Surgeon Testimonial

Alexander Nagle, MD
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Nagle. He listens, really cares and is there for you when you need him. Not to mention he did a great job!

Q: What was your first impression of him/her?

1.) My first impression was one of great relief. I had a 2 page long list of questions and he sat and listened and answered everyone of my questions. He drew a picture of what was going to be done and assured me this was a good thing I was doing for the furture.

Q: How did your impression change over time?

2.) All for the better. I asked to go back and see him a second time as the date of my surgery was getting closer. I just wanted to make sure, and felt meeting someone once was not enough. They got me in right away and again he listened and answered all my questions. I walked away knowing he was "THE MAN", chuckle, chuckle.

Q: How would you describe his/her office staff?

3.) Liz gave me her direct number and she emailed as well. She kept me in the loop concerning the insurance and was a GREAT help in that area. Afterwards when I had complications the staff was there for me 24/7.

Q: What did you like least about him/her?

4.) Nothing

Q: What should future patients know about him/her?

5.) That he has done this procedure with hundreds of patients. He is detailed, caring and has a wonderful hospital behind him, Northwestern Universary. You are in good hands with Dr. Nagle.

Q: How much does he/she emphasize aftercare?

6.) The Surgeon part is good, but I wish Dr. Nagle didn't have his follow up program through The Wellness Center. There is such a disconnect there and most end up not following up with them!

Q: Does he/she have a structured aftercare program?
He does not do any of the follow up care the Wellness Center does

Q: How did he/she address the risks of surgery?

8.) Truthfully, and factually.

Q: How would you rate him/her overall?

9.) Very Good!

Q: Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?

10.) BOTH!

I Survived my first 5k, barely.

September 25, 2005

I MADE IT, I MADE IT! Check out the pics of my first 5k run/walk. The last ones I look like I am dying, chuckle, chuckle, but I did it. I cried when I crossed the finish line. I went from feeling like I was having a heart attach walking from my car to my desk to running a 5k marathon! Dreams do come true.. No wait! I never dreamed of running a 5k. Now what does that tell you about this gift we are given to get our lives back.

I hope you enjoy the pics.....

Take care,
Kathy

My first 5K, will she die or survive?

Ok, my will is made out My shoes are tied in the center and not to the side I have a case of Ben Gay in the car My body girdle is clean and waiting to pack the skin in
I am worried about the two hung low sisters, without duct tape I may get black eyes If I don't make it over the line my son will deny knowing me I bought two head bands instead of one Lousy sweat
Protein sup is laying on the counter
I don't have to worry about my thighs causing fires anymore, but the fire department will be there just in case the skin does the same

Ok, wish me luck

Oh, what is this all about you may ask Is she ?

I am running my first 5k run/walk tomorrow since losing 200 pounds. I will let ya know how I do tomorrow

If you don't see a follow up post from me then send cards and letters to Northwestern Hospital in Chicago, address it attention to: one toe over the line

Take care,
Kathy

So that is the secret to success..Exercise.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the great emails. I just love hearing from everyone and love to be of any help I can.

I am working very hard to get ready for my first 5k run/walk this Sunday. I think I shared with you that when I went back for my one year follow - up I asked what was the one thing that Northwestern (and they see thousands of us weekly) found that worked for those that kept the weight off. I have NEVER been able to keep the weight off and want to make sure I do. They said it was exercise! Gee, I was hoping for something magic or a pill, chuckle, chuckle, but it was the old "exercise". So this is a way for me to change my habits. I am also looking into joining the Y.

The curves just doesn't do it for me any more. Don't get me wrong, this is perfect for those of us when we are first starting out but don't sign up for anything longer than one year. You will find you will need more after your first year.

I don't usually post about products but I have to do so with this one. It's sooooo important we track what we eat and what we do for exercise, I think more so trying to keep it off. The one product that was my bible through out the year was a hand held size Nutri-Counter. Now this was my bible. It keeps track of EVERYTHING. But it didn't keep track of exercise. So I went on their website and they now have an updated version that does that as well.

They have a special now where if you buy the hand held you get the software for your desktop and a leather case free. Here is the link if you are interested.

It is really my lifeline!!!

I will be sure and post some pictures of them carrying me off to the ambulance Sunday, chuckle, chuckle....

Kathy

Happy Anniversary To Me..One Year Rebirth!
on September 1, 2005 12:00 am
September 1, 2005

Well, it was a mixed happy first anniversary. I was so excited to post about my one year but felt bad in doing so with all that is going on down south. My heart goes out to each and everyone there. But Tooter in her great wisdom said hey we need the good to give us strength to get through the bad.

So that being said I am getting all my one year pictures in order to scan and put on my profile page. One of them showing me fitting in one pant leg of the red outfit I was wearing last April is a hoot!!!!

I was soooo excited to go downtown Chicago yesterday to see my Wellness Center counselor and doctor. I also, was going to see my surgeon Dr. Nagle. I was sooo excited. Everyone just couldn't believe it. The doctor said something that I was not aware of with all my research. He said 90% of the people that have WLS only lose 30% of their body weight. Say what? No way, would I have been happy doing this surgery and weighing in the 200's.

He said I was in the top 1% if not the best in losing weight that he has ever seen. Dr. Kurshner has written books on weight loss so I am very touched he said that.

Talking to the dietician was very interesting. She was a little concerned that I am still losing 2 pounds a week. She wants me to increase my cals to 1200 and maybe even go to 1500 to get me to stop losing. I can't imagine going to that many cals. She also mentioned to concentrate more on weights and that I could put on 5-10 lbs using weights. Now that freaked me out, chuckle, chuckle.. We are going to do a body fat count the next time I go there in about 12 weeks. I think it was November 28. When I told her I wanted to lose more she said to keep in mind if I do PS that will reduce my weight as well. She said to call her if I continue to lose past 128 on 1500 cals. While I understand where she is coming from I really don't feel we are in trouble here Houston. I am only 5'3" and would not worry unless I started hitting the single digits. Geez, I can't believe I typed those words.....

Next we went over to see my surgeon and he was not there. He was called away on an emergency. The ladies in the office went nuts over me. They had not seen me in over 9 or 10 months. I left a picture and they were going to show him when he gets back. I will be seeing him next week. But I was very disappointed!!!

My DH and I took advantage of the extra time and went shopping. What a novel idea. It was soooo much fun trying on everything. Then we had dinner outside and went on a carriage ride. I would never have done any of this before. I was always thinking people wer thinking that poor horse, having to pull that big fat lady.

I am hoping someone will post about Miss Dolly. Teresa has been waiting for her PS forever. I am sooo happy for her.

Well, the next time I post I will have all my pictures up. Please say a prayer for all those that are suffering and I hope we can do something to help. We are giving through the Red Cross as I don't mind helping but sometimes we give sooo much and it never gets to the people that need it the most.

Take care,
Kathy
