6 Months Post op
on August 20, 2007 10:21 pm
Well I am 6 months out and I am so amazed every day at the changes that I  experience.  I have lost 110 pounds since I started this journey.  I am so thankful for my supportive family....especially my mom who celebrates EVERY pound that I lose.  I wear the black tie scrubs now.... that is a large!!! No X's in front of it!!!! I can hardly believe it.

Well I have made to the 3 month point...hooray!!! I have lost 56 pounds since the surgery and  26 pre surgery for a total of 82 big ones!!  It is funny because when you work in a hospital and you all wear the same scrubs you know what size everyone wears because of the color of ties on the front.  I was thrilled when I went down a couple of scrub sizes for the first time!!!  Now instead of wearing a 3XL I wear an XL....which means red ties on the pants that everyone can see!!! I love it!! I walk down the hall and see others that wear this size scrubs and think to myself "Wow, do I really wear the same size as they do?"  In scrubs yes  (they fit like PJ's!!)  Also, I am a "tucker"!   I have tucked in my shirt for the first time in years....weird!  But I feel great and I am ready to venture on to the next size down....Thank God and great surgeons!

My Story

Well, I have to say that I have ben overweight since birth...I think.  I remember going to my first Weight Watchers meeting when I was 9 years old.  I probably wasn't obese but overweight none the less.  Since then I am certain that I have tried every diet or pill and lost a thousand pounds over the last 30 years....only to regain.  Here it is only 5 days prior to my surgery (RNY) and 7 days from my 39th birthday.  I will be in the hospital for my birthday but I don't care....  skip this b-day and I will be happy to be fabulous at 40 next year!

I have wanted WLS since I heard of it more than 10 years ago when I started nursing school but insurance did not cover it.  As of this January it is covered!  Boy there is a line of nurses that I work with forming!!!

Everyone in my family is very supportive of my decision to have this surgery.  When I found out that my insurance would cover it (4 a.m. ....I work night shift)  I could hardly wait to call my mom...I think I waited about 30 minutes!!!  I knew that she would be thrilled....and she was.  We had talked for many years about how we might be able to afford to pay cash for it.  My husband is very supportive as well.  When I told him of my plan he was happy. My children are happy as well, although I am not sure they understand a lot of it.

I have been very open at work and with anyone that I know about my surgery plan.  It seemed like a good idea to have as many positive thinkers out there as possible!
