Surgeon Testimonial

Thomas Sonnanstine M.D.
Dr. Sonnanstine is the best! He has a compassion that is hard to find in a bariatric surgeon, and he is on top of his game. He is confident without being arrogant. His bedside manner is phenomenal. He truly cares. I saw him for my final pre-op on a Friday he let me know if I had any questions over the weekend to call him. How many doctors want to hear from you over the weekend? My surgery was on a Monday, he came back before the surgery to make sure I was okay, to see if I had any questions, and let me know about how long before I would be in the OR. After surgery he checked on me several times and he kept my family updated. I don’t remember that evening very well because I was so tired. Tuesday morning he was in checking on me around 8am, again around 1, and then again around 6:30. This man’s dedication lets you know that helping people is his passion. I am so thankful I found Dr. Sonnanstine! My husband is always impressed when we meet with him, and my sisters, mom, and mother-in-law think he is gorgeous.

I LOVE THESE!!!
on November 15, 2008 7:57 am
I just got back from the grocery and couldn't wait to try them.  I have only had 4 of them so far, but I can see me weighing them all out and having 1oz  day.   They are almonds so they are great for us, but where they are dusted with cocoa they taste like a hershey bar with almonds only better!!!   If you can find them try them!!!  YUMMM

100 Pounds Down!!!
on September 16, 2008 6:25 pm
I am officially 100 pounds down!!!!  I am 4-1/2 months out of surgery.   I couldn't be more excited!!!  Sometimes I have to remind myself that I am not a tight size 28 anymore.    I am very blessed to have had this procedure and I am doing everything I can to stay on track, working out, eating right, vitamins, and fluids.

Sunday routines
on September 7, 2008 10:38 am
I love Sundays!  Usually on Saturdays we go to the farmer's market, and begin what we need to do for the weekend (maybe start laundry or clean the house).  But, on Sundays we finish laundry and finish cleaning the house.   I also, take our findings from the farmers market and make most of our meals for the week.   It is nice to go to bed on Sunday night prepared for the week ahead.   Not having to worry about food and laundry is a weight off of my shoulders.   Oh, and I have quit my 2nd job, so I have my weekends back

I have been asked to post what I make each Sunday so here is today's

Pot of Chili- made with 96% lean beef, kidney beans, peppers, onions,
                      and tomatoes
Tuna Salad- tuna, 3 egg whites, 1 egg yolk, LF mayo, dill relish, mustard
divided up in 1/2 cup gladware ready for lunches
Pastaless Chicken Carbonara dish--- grilled chicken sliced thin, thinly
sliced onions, red, green, and purple peppers, chopped
spinach, chopped artichoke hearts, crushed tomatoes,
garlic, topped with 2 oz of shredded parm cheese and basil
I am going to roast a spaghetti squash to serve it with
Sausage Peppers & onions- I grilled chicken sausages with peppers,
onions, spinach and 1/2 cup of marinara sauce, put in pyrex
dish, topped with 1-1/2 oz of mozzarella
Pork roast- I got out my crockpot put in a plastic liner, put in an entire
pork loin roast, carrots peeled and trimmed, and 1 can of
sauerkraut, salt and peppered and put the lid on it.  placed it
in the fridge, one morning before work I will put it to cook for
                      8 hours
Protein ice cream- 3 cups of skim milk, 6 scoops of chocolate protein
powder, 2 TBSP of PB.  I mix all together in the blender and
then put it in the icecream maker.   Once ready I divide out in
1/2 cup gladware containers so they are ready for quick
                       grabbing throughout the week.
Shelly's Apple Walnut Crumb- Zach had a sweet tooth, so I made these

Catching up....
on September 1, 2008 3:58 pm

So much has happened in the past couple of weeks. I am now down a total of 90 pounds since my WLS (less than 4 months ago). I am continually having more WOW moments. Today I had to return a dress for a smaller size. I was never that girl, that needed a smaller size. I always had to exchange an item for a bigger size. I am wearing the dress tomorrow to work, I will post a picture.

8/20/08

It has been a tough week.  My direct boss passed away Monday night suddenly...she wasn't sick.    I feel so badly for her family, and our organization.   She will be missed!  It is also the first time I have not dealt with anything like this since my surgery.   The past 20 years I would have just eaten my feelings, it didn't matter if it was a sad day, a celebration, a frustrating day, I ate.  I treated and soothed myself with food.  I am aware of this, and being very mindful of my food intake.

Breakfast-1/2 cup of protein icecream (24)
Lunch -2 oz of turkey roll ups (turkey & mustard) (12)
Dinner- SB high protein cereal bar (10)
Snack-1/2 c. protein icecream (24)

Edited to add....I just biked around 4 miles with my Zach.  It is the first time I have rode more than 2 miles with him.   My body feels like Jello, but in a good way!   Tonight I am feeling the burn.
