Surgeon Testimonial

Sashidhar Ganta, M.D.
Dr. Ganta was very professional and a good listener. He was aware before we met of the research I had done on the surgery so our meetings were short and to the point. The surgery went well and I feel confident to be in his care. rnrnI was a self pay and he was very careful to find the least expensive places to send me to for pre-op tests & services. rnrnHis office coordinator Joy was very sweet and helpful whenever I had a question or problem. rnrnI would recommend his services to anyone seeking a surgeon in the Austin area, ecspecially someone who does not have insurance coverage. rnrn

Well Peeps, my name is Robin. I've been waddling around on the planet for 33 years now. I am trying to lead 3 beautiful little girls into womanhood. Sometimes I do a monster good job, sometimes I suck the monkey. I am a wife with a superhero hubba-hubby that supports me every moment. He's mad good even when he makes me crazy!

I used to be highly into disco, traveling, polyester and writing ... until my life was complicated by my 4 lovely housemates(my hub & 3 squirelfriends aka daughters). My attention has since been diverted.

I am with the Band. (Doin' a happy LAP dance!) So, if you ever need a hand, shoulder, ear or most any other body part for the purpose of weight loss support please feel free to email me @ CherishedChildren@hotmail.com. Take it of the ease, Friends!

Spring Breaking Up ...
on January 24, 2010 6:38 pm
I'm officially in the process of Spring Breaking Up with Excess Weight, Silly Insecurities, and Excess Skin. I'm seeing some new fellas - Gym Shoes, Self Acceptance and I have a date with The Knife over Spring Break. It's been a long, crazy relationship and I'm SO done, SO ready to wipe those old, boring distractions out of my view and see a new and better future in front of me. I've got just over 2 months to get myself ready for Spring. On your marks, get set ...

Life Stucks!!!
on November 1, 2008 1:49 pm
Not a typo. Right now my life really stucks! Hot cocoa vomit on my favorite yoga pants stucks! Can't keep 10 cheerios in my body stucks! Drooling over a strawberry that I know can't make it to my stomach stucks! Eat a beetle if it would stay inside my body STUCKS! Being too tight really, seriously, officially, completely stucks! NOTHING - not a drop of water(or hot chocolate), a piece of cereal, a dab of yogurt, NOTHING will stay down right now - Stucky life, stucky life, stucky-stuck life! Where is Monday when you need it???

Two Lessons in Life Stucks:

1. Don't get fills on a Friday, ecspecially if you don't have a co-pay for the emergency room and have met $0 of your $1700 deductible.

2. Listen to your damn gut even if your surgeon's office is packed with fidgety, red eyed people that have waited an hour and a half to see him and may jump you and your perfectly filled band on the way out.

Breaking up with the 200's!
on May 1, 2008 12:21 pm
So long 200's! I've got a sexy new friend named 199 and he's got lots of brothers! So I won't be seeing you anymore!!! I've got a whole new crew of numbers to hang with so - adi adi adios!

I know we've had some good times 200's, we've visited a lot of good restaurants, had a lot of late night binges together, but 199 knows how to treat me like a REAL woman. Knows how to take care of me, knows the lines and curves of my body.

Good bye 200's, these are our last words, don't try to come around my house or ring me up on my cellie, let's not make this harder than it needs to be.

If you try to come back  I will literally run (or walk very quickly) away from you to get you off my back...and thighs and stomach and butt and calves and ...well you get the point! My body is in Onderland and there's no turnin' back, you two timin' son of a biscuit!

It's been real,
Robin

"Ohhhh Ohh, half way there. Ohhhh ohh ...
on March 26, 2008 6:18 am
now I've got a prayer! Take my scale and I'll punch you I swear!"

Ok, enough Bon Jovi inspired lyricing. I sing all that to announce that as of today I am officially half way to my goal. Well, I'm a little bit past half way, by some miracle 2 pounds jumped ship last night! But half way! I feel amazing and healthy and proud and greatful. The band really really really rocks it! Do I hear an amen, brotha?

