My name is Debbie.  I am 41 years old and a single mom of two boys.  Tanner 17, Chad 14.  Type 1 diabetic for 30 years and really hope that I can get off my insulin pump and most of my scripts. Hoping that this surgery will help me with my health and make me look good

9 Mos Update, Weighed in at 153
on July 14, 2011 7:29 am
I can hardly believe it has been 9 mos since I had my surgery.  I am feeling so good about it.  I love that I feel better and have really increased my energy level.  My goal was to feel better and to improve my health.  And so far so good.

My surgeon  asst. is very pleased with my progress.  Its funny because I think my first follow up and now my 9 mos follow up, my status was the same.  (not one complaint or problem)  He walks in and says it is good to hear that you are not sure why you are here today :)  My first visit he said (you are boring :)

I asked what he thought I should have as a goal weight and he said that a normal BMI of 25  for me would put me at 140 lbs.  I had been considering 145 (BMI would be 26) he said it really didnt matter.  I think I shall strive for the 140 or maybe even 135 to give me some room for weight fluctuations.  So, i need to kick my butt in gear.  He said my calories at 1200 were good, but that I do need to get more exercise.  And to help speed up my loss to maybe also cut the calories.  So I really need to start walking more and maybe dust off my exercise cd and start using it.  Sigh!!!!

I will do this.  I can do this.

Also asked about me drinking fully loaded coffee(with caffeine) and he said it wouldnt hurt if I kept it at 2 a day.  I told him I really didnt want to start the habit again, but really wanted to make sure that it wouldnt hurt me.  They just worry about coffee if you have ulcers, and thank goodness I dont. (I am currently on vacation with my friend Sandi, and have been having coffee everymorning UMMM)  But, I think when I get home I will wean my self off and go back to drinking my decaff tea's. Atleast with the teas, i dont put cream in them :).

Oh and last but not least.  My PCP has been having test my thyroid and she has dropped my Levothyroxine twice now.  I started at 125 and now am at 88.  Wow, is that great or what.  Maybe, fingers crossed, I will be soon off.  Yeah, that would for sure put me at goal of being off all my meds, except I will be on insulin for life.

Swing the lizards, cross your fingers and wish me luck to get to 140 lbs before 10/28/11.

7 mos update
on May 25, 2011 8:18 pm
I am 7 mos out and feeling pretty good.  Very happy that I made the decision to have surgery and followed through with it.  I am a very slow loser but I shouldnt complain.  I have had many compliments and comments that I am going to blow away.  Hah.  The funny thing is, I always thought that a size 14 was a perfect size for me.  And, now I am like, I think a size 10 or maybe another 30 lbs would be better.  Today I have lost 68 lbs.  In a Size M or L, just depending on the clothes.  Blows me away that I can wear these sizes.
My labs came back ok, I guess.  My iron seems to be low, my protein level is low, but nothing majoy according to my PCP.  She did retest my thyroid and it is a little low, going to lower my thyroid.  Maybe that is why I have been so tired the last few day.  Last Sunday, I went to bed at 7:30pm.  It was crazy, still light outside and I just had to go to bed.

Have been having a busy couple of weeks.  My son Tanner graduated high school last week.  Oh yeah!!!!  And my youngest was promoted last night.  Gee do I feel old.  I will be facing the empty nest syndrome soon.  I am hoping to start traveling when they both leave.  Maybe some cruises and etc.  Looking for some girlfriends who want to be my traveling companions.

3 mos and down 47 lbs
on February 3, 2011 8:15 pm
I got my 3 mos labs back and very excited that my A1C was 6.1.  Oh yeah that is exciting.  My Dr was very happy.  I sure hope that I can keep those levels good. My Vit B was high, D level was in the norm,
Today I had a eye exam and Dr said that my eyes are great, last visit I had some blood clots and they are completly gone.  She said that I am keeping my diabetes under good control.  Gee I love good reports.  Those havent happened in many years.

And today I bought some new clothes and I could wear a............size large.  OMG is that exciting.  I looked at them thinking there was no way that would fit and they did.  I just love it.

Started doing Zumba
on January 14, 2011 6:38 pm
Doing Zumba at my friend Kelly's house 3 nights a week.  Looking forward to it and having fun.  There are about 6 of us and already have some flaky people.  But ok with me, less is best.  Andddddd i can bend over now to tie my shoes.  Haven't done that in a long while.  Hope the exercising helps my weight loss.  I seem to be really slow at losing the weight.  And I haven't even cheated on my eating.

2 Month follow-up
on January 6, 2011 7:33 pm
My appointment went well.  I am down 40 lbs.  Dr said doing good.  Still no complications :) and not complaining.  I was telling the Doc that my body feels achy and sometimes even putting on my bra seemed to make me feel old and achey.  He asked how many calories am I eating and I said somewhere in the 800's or less.  Said i need to eat more, around 800 to 1000, otherwise my body will not do well.  I was also surprised that he thought I should be able to get all my protein in without drinking protein drinks.  Yikes.  I do not know how I will manage that with such small serving sizes etc.  He told me to increase my servings and see how well my stomach handles it.  Gave me labs to do at 3 mos.  I will be interested to see how my vitamin levels are.
My blood sugar levels have really leveled off.  Yeah.  No more visits by the paramedics.  Hope to keep that up.
My blood pressure was 104/59. Pretty awesome as I havent taken my lisinopril since day of surgery.
I also have been rarely using my c-pap since surgery as well.  Hopefully at my next visit I can be removed from it.
All for now.  Loving the new me and moving on to better health.
