Gilberto Ungson, M.D.
Having corresponded with Dr. Ungson only via email pre-op, I was anxious to meet him in person. He was just as nice, caring and sensitive as he was in his emails. A truely gifted surgeon with a top notch surgical team. The care at CIMA hospital was second to none. Some of the nurses did not speak much English, but the majority of them did.

    Got an e-mail from Diane's husband last night and one from Diane today! She has been sick with a virus on top of surgery! She just went to hotel last evening and will see Dr. U on Monday and I think come home on Tuesday.

50 pounds gone!!!

5-24-06 Still losing...slow but sure. Officially down 50 pounds in less than 3 months. I'm happy, but sure don't want it to stop! I'm down several pant sizes and people are really noticing the loss. I'll be going for my 3 month labs soon. Keeping fingers crossed that it's all good!

Down 40 pounds

4-22-06 FINALLY!!! The scale has moved. It was only 2 pounds, but I will take it. I've been retaining fluid again. Just finishing up with Aunt Flo's visit. She hasn't paid a call in 8 months. I was really hoping she was gone for good-not! Anyway, SHE may be the reason I have been holding on to so much water. Bottom line is that the scale has finally moved. I am offically down 40 pounds in just under 7 weeks. Yippppeee.

1 month post op

4-9-06 Well I've made it past my first month post op. I am down 38 pounds, so certainly no complaints there. I am still having a lot of acid and pain. Dr. Ungson has me taking 2 prilosec a day now. It does enable me to get some fluids in. I still can only eat about 4 bites of food at a time. Does't seem to matter what I'm eating. I go back to work tomorrow and am a bit concerned. I just don't feel strong enough. We'll see. I know my co workers will cut me all the slack they can. I'm sure once I'm a few more months down the road, this will all be a vaque memory. Right now, I still hurt.

Back to work

4-16-06 In kind of a funk right now. Went back to work on Monday. Not too bad until Friday. Fridays are notorious for being busy. We had 7 cases added on. No breaks, no lunch. I was in real pain by the time we finished our last patient. Haven't been that tired and sore in a while, but I made it through. The tough thing for me is that the scale hasn't moved for EIGHT long days. I am stuck at 38 pounds lost. Very frustrating. I thought with going back to work it would start moving again, but no luck. I know many have talked of plateaus, but I can't seem to bust this one and it seems way to early for one. I'm only 6 weeks out. Well I'll keep on keepin on and see what happens. My knees are soooo grateful for the 38 pound loss. Friday could have been WAY worse with that added weight.

Tender tummy

3-23-06 Eating is still a struggle for me. I simply cannot consume more than 4 or 5 bites...no matter what I'm trying to eat. I know I'm still not getting my protein OR my fluids in. I work on it, but my tummy just does not want to be bothered. The weight is melting off. I can't believe I'm down 24 pounds in less than 3 weeks. I've been doing one of those walk away the pounds videos every other day. I don't want to push it since I am still healing. So far so good. Got a nice card from some of the nurses at work yesterday. Reminded me how much I miss work and everybody there. No way I am ready to go back yet though. Dr. U put me off of work until April 10th. Very frustrating how little I can do physically. Had Stanley Steemer here yesterday and I have to wait until Mike and the kids get home to get all the furniture put back in place. Something I would normally do. I did get the insides of the windows washed and everything is fresh and clean. Gotta love it!
