3 Months Post-Op
on July 31, 2007 11:51 am
Well I have continued to lose weight over the last couple of months and am PROUD to say that I am down 88 pounds now.  Feeling wonderful, fitting into clothes that I have never been able to wear.  Gone frome a 5X  down to a 1X-2X depending on the item.  Fabulous!!!  Chopped my hair off this past weekend as it was driving me crazy with the falling out in clumps.  Feels and looks much better, not missing it!!!  Just wash and go now!!!  I'm going to put some new pics up soon, Check back for them!!

My Sixth Week Post-Op
on June 11, 2007 10:32 am
I went for my sixth week post-op on June 4th.  Actually it was eight weeks since surgery and I have lost 52 lbs thus far.  My surgeon said that he is impressed and that I am ahead of schedule.  Keep up the great work!

2 Week Post-Op Continued
on April 25, 2007 6:38 pm
My 2 week Post-Op went well.  I was amazed to learn that I lost 30 pounds in two weeks.  I got to move from Full Liquids to Pureed foods one whole week early.  Incision is healing wonderfully and I am returning to work on Monday, April 30th, 2007.  Can't wait.  Walking lots with the nice weather.

I'm Home
on April 13, 2007 4:14 pm
I'm back home and doing well. I ended up having an Open RNY,but knew this just prior to surgery(like 10 minutes before). The reason Dr. Schram decided on open rather than lap was because my bmi was 66 and he wanted me to try and lose some weight first but I only had
roughly 3 weeks from consult to surgery. Also he felt it was safer in my case. Surgery went perfect according to Dr. Schram and my
incision is about 6-8 inches long (breastbone to just above my navel)and healing nicely. I'm very tough, haven't had any pain meds since
early Wednesday morning. When I move about the pain goes from a 5 to a 3 range from between 1-10, 10 being the worst, then just a few deep breaths and the pain is gone. Trying to get the necessary water and proteins in, keeping a record but am finding that I am not
hungry at all.Being persistant though,as I know I need it.  Weight at time of surgery was 364, Monday night was 365 (up due to fluids)back down to 364 Tuesday night and a good drop Wednesday night down to 357. The staff and care I received from Ypsilanti was wonderful, I can't find anything bad to say about it.I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Almost There
on April 6, 2007 8:22 pm

Well, only 2 more days.  I have to be at the Barix Clinic for 9am Monday morning.  Nervousness has really begun to set in.  Sleeping is becoming more difficult the closer I get to Monday.  Thank-you to all the well wishers that have posted to my surgery status page.  Your wishes mean a lot.  I am planning to clean my house Sunday or as I call it, the BIG clean-up!  Hopefully my cats won't make too much of a mess while I am gone.  Usually they are pretty good.  I figure that if I do the BIG clean on Sunday, it will occupy my brain, so that I won't be concentrating too hard on the surgery and stressing myself out.    I leave that for the 6 hour drive down.  LOL  Hubby will have to bring earplugs!!!  I will probably be either of 2 things, a rambling on idiot or completely silent.  Who knows?

PAT's
on April 3, 2007 4:42 pm

Had my pre-admission tests done yesterday and everything is good.  Monday is the day and I can't wait!  I was amazed at how fast and smoothly things went down at Barix.  They would tell you to have a seat, but your butt wouldn't even touch the chair and the next nurse or specialist would be calling for you.  It was a rather tiring day to say the least...LOL.  I am really excited about the surgery, now come later this week and into the weekend, nerves may take over.  I am pretty sure that we will be leaving Sunday evening sometime for Ypsilanti.  I left This past Sunday night at 11pm for PAT's and arrived about 5:30 am (2 hours early), so it was a good trip down.  Hoping for the same this Sunday.  Easter is going to be a bit of a drag though, as I will be on clear fluids and have to take the required laxitive at 10 am...Ugh!!!  The joys, the joys...LOL.

My Story

My story probably isn't so different from others.  When I was a young girl, I was classified as an underweight child.  At the age of 12, puberty hit, my first period came, and everything changed.  I gradually began putting on weight and never stopped.  I was diagnosed with PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome) and along with that came even more weight.  Through high school I was overweight and by the time I graduated I weighed 225lbs for my five foot two and a half inch tall body.  Thirteen years later I weigh 364lbs.  It was time to do something serious.  I tried many diets over the years only to fail, gain more weight, and I have large fertility problems due to my pcos (a family is what I dream of starting).  I started researching gastric bypass, spoke to some friends here in Barrie that were having it done, and fell into a website that brought me to Barix Clinics.  I spoke to a coordinator and was sent forms to have filled out by my family Dr for OHIP for prior approval for out-of-country funding for the surgery.  That was done on January 5th, 2007.  My consult with the Barix Clinic was scheduled for March 14th, 2007 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. When I left for my consult, I still didn’t know if I had my approval or not and the waiting was torturing me and it was beginning to show. My Mother had come along with me for the consult and I received a call from home that morning informing me that my approval had come through.  I was ecstatic.  That brings me up to date…..I had my Consult with Dr. Schram and informed him that I am approved by OHIP, now I am just waiting for a surgery date. Hopefully really soon, as I can’t wait to begin my new lease on life.
