I'm Lisa.  I live in Wisconsin with my two sweet dogs and a crazy but cute kitty.  I'm on YouTube (TheLosingLisa) and Facebook (also TheLosingLisa).  I had Gastric Bypass surgery on 10/31/12.

It's all happening!!
on October 26, 2012 2:00 pm

It's all happening!  (This is one of my favorite lines from the movie "Almost Famous.")  My RNY surgery is on Wednesday, October 31.  I only have two full work days left before everything changes.  (for the better, of course...i hope...of course.)  This morning I got my pre-registration call with all my "be here at this time, surgery is at this time, you will be in your room by this time, etc" instructions.  For some reason I got super crazy nervous after that call.  Somehow I guess it made everything more real.  I found out I get my own private room in the hospital, though, so that was cheery news.

I'm a little apprehensive about my surgery being just before all of the holiday festivities.  My brother has been joking around with me that he's going to eat all of "my" turkey at Thanksgiving.  While I know he's just being silly, I'm worried that I'll feel left out somehow, not being able to take part in the food traditions of my family.  Rationally, I'm glad - I think having everything revolve around food is not ideal, and am excited to find ways around that, but at the same time, watching everyone eat things that I can't or shouldn't eat could be hard.  I guess that remains to be seen...

But the good news is:  It's all happening!!  kiss

My Story

I've been significantly overweight for about ten years now.  I have tried every way I could think of to lose weight (Nutri-System, counting calories, Atkins, some shake diet called "The Every Other Day diet", and even buying unprescribed HCG hormones from an online site in India to do the HCG diet.)  Some of them worked, some of them didn't.  I gained back well more than I had lost almost immediately upon stopping them.  My ex-husband gave me divorce ultimatums weekly if I didn't figure out how to lose weight and not be "repulsive."  (I divorced him for being so mean to me.)

I want to lose weight for my health and self-confidence.  I have PCOS, which causes many other health issues, but at the same time makes it very difficult to lose weight.  I also have psuedotumor cerebri, which means that I've got so much spinal fluid pressure, it simulates a tumor in my brain and causes me to have intense migraines.  Every doctor's solution to my health problems?  "Lose weight and this will go away."  After attending an initial information meeting, visiting with my surgeon, and doing tireless research online, I feel that RNY surgery would really help me to get my weight under control and allow me to be as active as I would like to be.