My Story

Surgery Date - 10/10/07 (10cc Band)
Starting Weight - 284 lbs
Starting Size - 26/28

My Lap Band story was years in the making. Years of losing and then gaining. I'm monster good at losing weight, but even better at gaining. The camel-breaking straw was when I lost 90lbs and gained back 95lbs all in an 18 month period. At that point the light bulb went off and I realized with blazing clarity that my weight problem went beyond self-control and life style and had some kind of deeper medical problem. Maybe it was DNA, maybe it was a wiring issue, whatever the problem was I COULD NOT fix it on my own. I made up my mind that I would seek medical help. I did the research and decided that Lap Band was the most obvious "treatment" for me.

Reasons for choosing Lap Band:
Least invasive (laproscopic - only 5 small incisions)
Least expensive ($12,500 - surgeon, hospital, anesthesiologist)*
Adjustable - when lose weight and want to eat more normally can unfill, when need to lose weight can fill
No over night hospital stay
Lifelong
No re-routing organs
No mal-absorption

*I was a self-pay and had NO insurance.

10/10/07 - My surgery went great. I had a small hernia that needed to be repaired. I was under for about 1 hour and went home the same day. I arrived at the hospital at 7:30am and was home by 5:00pm. I was in pain the first day. Uncomfortable the next few days. Slow for a week. And back to normal about 10 days out. The WORST part of the surgery was the GAS! Burping and burping and burping for days! Not just little bubbles either, painful, full on BELCHES. Grown man, truck driver, lumber jack burps! I still get more gas then I ever used to but it's a little more feminine, lunch lady now.

11/1/07 - Losing weight but now that the swelling has gone down I'm not feeling any restriction. I can eat anything I want in almost the same amounts that I used to.

12/12/07 - My first fill. 3cc. Was not painful, fast and easy. Did not make me feel restriction. Still able to eat just about anything in any amount.

1/12/08 - My second fill. Up to 4cc. Felt little bit of difference the first week. Not feeling anything 1 1/2 weeks out.

2/7/08 - My third fill. Up to 5cc. Oh, this is Restriction! Definitely finally feel a difference. Can eat very little, get full fast, HAVE to chew a lot and eat slowly or I throw-up, salivate like a St. Bernard or burp up chunks. MMMMMMM! Welcome to the Band!

3/20/08 - My fourth fill. Up to 5.5cc. Ahhh restriction is back! I lost a really good amount of weight in the 6 weeks since my last fill and needed to get a little bit more added. Apparently as you lose weight the fat pad around your stomach shrinks and so the band loosens up. Apparently I lost some fat pad! This fill is working great.

4/24/08 - My fifth fill. Up to 6cc. Ohhh yeah, tighten up! I actually slimed on Carnation Instant Breakfast! I'm sure it will loosen up in a few days but whew Baby Band-danny is giving Sister Stomach some big ole squeezes!

7/11/08 - My 6th fill. Up to 6.3cc. Holy too tight Batman!

7/31/08 - My first unfill (boohoo) -.8ccs. Down to 5.5cc. I'm scared to be without good restriction but after being too tight for 3 weeks my poor little band needs some rest and my body needs some FOOD!

How I Work the Band

Exercise:
am - 30 minutes walking (M-F)
pm - 45-60 minutes dancing, weights, walking or a combo of the three (M-Th)

Food:
I try to eat like I'm NOT on a diet. I try to make healthy choices in small portions, eat a decent amount of protein, and always eat a little dessert. I drink lots of water (ecspecially at night so I don't munch).

I DON'T eat/drink alcohol, carbonated beverages, red meat/pork. (Everything but the carbonated beverages are of my own choice, NOT a part of the typical Band Diet.)

I'm still a work in progress. I'd like to go from 284lbs down to 149lbs. That's a total of 135 lbs. Please click on Health Tracker to see how I'm doing.
