere in Manitoba that would do the surgery.  Since then through my own personal research I found out that there is a Manitoba bariatric program. (it is covered by Manitoba Health)
I did not qualify for the program being over 47 bmi, so then I found out that I could go out of province still covered by Manitoba Health.  I found a surgeon in Medicine Hat, Alberta named Dr. Carl Nohr he does the RNY, he has a cut off bmi of 55.  I of course was bigger than that.
I then found this web site, thank god.  I have met a lot of wonderful people through this web site and found a place to have surgery at an affordable price.  I went to Tiajauna, Mexico and had the Duodenal Switch procedure done with Dr. Jamie Ponce de Leon.  My highest weight was 352 lbs and when I had my surgery I was 349.  I didn't loose much on my pre op diet, and I followed it to a tee.  Since my surgery I am down 75 lbs as of Oct. 14th, 2012.  that is exactly 4 months after my surgery.  I LOVE MY DS.  I was borderline diabetic and had high cholesterol and also have severe sleep apnea.  I still have sleep apnea but all other problems are gone.

I would highly recomend anyone considering wls to investigate the DS procedure.  If you have any questions please feel free to send me a private message or add me as freind and I will try to help you any way I can.  If you live in Manitoba, our OH forum has meetings (meet and greets) usually once a month and anyone is welcome.   Barb
