Prior patient of tenewitz looking for others who are having problems way post op as my was 12/2002, I am having all issues that began in 2004, but was attributed to being preg after surgery now 7 yrs later knowing its from long term mal-absorption.
I had NO health problems other than being fat, but actually had to gain 30-68lbs before I could get my insurance to approve, and
Dr T told me I was PREVENTING health issues I would have being overweight.

My Story

After being told I could not have anymore prior to gastric bypass i found out I was pregnant in 2/2004 which was about 15 mths post op all blood work was coming back great, then having what I could only explain as what felt like acid reflux in my intestines, I only gained 13lbs and immediately lost 50 post baby, but within 6 mths of giving birth started getting sick on a regular continual basis. I was dx w/ leukopenia in 5/05, and found out I was b12 and iron deficient anemic, continued to get worse and worse until I finally quit working in 2007. Throughout this time I learned that it was believed I wasnt absorbing what was expected so i was gonna have to double everything taking vitamins, food etc. Thats when I learned a true roux en y wasnt actually done, a tenewitz edited version was done but by this time he was out of mal practice insurance and because i pregnant earlier tahn suggest and didnt follow the diet plan to the "T" I decided it was probably my fault I was having these problems. In effort to function and try to maintain some sort of health as I am 33 with 2 kids and a loving husband who was there before/after surgery, I started looking or wanting real answers as even doing what i was directed, was making things much better. I ended being diagnosed with SLE, MCTD, fibromayalgia, depression, anxiety, hypoglycemic so far but try to double or triple my vitamin intake, food intake, liquid intake, is next to impossible and when I do start building up what I consider 'extra', I realize it takes every waking moment to plan what time, what size portion, what food will actually work, then realize I am now absorbing even less making it that much harder to keep up. And I have been fighting disability since 2007, but have decided even if I helped bring on these problems, by having a soda or macaroni once in a while, or getting pregnant a few months sooner, I could of worked harder then not play catch the rest of my life. So I began my journey here to help find my own answers although depressing to find I am not the only one with similar problems, hoping to share experiences with those in a situation similar or 'thinking' that this surgery is the 'easy' answer. As I have noticed in my almost 5 yrs of trying to find a cure for something irreversible, most dr's have no interest in cleaning up Dr T's mess.

I can honestly say although I have not had a weight issue since having surgery, I would rather be fat and healthy then skinny and sickly. And wish that someone would have guided me a little better as a professional knowing I wasnt on my death bed from the weight, I just hated being fat!! He even told me what to write in the letter to the insurance company to make it sound good, which I thought was professional guidance not a deviation to get what maybe wasnt neccessary.
