Surgeon TestimonialMiguel R. Silva, M.D.Dr. Miguel Silva is so welcoming and makes you feel \"normal\". He answers every question in a personal manner, un-generic, and seems to have an infinite amount of time for his patients. You never feel rushed when you're in his office, and the number of awards and certificates on his walls are some what reassuring. He is very confident when he explains the wls procedures which makes me feel safe.

Found support.... on August 26, 2007 6:49 pm
.......In my new Victoria's Secret bra!!!!!! I haven't worn a sexy VS bra for about 10 years. I use to be a 36C for most of my late teens, early 20's, but then things got out of control landing me in a 42DDD! Not pretty, nor comfortable.I noticed that my bras looked, and felt, deflated, so I decided to get remeasured. I had been eyeing that new "It" bra full coverage by VS. I'm a sucker for tv. ads, and I knew I had to get that polka dotted Body by Victoria bra. So I got measured by the salesperson and found out that I'm now a 38DD. My girls look sexy and happy in my polka dot push-up wonder! To bad they're too expensive ($48.), and that my size will continue to shift for a while, otherwise I would've bought a few of them.

Day 15 / post op on August 15, 2007 1:58 pm
Well it's been two weeks today, here's my progress:
1. Face is slimming down 2. Wedding band fits once again ( watch and other rings fit loose) 3. Blood pressure has been reading 117/81 (might cross it out of my goal list) 4. Wearing some size 16 bottoms that I had not worn for 2 yrs. 5. My size 18 and 20's look very unshapely on me. 6. Bought some size XL stretch tops from The Gap and Banana Republic 7. Stopped snoring ( DH is happy) And finally, 8. Starting to feel human again!!!

8 Days post-op, things look better on August 9, 2007 6:51 pm
Well the days have rolled by.The first few horrendous, the next few much better, and today great! I am finally starting to feel "normal", no more propped pillows or pajamas all day. I finally opened the kitchen and once again the family is fed. It doesn't bother me to cook for them, actually it's easier than to see (and smell) all the take out. My husband was worried that my cooking "mojo" would be gone, but was very content that it was right there where I'd left it 9 days ago. Family and friends have been really supportive and have made these days more tolerable.
Today was my first post-op appointment, all went well. The highlights were: First the nurse asked me to lay down so she could check my incisions. She was very shocked to see my agility to lay down w/o assistance and my incisions looked great. She looked at my chart and asked:" You had surgery last Wed.?" Then my doctor checked me and said "wow, you look great! I can't believe how quickly you recovered". He even said that my face looked so much thinner and that he was so happy I made this decision. I had to mention that the jeans I was wearing I had not worn in two years! Then he turned around and told the nurse " I'm honestly thinking of doing VSGs only, have you ever seen RnY patients recover this quickly?"My weight loss #'s according to his office; Before 208 After 191. Not too shabby huh?

Post op experience, the nitty gritty!! on August 4, 2007 3:01 pm
Okay, so you're ready for surgery?? This isn't for wimps!! Okay, I know a little too drastic! I think the newbies just logged out. Anyway here it goes........ I arrived at the hospital at 7 am and was admitted, I did the last minute blood works within 1/2 an hour. I thought after that I would be whisked away to my hospital room and I would have some time to adjust, or chicken out, no chance!! I was automatically ushered to the ER operating area and was asked to change into the ever so lovely (being sarcastic) gown. Before I knew it I was on the gurney ready for surgery. All of the people involved in the surgery consulted with me as I laid there in my gown. They explained the stuff I should know prior to the operation. I was then rolled into the OR, everyone was happy to see me, i guess I was client #1 that day, or they love slicing and dicing fat girls. I woke up and was informed that everything went well, then I dozed off and That's pretty much how day 1 went. I kept dozing off all day and when I sort of woke up my throat would feel so sore that I couldn't wait to dose off again. Day 2: No more dozing off, with all the poking and prodding it was impossible to sleep, that's when I realized I was in pain. I used the handy morphine dispenser but soon realized that it made me throw up so that was that. The nurses were wonderful and very compassionate. They tried to keep me comfortable and tried to cheer me up.by the way, they were guy nurses. I was lonely because my DH had to take care of our 6 yr old so I didn't get to see anyone until later in the day. I wondered how people do this on their own, I totally am lost without support. After visiting hours were over I started to feel very sad. I was in pain and I couldn't find relieve. I sobbed but it hurt so much to even cry. Once I got started though I couldn't stop and the nurses couldn't console me but told me things would get better. My symptoms were: incision pain, they felt like a huge paper cut or hang nail, you know, hot throbbing pain. My back felt like my lungs and kidneys were fighting for space, I could barely breathe. My new stomach kept twitching (gross!!!) and things inside were trying to settle into their new found space. I was so sleepy after my cry but couldn't settle into a comfortable position, so I cried again and wondered why the heck I did this to myself? I wasn't a sad fat person, so did I do this out of vanity? I thought it would help control my blood pressure but it was now 210/101. Not good!! Day 3: Felt just as bad as day #2, but was ready to be home. I was able to drink 4oz of fluid an hour so I was discharged. At home I started to cough and let me tell you, it wasn't fun!! started to have post nasal drip and it was driving me crazy! Then I drank my meds and one didn't dissolve correctly and it's still lodged in my throat. I gag every time I cough because my throat is trying to expel it but it won't budge, darn pill!!! Day 4: Finally ventured outside and was quite a sight! people felt my pain when they saw me walk. I walked a bit and tried to gather some better items for the liquid phase. I have to admit that I am hungry, broths and jello are not cutting it! I'm begging for phase two to start, tuna and yogurt sound delicious right about now. This surgery is real serious, sometimes we get blinded by other's success and fooled into thinking that it's just routine surgery. This is major stuff. There is pain, complications, and sometimes unrealistic expectations. Buyers, do your research well! And who ever says this is the easy way out, I'd love for them to sample a little bit of my pain. I hope that In a few weeks I'll say it was worth it, but as of now if I had a magic pill to take me back in time to pre surgery I would swallow the whole bottle!!!
