a little tear...
on August 9, 2011 3:46 pm

As I read the blogs of others I get a little tear in my eye.  My brother in law (RIP) passed away earlier this year at the very young age of 33.  He was a wonderful, loving, talented, handsome guy... who weighed roughly 1000 lbs.  His body overtook him and ended his life.  I so wish we could have helped him get the medical help he desparately needed.  As a family we worried and researched options... there was no way to get him out of his house.  He lived far away and every time we would visit he was considerably larger.  Unfortunately he lived in a very small town, far away from the assistance he needed.  On our last visit with him in October of last year he was permanently in bed.  We went to his room and laughed and talked with him and my son played video games with him and it was just "normal" except he couldn't move.  When we cam home from that trip I started researching surgery for myself.  We knew that the end was inevitable for dear brother.  It makes me very sad for the loss of him in our lives.  He and my husband were very close and talked almost everyday.  It breaks my heart for him.  I truly wish that there was something we could have done.

I love to read about others success.  It just brings a tear to my eye that there are so many that don't succeed.

Takin Care of Bizzness.
on August 9, 2011 12:44 pm
So I have a final appt with my Nut on Thurs.  She is supposed to sign me off on my 6 month diet.  We had a little confusion and I was told I had credit for 1 month of a shake diet I did 2 years ago, so I would only need 5 months with the Nut to equal a 6 month doc supervised diet.  Well I met with my surgeon last Friday and he said that it would be best to see the Nut one more time and have that as my 6th month.  We don't want anything to confuse the insurance company, ya know?  Soooo... I make my final Nut appt and I have gained like 8 lbs since I stopped seeing her in June.  Yuck.  So I am starving myself until Thurs to see if I can take a few of these bad boys off.  **crossing fingers**  The Nut is kind of a no nonsense chick, so hopefully she won't give me too much grief over the whole situation and just sign the papers.

Sooo... as for the good news...  I have an appt on Monday with the PA for my Doc to get the EKG, Chest X-ray and Blood Tests done.  On the 22nd I have my Psych Eval.  THEN WE SUBMIT FOR APPROVAL!!!

I am really excited and this just can't come fast enough for me.  I have a 5 year old son and I am sick of being his Fat Mama.  I hope as he grows up his memories of me at this size fade...

So I went to the official cosultation today with Dr. Mueller...  I have to get my psych eval done (doing thast Aug 22nd), and I have to see my doc and get a bunch of tests done and some papers signed... AND THATS IT!!  Then we submit to the insurance company for approval!!   I am excited!   This can't happen soon enough - I got weighed today and I have gained like 8lbs in the last month and 1/2.  I am outta control.  I feel like the drug addict who gets high before rehab!  only its me - stufffing my face before surgery.  I need to put myself in check.  RIGHT NOW.

My Story

I am 35 years old and have had a weight problem for as long as I can remember.  Of course many of us have the same story - I thought I was fat when in retrospect I wasn't really and how I would love to go back in time with the perspective I have now - yada yada...

Well here I am and have grown to the all time high of 350 lbs., I am 6 feet tall - so basically just a very large person.  I am the Mother of an amazing almost 5 year old boy and really want to get my weight under control so that I can do all the fun things in life with my son.  I am a very hands on Mom and love to play and run around with him.  Unfortunately, that is pretty difficult at this size and it breaks my heart when we are at the park and he wants me to go down the slide of ride the swings with him.  These are things I cannot do at this size.  I want to be a healthy Mom.  When he grows up I want him to look back on his childhood and remember all the things we did together, not remember all the things I couldn't do.

I am currently doing a 6 month diet with a nutritionist in preparation for RNY surgery this fall.  I would love to get to know some people who are going thru similar things and also to get to know people who have had great success.
