6 months post op
on January 6, 2013 8:18 pm

I'll be 6 months post-op this coming Wednesday. When I look back at my first post ( the night before surgery), I really had no clue what I was in for. Nothing went as planned. I was so sick for the first 9-10 weeks. I had a bowel obstruction. Nothing tasted good. I hated all my protein powders. I hated water. It just sucked. Now I feel fantastic but still have work to do. I still have a few bad habits I need to tame and 29 pounds to go.

What a ride!

I am still trying to get used to my new life.  It's hard.  Although my menu options are slowing getting bigger, I still struggle with getting in enough protein and fluids.  I hate protein shakes and will not drink them.  I never knew how hard this would be.  I have 2 friends who had a RNY in the past and are great supporters.  I just try to take it one day at a time.

The day before surgery
on July 8, 2012 9:48 pm
Light breakfast, full liquid lunch, then clear liquids until midnight.  Surgery at 2:30 pm on 7/9.
I pretty much packed.  Tomorrow's main task is shaving...which is like an Olympic event around here.

I am packing my Kindle, iPhone and charger, laptop and charger, toothbrush, deodorant, chapstick.  Thanks pretty much it.  I'm wearing home the same clothes I came in with.  Maybe my own pillow.

Tonight I had my husband take my "before pics".  I am going to wear the same outfit each month for updates.  I also did my measurements.  Yikes!

I have plenty of protein powder, SF syrups, supplements, shakers, PB2, etc.  I think I'm ready for when I return home except Lovonox and B1/B12.  Will send hubs to pick those up.

Gonna sleep in my recliner the first few days and chill.  During the day I plan to walk on my treadmill or outside if it's not 1000 degrees out.

Gonna make friends with my pouch!

My Story

Hello everyone!  A little about myself, I am 44 years old, married, and the mother of 3 amazing sons.  My 21 year old is an Airman First Class in the USAF.  My middle son is 9 and in 3rd grade.  My husband and I also just had a baby in November 2010.  Yes, we are also the proud parents of an 18 month old.  We kicked around the idea of having another child and never thought it would really happen.  It did and we couldn't be happier!

I have a Master's in Nursing and have worked at the same company for (gulp) 22 years!  I also teach at a local university part-time (one class).  We love to camp (in a camper, not tents!) and my husband and I both ride Harleys in our spare time.  I just got my license in 2009 so I am still a scared newbie.

My weigh loss story is a little different.  I've always been thin but have really put on some weight over the past 2.5 years, esp after my baby was born and I was finishing grad school.  I'm excited about WLS and feel it is a tool I can use my entire life to get back to the "old me".  I need to break bad eating habits and relearn the good ones.  Currently my BMI is 38 and I would love to lose about 85 pounds.

Good luck to all who read this.  This is a life-changing event and I wish you all the happiness!

Jill
