Surgeon Testimonial

Mir Ali, M.D.
I chose Dr. Ali because of all the wonderful things so many people were telling me about him. They all turned out to be true! I honestly don't think there would be a bad choice with any of the doctors at Smart/Lite Dimensions. They have all trained under Dr. LePort and are very competent and skilled in the area of WLS. I was very pleased when I first met Dr. Ali and he patiently answered each and every one of my questions. He came in the room and sat down, giving the appearance that he had all the time in the world, when I knew darn well that he is an extremely busy man. The next time I saw him was in the pre-op holding area when he stopped in to make sure I was "holding up" ok. As of today I am 15 days post op and have had no complications whatsoever and I credit Dr. Ali for that. My recovery has been virtually pain free and simple. I would highly recommend Dr. Ali to anyone still undecided on which surgeon to chose!

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my story. My RNY was done on March 29,2005 and I've lost a total of 130 lbs. I can't say that I am the perfect WLS patient....but who really is? I try my best to follow my surgeon's protocol....which is really all any of us can do, right?  I must be doing something right because I've been at goal since Dec. 05. NOW is when the tough part begins.....keeping the weight off is going to be a life long battle.

Here's the link to my before/after photos, from the OH gallery.

My Story

I began this journey hoping to have the lap band surgery. I tried to fight my insurance company and finally gave in and ended up having the RNY instead. I'm EXTREMELY happy with my decision. I've been at my ideal goal weight for close to a year now. This next paragraph is from my original journal, began in September 2004....read on.....

I am a 41 year old single mother, living in Southern California. I have struggled with weight all of my adult life, been on many diets and always gained the weight back. I have recently switched to Blue Cross/PPO of California and am interested in having the Lap Band surgery. My medical doctor recommended me for the surgery and I have an appointment with the surgeon she referred me to on 10/07/04. When calling for the consultation appointment with this surgeon, the receptionist advised me that she did not think Blue Cross would cover the Lap Band surgery. I am still researching all surgeries at this time, but I am leaning more towards the Lap Band because it is a less invasive procedure. Since I have a minor blood clotting problem, (it takes me a little longer to stop bleeding than the normal person), and I meet all the other requirements for WLS, it is my hope to "challenge" Blue Cross and have them cover my Lap Band surgery. Besides, Blue Cross is covering this surgery in many other states already, (MA,TX,IL,NY), why should I be declined just because I live in CA? I am learning so much from this web site. I hope to someday post my sucess stories and pics like so many others here. Thanks for taking the time to stop by.
