Surgeon Testimonial

Thomas R Brown
I actually went into the Dr.'s office to support my younger sister. She was having hormonal problems, after many months of having medical problems, the only link that any of ALL the many Dr.'s she went to with the goal of identifying her \"problem\" and in search of a solution, she and I requested and studied all of her physicians notes. The only \"common link\" to her problem was that she was \"morbidly obese\". I did WLS research, obtained a Dr.'s name, scheduled a visit and went in to meet the Dr. rnDr. Browns secretary (at the time - Mary) was very helpful. My sister and I did all of the \"pre-op\" stuff we had to do and ended up having surgery 1 day apart. Dr. Browns office would receive a D- in the \"follow-up\" Depart. It took weeks and weeks of dumping and just getting sicker and sicker (never asked me to come in despite the many calls made to his office) he never asked that I come in for an apt to see him. Staff asked I come in (once) and see a med. assistant?? Who was \"nice\" enough, just could never \"get it right\" consequently, my sister did great... and I went into congenital heart failure a few months later.

Hey there everyone!  I will be 5 yrs 'post' RNY in a few weeks and I dont regret it for a moment!  I have maintained my weight between about 154-160 lbs... My sister and I had it together, unfortunately, she has gained quite a bit of weight back!   which makes me sad, you see... she is the reason why I decided to do it myself.  She was very ill due to her obesity and if it wouldn't have been for the surgery, she would no longer be with us... but, it's a very "personal" decision to maintain or not... right?  My twin sister had surgery a year after we did...and she's doing great!  I am very proud of the three of us regardless... My daughter had the lapband surgery a year ago, and although the weightloss is quite a bit slower, she looks terrific and is planning on having a TT this summer.  Hope all is well with everyone out there... Happy New Years!  Lax

My Story

I have been overweight most of my life.  After I had my youngest son(17 yrs ago) I gained 80 lbs and never let go of them.  I have a twin sister and a sister 1 1/5 yrs younger than I.  We all had different medical issues due to our weight.  My twin sister had a horrific rheumatoid arthritis case, exasperated by her weight.  She suffered of athsma and sleep apnia, my younger sister (who is the reason why I considered and went thru with RouxY) was almost clomotosed her sleep apnia was terrible.  She would literally fall asleep standing up.  I developed a severe problem with my heart, as a child I suffered a severe case of rheumatic fever and consequently developed a heart murmur.  My youngest sister and I decided we would research and consult with a physician, we said, "if it gets approved, it gets approved"... ah, well, surgery was approved!  A year later, my twin sister had surgery.  We have all had 'little' things happen consequent to the surgery.  I had a tough time after surgery, dumped for months!  I went into congenital heart failure 4 months later and ended up having open heart surgery and requiring the implant of a pace maker.  UGH.!  However, the three of us have also had TT's and my twin sister had a breast reduction.  We are all very happy we made the decision to have the RouxY...despite the experiences we've had to go thru since then.
