Surgeon Testimonial

Michael A. Snyder MD
Dr. Snyder is a great person to know. He is very personable to all of his patients and is very approachable. He is very knowledgeable about weight loss surgery and doesn't hesitate to answer questions that you have. If he doesn't have an answer (unrelated to the medical part of the surgery), he has surrounded himself with great staff in the office, who do know the answers (example- insurance claims). Dr. Snyder talks kind of fast but you can just tell that he is excited about his line of work and how he can help others. He stresses the importance of working with you and the patient responsibility of being successful. He is also very real about risks that could happen as with all surgeries. I would rate Dr. Snyder high because he takes his time during your consult with him and really tries to get to know each person. He is readily available to speak to patients via phone (home or cell) and via email if necessary. He is one that really does take care of patients and is committed to patients after surgery as well.

Update
Hi OH Family-
No major updates, just want to be in touch.  It's a New Year and I feel so good about it.  Happy New Year to all of you.  Quick update from me, down 53lbs and I am just over 4 months out.  I have only had the 1 fill and think that is good (3cc in a 10cc band).  Reality has set in because I am down from a 20 to a 16 with a little room in those.  That feels so good, but it is hard for me to get use to buying smaller clothes.  I actually can walk past Lane Bryant and not go in because nothing fits there!  I can shop in stores that I haven't been in for years and that feels good, but is a little scary because I have to do a double take sometimes to know that it is for real!
My next doctor appointment is Feb for my 6 month check up.  All went well at the 3 month check up.  Cholesterol is much better, blood pressure is under control (still on meds...hoping to be off maybe by April when I have my annual exam).  My Vitamin D was a little low so I am taking some supplements of that.  Other than that I am good.  Lots of friends are now considering WLS and although it is not for everyone, it works for me!  Best wishes to all who are waiting or learning about surgery options.

Update

Hi OH Family-
It seems I am so busy that I forget to log on every now and then.  My latest update is that I am still doing well.  I am just slightly under 4 months out and have to say that I am so pleased with my decision.  I am down from 247 to 198 and I can't explain how happy I am.  Some part of me is in disbelief and the other part of me has been hit by reality and the need to buy more new clothes...I simply cannot fit my 20's or 18's anymore.  Today I got up the courage to try on a 16 and it fit!  My wedding dress over 14 years ago was a 16.  I haven't pulled the dress out to try it on, nor will I, but I can't believe it.

Happy Holidays to everyone and I hope those that are still waiting can be patient because your day will come

3 Month's Out
on November 14, 2008 6:21 am
Hello OH Friends!
I went in yesterday for my 3 month check up.  Had to do the blood work about 7 days in advance.  The check up went fine.  I didn't need another fill (so I have only had the initial fill to 3cc) and my cholesterol is much better in addition to all of the other stuff (Hblood pressure, apnea).  I was a little concerned about iron levels because I have never been so freaking cold in my life.    It seems only at night that my body temperature drops so much.  My loving hubby bought a heated mattress pad, which has been a life saver!  The doc said my iron levels were perfectly fine and said that things would level out over time and that the cold was just due to rapid weight loss.

Other than that things are going well.  I am down 36 or so pounds, but it fluctuates a little here and there.

I can't believe it has been 3 months already!  My clothes are WAY too big, so I have had to buy some smaller things which is a good thing.  Was in a tight 20 but now in some 16's and still some 18's.  Shirts, I can wear a Large now or some XL but not in plus sizes anymore on top.  Feeling good, looking good.

That's it for me.  Until next time....

My Story

Growing up, I was a very fit person  .  It wasn't until I got out of college that I noticed my weight becoming an issue for me.  It took years for me to get to where I am today, but I can remember just prior to my marriage in 1994, I had to buy a larger wedding dress (I was a size 12 at the time and had to buy a 16).  The sales lady told me that all wedding dresses are larger, so I fell for it and got the 16

Since that time, I have had 1 child and during that pregnancy, I gained a whopping 60lbs  .  I never lost any of the weight that I gained and have continually gained over the years.  I have tried diet after diet and have spent a lot of money on weight loss programs, all have failed.

I have a friend who got lap-band about 2 years ago and watching her transform has been great!  I finally took the risk to attend a seminar to see what it was all about.  My process time has been very short so far.  I attended in May 2008, completed all of my pre-op requirements and was approved by insurance in late July.  My surgery is scheduled for mid August!  I am exicited but a little scared now that the situation is more "real."

I am looking forward to  the weight loss but more importantly an improvement in my apnea, blood pressure and overall life enjoyment.

Welcome to my journey.  It has taken me a long time to get to where I am and with a lot of self-reflection and need for change, I have decided that WLS is for me.  I am having the LapBand on 8/14/2008!
