Surgeon Testimonial

Alan Posner, M.D., F.A.C.S.
So far so good... I like his style, his straight-forwardness, no pussy-footing around... tells the risks out right, and you follow his program or you leave. I really like the fact that he listened to my questions and answered them in a way I understood without talking down to me; and he asked me if I had any more questions for him... WOW!

Dr Posner in Buffalo at Buffalo General Hospital is about the best thing that has ever happened to me! Had my WLS on Tuesday May 8th and was released on Thursday......all the staff who looked after me were the best!!!!! And I mean everyone, from the housekeeping lady who came in to empty the garbage pail to the Drs...eveyone asked me if I was ok, did I need anything, would I like to see a nurse...etc etc.

I'm impressed. Very impressed with the "perfect" WLS surgery I had in Dr Posner's hands to the followup he did during rounds to the greatest nursing team ever!

Oh, and canucks. If you're doing your "due diligence" and searching for a Dr for the WLS, then please do consider Dr Posner. OHIP works with them, and they're the ones I chose and I'm so ever happy that I did!

Thanks once again Dr Posner! Your skilll has given me back my life! WooHoo... I'm on my way!

I love reading about the WOW MOMENTS!!!  Here are a few that I never thought about but have experienced...

1) Not only are my rings too big, but my necklaces hang lower on my neck and bracelets /anklets are much looser now
2) Easier to walk in high heels
3) My butt bones get sore quite often when I sit too long
4) Can shop 'til I drop now
And the best...
5) My son asks me to lie down and chat when I tuck him in now - I am not too big to do that any longer!!

Re protein: you will not be able to get huge amounts of protein in at the beginning, but your goal IS to increase it so you are having 60+ grams a day... The Stacker Protein water is not so bad, I do not mind the pink lemonade flavour.  And I like the Whey Gourmet brand protein poweder (also buy at walmart)... I use the magic bullet to mix it well with milk, and I have it with ice -- colder is better.  You NEED liquids - and you NEED protein for healing, to build up your body's immune, so that in another 2-3 months the malnutrition does not knock you on your ass, and also to combat hair loss!  Concentrate on liquid proteins as much as you can.  Think of it like this... you have a very WICKED cough, you take Buckley's - it tastes awful but it works... same as protein!!!!

WLS is on our stomachs NOT our heads... Note that ANY WLS surgery can be "eaten around"... so we each need to address those issues head-on and work through them.

My reason for choosing RNY???  I want to eat HEALTHY... a healthy diet grows a healthy body... so I do not want to simply eat whatever I want and just rely on the surgery to deal with it (NOT that that is the point behind a DS - just that I have found most DSers CAN eat whatever they want -- I feel the dumping possibility keeps me honest with myself)... I am eating probably the best I ever have in my life now!!  I can have that one or two cookies, or a small bit of chocolate and be ok... but since my pouch is so tiny I just have the occasional small treat and I concentrate on healthy choices.  I have found I only dump if I have a lot of sugar, SF products (sugar alcohols hate me) or some weird things like certain BBQ sauces or popcorn seasonings.  It is a crap shoot... 60% of RNYers dump, and of those 60% about 1/3 will "outgrow" dumping by around 2 years out.
